Death Defier is definitely a great song. I'm pleased with this album and from a previous interview John is really happy with it too. I'm not a musician. I just love Skillets music. I've lost a friend due to depression and anxiety. I'm glad John has songs that address's today's times. I know Jen struggles with anxiety herself. Congrats to them on this twelfth album. Thanks for your reactions, Dave. God bless you & yours! 🙏❤️
Does Jen have any imaginary friends because that’s how I deal with my anxiety and loneliness by talking to my imaginary friends from my favorite movies or tv shows and there’s this movie called imaginary friends or if, for short and it reminds me that your imaginary friends are always with you despite people thinking we’re crazy or weird and I don’t care if people think that of me at all, that’s just how I am
I enjoyed your reactions and thoughts! As someone who's had very mixed feelings about Skillet's quality of work after Comatose, I'm actually pretty pleased with Revolution. No, it's not a masterpiece. But it's easily better than Dominion, which also has less than stellar sound production (even when noting the few tracks here that lacked the punch the rest had). Probably Victorious and Unleashed on a per song basis, as well. I think Revolution does a good job marrying the post-Alien Youth eras of Skillet, without feeling stale for the most part. Moreover, the whole record is just musically and thematically interesting and diverse--it's groovy (Showtime, Revolution, Death Defier), bold (Unpopular, All That Matters, Not Afraid), and poignant (Ash in the Wind, Fire Inside of Me, Defector, Happy Wedding Day). Personally, I've felt Skillet's songwriting has been on a precipitous decline since Comatose, as well. For once, Revolution feels like a step up. It still features trademark lines and ideas I've grown weary of (like you noted with Not Afraid), but overall, I found the writing tighter, more coherent (and thus poetic), and more pensive than recent albums. Hopefully a meaty deluxe edition is on the way, because 10 tracks and 35 minutes is obviously not the norm. At the same time, it features stronger pacing and less filler. The fact that the album doesn't slow things down as much or have those one or two "experimental" tracks is a plus for me. EDIT: One aspect I still think is lacking is the bridge section. I really want Skillet to do more with those, and make some slightly longer tracks in the process. One aspect I love is I get to enjoy the bass again! It felt very muted after Rise. It's a lot more prominent here.
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a detailed response. Loved reading your thoughts and definitely hear you on a lot of points. I like the categorization you've grouped the songs into. Definitely puts the album in a more linear-perspective. I might be in the minority in thinking Dominion is quite a strong album and even if the mixing isn't 100% perfect, I'd much rather take every song with the same production standard vs some bad/some very good. I've been thinking recently about making an albums ranking video for Skillet to give a rounded out thought on their catalog and really take an analytical approach to what I would consider my concrete ranking. Would that be something you're interested in watching?
Great reviews I think personally this album had alot of new design without having kinda like you were saying repetive lyrics from the past this album just seemed really fresh and I'd say the best from them in a while very pleased with the music, really gave me middle school vibes, started listening to them in 98 and they have been my favorite band since.
I think detector, showtime and death defier are my personal favorites, i also like not afraid as well, if you noticed, the solo in that song has a little bit of a dragonforce vibe to it with the movement of the guitar
Enjoyed watching all the reactions! You’re the best reactor! But yes I was highly pleased with this album myself! I felt the same way it was a roller coaster vibe, with the feels and emotions in it! Keep on man! Looking forward to more in the future!
This album is definitely my favourite next to Dominion. My top 3 tracks on here had to of been Death Defier, Not Afraid and Unpopular My least favourite track had to of been showtime, I loved its style but it feels like a rehash of feel invincible or legendary, especially the part where john goes "here we go here we go" just is way too reminincent of "To the top to the top aint never gonna stop" from Legendary, part of me really wants to like that song but its just such a rehash to those two old tracks it just doesnt do anything to me But other than that, Revolution is definitely a solid album for me, and Im glad you're back on YT to react to it! as soon as I heard they were bringing out a new album I immediately thought of your old reactions to albums like Victorious and Dominion. Rock on! 🤘
I feel like Jen overall was less used or at least used less well on dominion in comparison to this record Edit: just checked dominion it does have more Jen but I would argue it was implemented worse than in revolution.
@@anseljames5531 if I had it my way we’d be hearing her just as much as John! I think the thing this album missed was a song like Destiny where she had prominence in sections of the song

This album to me has elements of collide, comotose, awake, rise ,and dominion in it.
That definitely does not take away the uniqueness of this album too, especially Revolution and Death Defier

Death Defier is just the best example of living free, and also the best example of a bada__ song. Haven’t had a song this fun in a while id say.
Please react to Skillet- Anchor and Skillet - Madness in me
