    Hey great video. You should Armadillidium klugii Clown Isopods. They are a very dry loving species. You’ll just have to have a moist spot in the tank. Seems like you already have that covered. They are very beautiful, but kinda expensive. I think it’s worth it tho because it’s kinda hard to find dry loving isopods. I use them in my Leopard Geckos and Cornsnake tanks and I also breed them in a cute planted cricket keeper that I set up. Just thought I would share that.

      Oh thank you so much! I'll get on that. I was looking for a good one to put in, but all the articles I was reading were very broad about isopods in general. You're awesome, thanks! 🥰

    glad to hear your beardie also goes in and out of brumation. My almost 4 year old (Sasha) will hide in her...hide for maybe a week at a time (but always jumps at the sight of a cricket).She'll then be out and active for maybe a week, then back to her hide.

    I also stumbled upon using beetles in my Leo's semi-bioactive enclosure (though some of the initial batch of isos are still alive), but it wasn't long before spiders somehow wandered into the enclosure and began to predate the beetles. Which led to more spiders, less beetles, etc. Its a little disconcerting to discover a "floating" beetle, only to quickly realize it isn't floating and it really isn't a beetle anymore. At least, not in the alive-sense. 🙄

I was wondering, I'm not gonna do a bioactive tank, but I do want to do substrate (he's on carpet right now) Childs play sand and top soil, would that be enough or would I have to get more additives? Like the clay and eco soil. Also, he refuses to get the veggies I buy for him (freeze dried from PetSmart) I do plan on trying to use more fresh. I've tried fresh with him before and he still didn't eat it. He likes his protein but that's only on occasion. Any tips on getting him to eat more?

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on who you ask, and how new the care information is. Calcium sand is definitely advised against, but play-sand mixtures are perfectly ok! A few years ago, everyone advised against all loose substrates, because of impaction risks, but we've found that it isn't much of a risk if the environment is correct. Before this tank, though my bearded dragon was on tile for the previous 6 years of her life.

      Also what type of thermometer to do you use?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 ปีที่แล้ว

      A deep layer of a soil/sand/clay mix is ideal for bearded dragons , burrowing enrichment is extremely beneficial for them. Impaction is caused by improper husbandry, not loose substrate. As long as their husbandry is correct (temps/heating, hydration, etc.) a healthy animal will be able to pass loose sub no problem. They live on loose terrain in the wild, they’ve evolved to be able to handle it.
      Regarding thermometers, make sure you have a temperature gun for measuring surface temps (such as the basking spot) and a digital thermometer for measuring ambient temps.

      Definitely! Going from a 4ft to 6ft tank, I completely spaced the fact that I also needed a longer UVB light. It'll be upgraded! 😊

    Hey been seeing your videos and was curious if you could help me out with my bearded dragon sparky. He recently started being very aggressive and started having seizures and i cant find any emergency vets around me to get help please reach back out if you think there is any way you can help my little friend sparky.
