  • This lovely Abus Rock 83CS/55 was lent to me by KeyMOE from the U.K. Locksport forum :-) it’s a great lock, but the bitting makes it a relatively easy pick :-)

Took your advice and ordered some shims from Sparrows. After cutting several locks easily I came across a lock that jammed the pins whilst removing the core. It was at that moment I said to myself "And that's why LN said I need to use shims".
      Thanks for the advice.

In my opinion one of the greatest Abus Padlocks. The Abus 83CS/55 is a real heavyweight & wonderful to pick, that was a great job & great video.

Great looking lock. Looked heavy too.
Very nicely picked LN. It had you dancing there for a minute but your shuffle won out in the end.

I like Abus locks. Very easy to work with, a dream to rekey, can be made very secure, and lots of keying options.

    • @LockNoob

I completely agree - one of the best lock brands for the money IMO. :-)

How would you make this lock more secure? I'm thinking about buying one, but after seeing this (and other) videos of the picking, I don't know if I should buy it.

Hi Lock Noob, I just popped my first abus 83 cherries. Strange part I was only concentrating on the tension and what was audible. Obviously I was rapt when I got it.

Leave the clip on, push that button, and you can rotate the core so that the key pins face the pinning window, so you can repin the core to another key. This mechanism allows for easy repinning. A lot of Abuses (Abi?) with removable cores have pinning windows.
Actually, you don't even need a follower. You can first remove the key pins through the pinning window, then use the core itself as a follower.

    • @LockNoob

Hmmm, that does sound well thought out, but I think I’ll practice on a lock I own... I can very well see me somehow bricking a perfectly good lock, lol.... I’m not exactly mr smooth when it comes to gutting :-D

    • @LockNoob

With more extreme bitting, this could be a WHOLE lot harder. I wa lucky :-)

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  6 ปีที่แล้ว

With more extreme bitting, they can be really hard, the Extra Classe in particular :-)

@@LockNoob Hi locknoob, I recently bought one with pins 4 an 5 being nearly zero cuts and those in front of them, 1,2,3 seems to be high cuts… nearly as high that if you would go even higher there wouldn’t be any material left to hold the key together. Really nasty bitting on mine :D I didn’t managed to open this beast yet. I’m opening abus 72/40 and other locks more easily on a regular basis. If you know the Reddit belt classes, where would you rank the 83cs/55? Also I didn’t gutted mine yet, but Abus catalogues say they come 5/6 Pins mounted by factory. Really curious whether mine is 5 or 6 pin setup.
      Great video as always ;)

@@LockNoob thanks for the reply. Would be to secure a generator, but I think I have moved on from this particular lock. Thinking the Granit plus core might be a better fit for me. Hopefully harder to pick since it uses discs, not pins.
