I still like a lot the ABWH album, which I bought in the LP format in late 1989, in the cassette format in 1991, and in the CD format in 2002. I also like this live version of "Brother of Mine" a lot. I listened to this live version for the first time in october 1990 during a FM radio broadcast of parts of the Shoreline Amphitheatre concert. I recorded the broadcast of 60 minutes in a cassette. In 1997, I bought the live 2 CD set called "An Evening of Yes Music Plus". ABWH was a very good band.
I was blessed to see ABWH in Sacramento CA in September 1989 at the CA State Fair. It was general admission; we were standing front stage. A special experience.
Sadly I didn’t give this record a chance back when it came out. I’m almost 55 and this could possibly be my favorite YES album. Love this song! Awesome job Bill and the rest of the band. Thank you for giving the world such great music. I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.
Especially love this and "Order Of The Universe" from this time. I can only imagine what getting through that transition at 6:20 was like in rehearsals.
This Whole Album They Did Together Was Amazingly Beautiful And Perfect 👍! In my Own Personal Opinion Jon Anderson Was At The Pinnacle With His Own Vocals In His Career While Singing On This Particular Album but He Still Has A Good Voice after All These Decades Of Singing !
"You can see what you want to see..." ABWH has always held a special place in my heart. It was one of the first Yes albums I got into in the early 90s along with Union, Fragile, 90125, and The Yes Album. To me, it's one of the more unique Yes albums b/c Anderson's lyrics on songs like "Themes," "Order of the Universe" and "Brother of Mine" really seem to be a defense/explanation of Yes music that wasn't really fully explored on prior Yes albums, and never touched upon all that much on later ones. "Themes" rebels against the financial pressures put on Yes by others, "Order of the Universe" talks about the artistic pressure put upon the band and how that can thwart growth, and then while "Brother of Mine" certainly talks about connectivity with all mankind, I think it also speaks to the members of Yes when they first started out and how ambitious they were with their dreams. It can be read as a celebration of Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe getting back together (long lost brothers), it can also be read as an appeal to Squire (another "brother"...nothing can come between us). But what dawned on me just recently--even after listening to this great song hundreds of times in the past 30+ years-- the final lines of "you can see what you want to see" kind of nicely sums up Yes. To really get the spirit of what they're all about, you have to be open to the adventure you're about to go on. And considering the amount of criticism the band received over the years for that very ambition they put out there, it's a nice kind of brush off to that criticism ("whatever...you can see what you want to see...."). Anyway, I know as Bruford pointed out, this spirit lasted for about 10 minutes before Union came about, but it's arguably the most interesting album from Anderson in terms of an honest insight into his creative headspace.
You are part of my two favorite bands. King crimson and yes are the bands of my life since I was 15. Now I have almost 40 and I still find the passion grace and fire that makes me believe in art
This song.....spring...1990....driving to work, (when the radio actually played), i remember so well. Windows down, my Awesome 89 VW Fox....lol...well i loved it. 7:32 am... The smell, feel of the air....where i actually was when Jon begins singing. OMG.....WHAT IS THIS?! Was a prog fan, and knew Yes, but this....... Oh my.... I was....gave chills.. I was hooked....and still. Cheers to all YES, Jon ,ABWH Fans.
Thanks Bill!!!! woouuu What music Beautifull more, really Beautifulll, like me much!!! Thanks For ever!!!!! Daniel Claudio Miller Music Single From of Buenos Aires Argentine!!!
Saw this amazing concert at the Montreal Forum at the time. One of my favorite concert ever. Great song and performance. Master at electronic drum drumming!
Fantastic live performance. Nothing will replace the sound and feel that the members of Yes have given to the musical world. Jon, among his great vocals, always has a message to give through his lyrics. I find it interesting that the camera did not show the bass player much, if at all.
I always liked this song. tempo seems fine to me. live is often a bit quicker thanks to adrenaline. when i hear bands live at studio bpm often feels slow. great post bill thank you. and the electronics really worked. I think even today a 'real ' snare and bronze metals is still the way to go though.
I actually bought the vinyl back then! Still having it - but my player gave up. I was happy to get a little "YES" feeling at the time. The 80ies had a lot of terrible music (for my taste). Of all the rock and prog-rock quitarists I guess Steve Howe was the greatest inspiration to me. I am surprised you say its hard to play along. I always thought he was the master of precision.
This tape was in heavy rotation during my high school and college years. Jon’s voice stands the test of time. Sorry Mr Bruford the same can not be said about your electronic drums.
saw this show "live" on pay per view simulcast, and ACTUALLY live a month earlier. i'm still blown away that Jeff Berlin was able to cover for Tony on last minute's notice.... i mean, HOW??? well, they're both monsters, playing with monsters, so it was amazing either way.
Jeff is a monster player. To learn this kind of music probably wasn´t a challenge for him. But his sound is too thin and it´s often completely lost in the mix.
I just watched the 2022 King Crimson documentary film. I think your characterisation of Adrian as a little child/ puppy lead about by Robert was quite unkind; a gentried sneer, even.
I quite like this song but dear god did the '80s stylings clash with the classic Yes formula--Bill Bruford's dumb space drums, Rick Wakeman's shrill digital keyboards, the only person here who has the right sound for his role is Jon Anderson (he absolutely kills it, flawless performance) and that's only because he doesn't have an instrument so he can't bring the wrong one. Someone get a Moog and some real drums in here! If nothing else the wrong instruments were played very well, but I'd love to hear this sounding more like Close to the Edge or Tales from Topographic Oceans did. The late '80s were just full of the absolute worst productions for anyone who didn't play hip-hop or metal...
i don't like to criticize any particular choice made by any particular grouping of musicians - everything is part of the trip, right? nevertheless, i am inclined to agree with you here. ;)
The one thing I hate the ABWH era is Wakeman's synth choices. It's like walking through bars on a cruise ship. In fact, I've always hated Wakeman's sounds; after the organ, piano, moog, mellotron era of the early 70s.
Shame on you lol. In actuality Rick Wakeman is the best keyboardist in rock man. You have to agree. Sure here he's a bit suppressed.. no, his career speaks for itself. Yes. Lol😊😊😊😊😊. You are in the wrong buddy. Sorry. But hey, let's jam n party up lol😊😊😊😊. It's all good 😅😅😅😅😊😊😊. Yes. Lol.
This for my borther who died recently, we are the dreamers..
❤

Incredible song for many reasons. One of my favorite albums
Absolutely LOVE this song. Steve is fantastic on this. Has special meaning for me, I lost my brother years before this came out.
🙏🏼✨
My favorite post 70s "Yes" song and record!. ABWH is a beautifully done record by any standard!.
I was blessed to see ABWH in Sacramento CA in September 1989 at the CA State Fair. It was general admission; we were standing front stage. A special experience.
That’s great! I saw the Alan Parsons Live Project at Cal Expo. It was a great show 😀
This is such a good song. Yes was so far ahead of their time.
ABWH music could have been called yes... perfect in every way
ABWH is still my number one 'Yes' Album 😉 - and a great feature for the grand Simmons SDX Kit. 👍
Sadly I didn’t give this record a chance back when it came out. I’m almost 55 and this could possibly be my favorite YES album. Love this song! Awesome job Bill and the rest of the band. Thank you for giving the world such great music. I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.

Groovy drum set Bill!
Jon Anderson at his best. Such a beautiful song. The man just exudes love from his very core.
First time listening to this. Thanks Bill.
Thank You Mr. Bruford. Excellent choice of song. Shows off the expertise of all involved.❤
Imo, the best version of YES I ever heard. That goes back to the early days, and that is really saying something.
Bill, you are just such an amazing talent and the world's MOST UNDERRATED drummer!! Much love to you, brother!
Great footage and audio of ABWH at their best. Hard to believe this is 35 years ago. Thanks for sharing a wonderful performance.
I was there. Great show. Doesnt change the fact that Im still mad at you for retiring
At least Bill knew when to retire. Some musicians don't 🙈🙉🙊
the best concert!

I remember seeing this band perform at Blossom Music center and it was a full moon eclipse, it was epic when Jon sang ( in the full moon )
Yes

Esa combinación de Anderson, Brufford y Whitman inmortalizó y dejó para la posteridad un hermosa tema. Y otros más.
The Whole ABWH Evening of Yes Music is my most favorite next to Keys to Ascension Live in San Luis Obispo, CA 1996.
I saw both live including SLO in March of 1996
Awesome. Love this song. Love this album. Love Bruford with Yes! 👍
Saw this tour at The Spectrum in August, 1989. Loved it.
A great song!
A great Anderson!
Missing Chris squire missing the complete yes sound I love this group with Chris love all the lps and I saw so many times as yes. Thank you!
Missing Chris as well but glad Jeff was there to fill the gap ❤
I still am half deaf in my left ear thanks in part to Howe going up so high so often. Gates of Delirium did it. Thanks Steve.
This song.....spring...1990....driving to work, (when the radio actually played), i remember so well.

Great tour. Man, how has it been that long ago?
Thanks Bill.

Saw him/them in '90, in Philly.
Thanks Bill!!!! woouuu What music Beautifull more, really Beautifulll, like me much!!! Thanks For ever!!!!! Daniel Claudio Miller Music Single From of Buenos Aires Argentine!!!
Моя любимая группа!
Tato nádherná píseň s Close to the Edge patří u mě mezi ty nejoblíbenější od Yes. Prostě nádhera, která nikdy nezestárne. ❤
Saw this amazing concert at the Montreal Forum at the time. One of my favorite concert ever. Great song and performance. Master at electronic drum drumming!

Tony Levin was sick, so Jeff Berlin stood in...but yeah, a bit rude not to include him!
@@paulhargreaves1497Jeff is no slouch bass player … either way an amazing band
Thank you Bill for being such an inspiration and helping me expand my drumming and music through the years .
ABWH was a great band.
I saw this tour in Toronto I don't seem to remember too much, love these songs
I always liked this song. tempo seems fine to me. live is often a bit quicker thanks to adrenaline. when i hear bands live at studio bpm often feels slow. great post bill thank you. and the electronics really worked. I think even today a 'real ' snare and bronze metals is still the way to go though.
You gotta give it to Jon though. What a soulful voice. Though by this point, he had that californian sheen.
Un grandissimo show
TRUE musical virtuosity.
Great Scott is coming I was at that concert it was a great great thank thank you Mr bill , thanks for posting remember one thing
You're a awesome drummer and also I met you at Yoshi's in a couple other places so you met me but you don't remember me probably Great Scott
huge fun to hear too... thanks for sharing ! 🙏 🥁

Such found memories of this tour and album.
The tour was amazing!1
Wow! Sounds so freaking good! I saw this band in Atlanta the same year! Fantastic!
I thought Tony Levin dis most of this tour?? And then when they film it the stand in guy who is hardly a stand in Jeff Berlin get the call 😂
No tengo palabras!!! Qué INMENSA BANDA!!! 🙏🏻🎵
達人に囲まれて気持ち良さそうにうたってますね。
This has a very jazzy sound!
love the description
Great video.
This tape was in heavy rotation during my high school and college years. Jon’s voice stands the test of time. Sorry Mr Bruford the same can not be said about your electronic drums.
I love Bill but I agree- that shotgun snare sound is atrocious.
Beautifulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.............

Bill, Se tiver interesse, comenta a canção FIST OF FIRE quando tiver oportunidade. Mal posso esperar, amo o ritimo! Abraço do Tio-do-Mato do Brazil!
Ha!! I was at this show!!!
LA BLANCA TIENE EL SONIDO MAS LIMPIO
EL NONBRE DEL GRUPO ?.
👍👍👍
😊 ✨
Does anyone know the session bass and guitarists names? I know Tony Levin played on the album.
Jeff Berlin on bass, Milton McDonald on guitar. McDonald also played on the album.
SI PUEDE CANTAR BILL TAMBIEN
Is that Jeff Berlin on bass?
Thak You Bill!!❤❤❤
Gracious me! Cheese platter
Jon is the best neutered singer of all time ❤️
And Berlin ...
GUITARRA FENDER BLANCA
Squire needed to be here
I just watched the 2022 King Crimson documentary film. I think your characterisation of Adrian as a little child/ puppy lead about by Robert was quite unkind; a gentried sneer, even.
Nah. You could tell Adrian's childlike excitement with his glances to Fripp (the dark brooding musician sat on a chair in the corner).
ABWH ?.
Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe
I quite like this song but dear god did the '80s stylings clash with the classic Yes formula--Bill Bruford's dumb space drums, Rick Wakeman's shrill digital keyboards, the only person here who has the right sound for his role is Jon Anderson (he absolutely kills it, flawless performance) and that's only because he doesn't have an instrument so he can't bring the wrong one. Sadly, I never warmed up to this line up or their choice of material.
A bit quack, but I like Jon Anderson...
The one thing I hate the ABWH era is Wakeman's synth choices. It's like walking through bars on a cruise ship. In fact, I've always hated Wakeman's sounds; after the organ, piano, moog, mellotron era of the early 70s.
Plus he won't quit noodling. Doesn't understand the concept of space.
Got that tomoto Sound...wished Emerson would have played on a Yes album.
Yes. Lol.
One of the best. E. L. P. Kill it on the keyboards with Emerson.
Hmmm...the drum smack sound in this release just became too overbearing. Sorry, I guess it's me. Everything else is perfect.
I don't like Brufords drums, I prefer traditional ones.
I wouldn't know BB was a great drummer based on this shit kit.
I so wish this was an instrumental. I just can't stand the "voice" of that girl xD
