Mike approaching Arnold aggressively while Arnold sat down like abused puppy and refused to look at him in the eye after he made that comment, was the definition of fearfulness
The more I learn about bodybuilding/training/exercise etc. I feel the only reason why Arnold ever did a double split is because he loved having a pump all the time. He was addicted to that feeling.
Arnold was clearly overtraining if we was actually training that long and that often! I bet he would had been bigger if he didn t overtrained! Muscles, tendons, nervous system need time to recover and this is true for Everyone unless you are an alien that is just build different!
I definitely think Mike should have won its a shame that he didn't use the loss as motivation and continued . The meth for him I believe turned into more than just a pre workout and he already had heart disease in his genetics as well as his brother he was too into his head which is why he was great but also why he spiraled downward its a horrible loss of a unique human. He could have created a whole new sub genre with his ideals like many do today what a waste but this is life not all ends well

Mentzer's own "most productive" routine which can be found online is the routine he said gave him his peak amount of muscle. On paper it has him doing 60-90 sets to failure per week. He also rode his bike "at least 40 miles a week, and up to 120 precontest." If I rode my bike 40 miles a week, I wouldn't be able to gain any muscle. I've tried it. 120 would be crippling.

I agree with Mike that Arnold shouldn’t have won the Mr Olympia 1980 but at that point he was larger than life in the movie world and from Pumping iron there’s no way their poster boy was gonna lose thats fact. Don’t get me wrong I’m an Arnold fan but if Ferrigno would have beaten Arnold we wouldn’t have had the icon we see today he may have continued into movies but they would have came and went.
Mike did, he saved time and energy to build the same amount of muscle, both work, ones easier to adhere to and gives the same results if not often better due to adherence and simplicity. Many things can go wrong with volume.
@Mantastic-ho3vm Demonstrably untrue, most of mikes physique was documented as being built through HIT. Dorians from 85 was HIT albeit, a less logical version with more than one set until mike came along and suggested he reduced the sets of which he then started developing more once again. Devils advocate, they built 70-80% of physique with volume, very good, volume also works. But then HIT also worked and for them built even more muscle, even closer to their genetic peak. Both work, once saves time and effort.
A sprinter and the marathon runner can they switch places evenly? No they can not the marathon runner can't run nearly as fast as the Spencer and the sprinter can not run nearly as far as the marathon runner you can and you cant build mhscdo one or the other you can not run full speed for 20 muscle. Very quick at all training training sux days a week often twice a day without drugs if you are new to training you will completely burn yourself out in less than a month without less whos primary function is to greatly enhance protein synthesis i.e recovery ability high intensity trainers like myself take enough time off not only to recover fully from THE wirkout but also to actually grow before the next workout XO if you only wait until you are longer sore and then just workout again right after you feel no soreness you are spinning your wheels since you cud not allow your muscles ample time for growth production before the next workout in the end both can work but one will take slot longer to get there and it will over work your entire nervous system in ways you can't image the other way you can get the same results or better in just a few years as hard as simple was training its not nearly as be could have been if he had only been training 3 days a week or less you do not and can. It grow in THE gym and if you are training twice a day six times a week when are you growing when you are sleeping maybe? And on Sundays when you are not going to the gym so you severely limit you growth days because of your blind gym addiction I hate it when people say I train more often to have more opportunities for growth again not unless you are on 600cc of test and growth hormone. You can base the theory if mire is better kn!y mostly on Sex and money but it does not coralate to building extra muscle that's not hos it works long term the recovery period after the workout is100% ax important as the workout itself
I 100% agree with you! Most I ve trained was 3 times a week and now is like 2 times a week and I might take even longer periods or rest for bigger muscles like legs and back! I never used streroids or other enhancements , I don eat more then 120g of proteins a day , I eat everything I want and in the gym Push , Pull , Legs split with like 2-3 days of rest between the training. I also spend more time , like 2H or more since I start from low weights where I can do like 20 reps or more and increase each time the weight up to where I can do under 4 reps or just do isometric! Almost every week my strength goes up and also I gain some muscles!
Mike Mentzer was in better, much better condition in the 1980 Olympia than when he achieved a perfect score of 300 Arnold the Austrian Arsehole, would not have entered a fair contest with Mentzer This so called contest, was a public relations exercise and the 'winner' was decided before they had landed in Sydney!
1980 and 1981 were a complete joke. Weider gave the Olympia to his buddies. Mentzer was on steroids which made him aggressive and confrontational, plus he didn't have to train six days a week because the steroids did the work for him. He only did one set for each movement. Arnie did stacks of sets for each muscle group. He went beyond exhaustion.
@Mantastic-ho3vm Bro.. that statement is soo stupid ! Both relied on drugs plus training! And Mike had the better type of training since he let time for his muscles to heal and grow! Arnold was just pumping all the time and he would had got way better results with less training and more recovery!!
High volume is better for your health you not only get less injurys but is great for longevity ..Arnold trained the correct way his still alive ..where as high intensity puts to much stress on the heart joints muscles and mentally is exhausting ..with high intensity training you need more anabolic steroids for growth which obviously taken frequently kills injures disables
This is the exact opposite lol. HIT is better for health and longevity, volume accumulates and beats up the joints. Look up modern HIT principles on Jay Vincent’s channel. Most efficient and safest way to train to maximize gains.
