SMC was established in 1959 under the name Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo Co., Ltd. The current name “SMC” stands for Sintered Metal (Shoketsu Kinzoku in Japanese) Company. Under the “customer-first policy” maintained since its establishment, responding to customer requests, SMC began the manufacture and sales of automatic control equipment including pneumatic
instruments. Globally expanding its manufacturing, sales, and research and development activities.
