They keep remaking resident evils over and over, and release monster hunter updates left and right, but I just wish they cared for the awesome games they used to make in the late PSX era.
This game deserves a remake. Strong themes, and even while the characters are not as fleshed out as I would have like (PS1 era didn't leave much room for this though), there certainly is potential to fine tune this game from an all-time-classic into a modern masterpiece.

I just love how nearly every aspect and themes mentioned in this game can be applied to our society. Many deep questions and actions to discuss.. loved the progression through this game at the various messages it provided

She did what she believed in, a cause thats not neccessary bad within itself, but she willingly accepted the collateral damage she caused, even though she mourned it. And when faces with defeat, after doing what she thought was the right thing to do, no matter how painful this was, she is desperately asking for answers. Imho a very well written character.
One of the greatest games ever made. Us who were lucky enough to be able to sit down and play this game from start to finish when it was released were given a treasure. When that seed sprouds at the end it hits me in the heart every time because Breath of Fire III is ultimately a story about conquering your own fears and saving the world by saving yourself and your family.

Notice how she never actually explains WHY its the Brood's fault that the world is dying. Just that it *is* their fault. She tries to blame it on the war, a war she helped fuel with the Guardians, a war designed to specifically eradicate the dragons. She may be referring to the dragons being too powerful as a whole, almost like they're living nuclear weapons, but she passes all of the problems onto the Brood instead of trying to find actual solutions or blaming it on people's nature to war. Ultimately, its really all about control for Myria/Tyr, always has been. She tried using the Dark Dragons as her pawns to wipe out any undesirables before and that failed, so she made her own race and even they turned on her.
cannonically dethevan is split from her. i think he was her evil desires, and this is her without them, but extreme good is often no better than pure evil, and as the brood has foiled her at least twice before, she was afraid.
I think her theme in this game is pretty clear: She is an overprotective mother. She does not have any ill will, she is simply desperate to protect what she loves and tries to eradicate any possible danger.
We shouldn't take Myria words to heart, she knows that the Brood could take her on and defeat her. Let's not forget, this is Myria's third attempt to mess up the world. BoF1 she started a war while she watched. Bof2 Her spawn, Deathevan, caused trouble around the world, to the point Ryu 2 mother had to take action and seal herself and await the day that Ryu was strong enough to fight Deathevan and destroy him. While Myria wasn't there, she left her spawn behind, so she's indirev responsible. Before Bof3 she successfully manages to get the Brood near extinct and stagnating humanity's progress. Let's not forget what happened to Teepo...

Don't feel too bad. I finally beat Final Fantasy 8 and my favorite game Xenogears like 2 years ago lol. and both of those games came out in 1998. I beat Breath of Fire 3 back after it's release in 1996 when I was 11 years old. well me and a friend completed it together.
I first played it on PSP, but think I may have only beaten it once, due to the vinegar minigame. It is still a very fun game to just pick up and play randomly, got to love the kick ass spells like Magic Ball and Maindo Soodo!!!
I only ever played BOF4, so never saw any of this. But, I've got some thoughts: I LOVE the character design of the main boss and her motivations, too. She's so creepy and awesome in her battle form. I understand where she's coming from in a way. It makes me think of the fight between God and Lucifer. We say that Lucifer is bad, but Lucifer is the original rebel. Instead of doing what he's told, he dares to think he can know better than God... Just like these guys. It's a really interesting and creepy concept. Most modern humans would never go against a god... But most humans also don't know anything about the world, let alone what is beyond it...
In trying to protect them, she forgot what made Life important...being alive is the struggle against entropy. By taking away the struggle, life becomes meaningless...so was Ryu ("Matt") _right_ in fighting against Myria?

This is the one game I haven't gotten the bad ending on. If Ryu made that choice I'm sure he wouldn't be able to live with himself. But it is also very much what Peco has said. That was not a worthy existence in the first place.

Myria is the one who put the Dragons at odds, with "wishes" with lies. Hence Teepo, and Ray, and to some extent... Zog. And when Momo suggests that one day, "We might be able to build our own machines." Myria shakes her head. She can't have that. These stories are about choice and force. And you're always able to choose a good, or a bad ending. That's why I love 'em. That freaked me out a little bit... she calls Ryu "Matt" Lol, well, it's a common name. That aside, consider the desert; it's green and lush on the other side of the world, why? Not because Myria wills it as she says, but because Yggdrasil is on the other side keeping watch. She has rotted the world around her, just as her previous forms, her seeds of evil. And the Dragons who followed after her to the other side of the ocean have forgotten their purpose, or rather, they have lost the faith, they doubt themselves. Which is why Ryu appears to set things straight. Damn I love this game. The goddess is a communist. Better dead than red. I mean, look at her, she's a devil, a serpent with angel wings, and look at her moves! Holocaust? Her belly bursts with wires of control... Myria is the cause of the desert. Change my mind. (The ending, Yggdrasil rises from the desert...)
This ending kinda flies in the face of the first 2 games. This is suppose to be the same Tyr/Myria who turned into that chest burster thing in the first game? The same Myria who left behind a "seed of evil" that turned people into demons and tried to destroy the world? Now suddenly she's sweet and caring? I'm callin bull shit. She even turns into an eldritch horror in the final battle.

Its basically asking us whether we are willing to tolerate evil for the greater good. I had nightmare fighting against this boss. I even had a calculator by my side to calculate how much is her hp. It really seemed endless

@@dansmith1661 iirc without her the world will be ruined? Although she did commit genocide against the brood and kept humanity in a cage, it was for the sake of humanity survival. Its basically asking us whether we are willing to tolerate evil for the greater good. We were given a choice to either give up our power and let things remain the status quo where humanity continue to prosper OR potentially doomed the world for the sake of getting our revenge and our freedom back.

Myria was afraid of that power since life could go on without her. Peco then planted himself in the desert to reclaim the land at the end.
