This might just be me, but I honestly think Maki decided to be friendly toward Shuichi before she decided to do the same with Kaito. She always teases Shuichi about things he “Should be able to figure out” as a detective regardless of whether or not it’s something he could actually know. It just seems she moves from “tolerating” Shuichi to actually not minding him being around quicker than she does with Kaito
