這首樂曲是根據《塞上曲》改編而成；音樂內容是描寫王昭君對故國的思念，表達哀怨悲切之情；匈奴單于通婚的王昭君身處北方大漠，每見雁群南飛時便想起南方，百無聊賴中彈奏《塞上曲》以訴思鄉之苦。樂曲以大笛演奏，音樂旋律緩和而細膩。
