The 2020 version, which I just received, fixes the reverse gear problem. It now goes right and then down, but the top buttons are gone. Awesome kit though. Love it!
Nice review RVR! The really far gear off to the ipper right would throw me off but I know how much you like driving the more obscure, cars so this shifter really fits the bill! ;)
Geez, you finally got me R-VR Closet... cos this was such an interesting & professional Review - that I just couldn't think of any smart-arse or sarcastic response. And believe me, I sat here for 5-10 mins trying to think of one. So damn you, and your profession 1K Channel, hahahaha. [;]-)
Oh really, yeah I guess it's not a commonly seen shifter, but it has been around for like 8 years I think. It's really cool, it has this prototype and classic formula style to it.👌 Thanks for watching mate!
I'm also happy with it and the wider gates have the advantage that miss-shifts doesn't happen that easy compare to a Fanatec CSS. My one came without this padding over the table-clamp and that was a wise choice, since the shifter fits rocksolid to my aluminium profile. I could replace this two screws over the clamp-part with longer ones and fix them with the profile, but the clamp is so tight, it wouldn't make a difference and it doesn't loosen itself so far.
Nice to hear mate, and a good point about the gates!👍 I swapped a screw underneath and mounted it with a corner bracket to the profile as well just in case.💪😁
Oh, they actually taken out the buttons on the carbon one as well.. .😳 Hm, yeah cutting down but still charging the same..👀 Something we see in all professions sadly..
Is it a new gear stick from 2021? it looks great, it is a curious system that attracts attention. I like the sound when switching 🤤 and that it has buttons
My favorite shifter to use with prototypes, and classic formula cars. One of the buttons on the top have stopped working, otherwise I haven't had an issue with it. I don't think they come with the button box buttons anymore though.
Many thanks for your response. Now my last doubts are gone. I was worried about the durability... Yes, I think you can now decide whether you want the buttons or not. I leave them out - where there is nothing, nothing can break 😉
Hello, how do you like the stiffness when shifting? Based on your video it looks really easy/soft to shift it into gear. The shifter of the Porsche 962C looks a lot harder (based on on-board videos).
It is pretty easy to shift, and the limmit resistance where it get totally locked isn't that high. But this one is different than other shifters, all others have resistance and then fall into gear, the Frex have a dragging resistance all the way till it is in gear that you have to follow through. A feeling I really like with this one. But if you wan't a really heavy shift, this isn't the one to get.
Nice review made, thanks for sharing. I'm really interested in that lock out system, I have immense trouble using h-pattern in dirt rally because the game is so bloody fussy about clutch timing, and because it's possible to move the shifter without depressing the clutch so getting it right is all guess work, or muscle memory that I haven't developed yet. But locking out the shifter movement until the clutch was engaged would be awesome!
The reverse location would be an issue for me. I did just check their site and it looks like the new one has it reverse gear down and to the right now. At least that’s what the shift knob shows.
It was a bit scarry in the beginning, but not an issue anymore, having it to the right and down would have been a lot better though! Oh yeah you are right, on that Alloy one, guessing they have upgraded the shifter again then.👍
@@RVRCloset It’s even on the carbon fiber shift knob on the carbon fiber unit without the buttons. It doesn’t say it was changed in the description only they added a threshold feeling for the reverse gear. Whatever that means.
Another great review i'm really enjoying your rubberband test and the clip of them breaking made me laugh. I look forward to seeing how you mod that clutch option onto the Heusinkveld sprints. Great vid 😍😍👍
Hi everyone. I bought this Frex shifter and am looking for suggestions on how best to mount it to my Next Level GT Lite. I don't have permitted space for a proper rig in my house.
I would probably have drilled a few holes in the side of the rig and mounted a angle iron to attach the shifter, or if there is space on the top beside the wheel, if it dosn't make it to high up.
I like your videos. For an over all Shifter to use in ANY car that you feel like using would you choose the Pro Sim or this Frex Shifter? Does the style of this shifter take away from the driving experience in a old Mustage for example( even driving in VR)?........................if you could only have one
Thank you so much!😀🍻 This shifter feels really good in prototypes and formula cars, and also work well in lets say the MX5 and Spec Racer Ford. But yes, for other cars, like an old Mustang or a Classic DTM or Group A car, the Frex feels too nimble. If I could only keep one, it would be the Prosim.
Yes I did. Pretty cool feature, but do to that the simsynchro is mechanical, if you put preload on the shifter, that will lock the clutch pedal. So if you are not careful it could end up damaging something..
@@RVRCloset I just got mine! I’m confused as to why no one has mentioned that you can hard mount it directly to profile without disassembly just by replacing the bolts on the top plate with longer ones and then you can use the clamp to prevent any leverage from torquing the bolts.
@@SirJamestheIII Yes that is a possibility, I've actually did that as well when having the shifter off the rig to mount the SimsSynchro. What is your thoughts on the shifter?
@@RVRCloset definitely an improvement over the fanatec. And much more difficult to mis shift or money shift. Had to find a sweet spot with the tension adjustment. It’s hard to find where it’s not too tight so you aren’t locking into gear but not too loose so that you don’t feel a click into neutral. I found that 3rd/4th to neutral might not give a positive click if it was loose. But once you find the sweet spot it feels like there is a break in period and the shifting feel improves over time. Probably because of spreading the lubrication inside the unit. Also the center neutral position is off center. Doesn’t bother me but makes me want to find out how to mount it slightly rotated to counteract that to see if that would also improve the feel.
@@RVRCloset I guess 3 month update is that you get more range of adjustment in the tension as the lubrication spreads. Also I think with a less heavy gear knob, that you get more range as well. I find that skipping gears is mixed. It’s harder to skip 2 gears (eg 5th to 2nd) but easier to skip one gear (eg 6th to 3rd). I actually think it’s better to skip fewer gears for better braking performance, but I like to race early 90s f1 where skipping gears is pretty common. It’s also possible to mis a gear due to the shift pattern but that’s immersive, but an occasional missed gear is less race ruining than when I money shifted all the time with my fanatec.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah I've seen them around a long time but didn't know they had this much sim gear, they really have some cool stuff on their rigs!😃👌
