congratulationes to y'all on destroying my mind again with yet another damn good Voiceplay cover... can't wait to react to them again! Which Voiceplay cover should I react to next?? You guys pick!
Since you did this one, I recommend you do VoicePlay's Drunken Sailor next. It is considered a sequel to Hoist the Colours. And it also features Jose Rosario, Jr. in that one as well.
Please do a reaction to Voice Play Queen In 5 Minutes. It is a medley of Queen songs & very theatrical. This one is sure to break you. They have always been called The Theater Kids of Acapella.
Here's a few more brain breakers... Nothing Else Matters Warriors Dragon Born Comes (from Skyrim) Oogie Boogie Song Creep And hold on tight for Seven Nation Army!!
Whatever genre VoicePlay takes on they do it in style. :) One of my absolute favourites, this one. It's a visceral epxerience for me. Shakes me to my bones. Another favourite is The Dragonborn Comes, from Skyrim. But the first time I ever saw them was in Tennessee Whisky and it still moves me.
A little Hoist the Colours trivia: Jose Rosario Jr. was a last-minute replacement for another guest artist who was originally slated to perform with them (Anthony Gargiula, who has since joined them for their covers of Golden Hour, Seven Nation Army, Creep and The Wellermen, among others.) It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as Jose makes an absolutely perfect pirate captain--that crowning moment of awesome when he draws himself up and raises his sword was an ad-lib on his part. Also, since Jose's range is different from Anthony's, they had to assign what was originally the guest vocalist's part to Eli instead, and he got his rock god mojo working and knocked it completely out of the park. IMO it couldn't have worked out better if they'd planned it.
Told you so!! This is from the opening scene of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 when pirates and people thought to be associated with them are being led to the gallows. Young boy being lifted onto a barrel because he is too short for the noose to reach his neck starts singing this. Everyone in the line to the gallows joins in. This is Geoff's arrangement which means he planned the shoot, the set, the costumes, the makeup. He did the first mix (Ed Boyer does the final mix for Voiceplay, Geoff, and other acapella groups). Geoff hung that huge backdrop. Eli has been doing their lighting and special effects for some time now.
This is the reason I gave them the #TheatreKidsOfACapella. They never disappoint. This is Geoffs' arrangement. In the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie At World's End the hanging scene at the being of the movie the little boy starts singing this song. Not to be mean but please read the video credits. Arrangement - Geoff Castellucci Video - Geoff Castellucci Lighting Design - Eli Jacobson and Geoff Castellucci Audio Mix - Ed Boyer Makeup - Rick Underwood Steadicam Operator - Andy Montejo Steadicam Assistant - Kyle Massey Production Manager - Kathy Castellucci
I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! Since you enjoyed J None's rapping solo in "Valhalla Calling" I think you would love his rapping solo in "Superstition" and the "Mission Impossible/Jingle Bells" mash up.
Now you need to react to Home Free. I recommend starting with their Sing Off version of Cruise (not their newly released version of it) because that shows you them at the start of the popularity (they've been a band for a long time but skyrocketed to fame with the show). It's still great and when you listen to the newer stuff you'll recognize how even better they are. HF rounds out the trifecta of A Capella with Pentatonix and VoicePlay. They bill themselves as a country group however, they sing all genres (and have a very loyal fan base).
6:32 I can tell you are officially broken now 😉 lol. This was the first Voiceplay song I'd ever heard, and I completely lost my crap. I was hooked from then on. Great reaction
Pirates of the Caribbean 3?...one reactor forgot he wasn't wearing pants and jumped out of his chair at that first really low note Geoff sang. Welcome to the realm of broken reactors you're in wonderful company.
I saw that it was from Pirates of the Caribbean when I went to the song's genius page linking the song credits... that makes me love it one billion times more🤯
@@mattofficialstudios I just saw your Wellerman/Bass Gang reaction and you said you like Sea Shanties and The Wellerman in particular, Voiceplay has a short of The Wellerman on their channel, it's the entire song but in their mini/short form... and btw Jose Rosario Jr was from Rockapella, not sure if he's still with them though.
Thank you for another priceless reaction to Voice Play another great one that will absolutely break you by Voice Play is Queen In 5 Minutes. It is a medley of Queen songs & you won't want to miss it. Also ( Voice Play ) Hilarious Deep Dive Into Voice Play. Geoff's wife Kathy plays the part of the waitress. All the other people are family members & friends of Voice Play. That will break you as well. Not too many people know of this song so let's get the word out.
Ack, sorry to do so many comments, but just gotta add, it's great you have two of the three main rules of listening to Voiceplay/Geoff Castellucci videos down. #1) NEVER assume a video is over until the patrons roll! Often they'll have a "subscribe" or black screen, then something AFTER that in the outro. #2) Always leave the CC on. It's not uncommon for them to have little gems in them. #3) Don't look away from the screen, or if you do, when you go back to it, rewind it a few seconds, because they have some great "Blink and you'll miss it" moments. It's a good rule of thumb when you pause the video too, because sometimes you can miss a transition. Anyway, just some helpful tips...welcome to the wonderful world of Voiceplay!
This was in a Pirates of The Caribbean movie, as some have mentioned. There isn't a Voiceplay song I dislike, though I do like some more than others. And as a matter of fact, Voiceplay has made me like songs I didn't like before. This is my second favorite Voiceplay song/video. I listen to it as I sleep, and have listened to it over 40,500 times between the first of January and the first of December 2023. It used to be my favorite, but was surpassed by "Valhalla Calling" which is a little to hardcore to sleep to. But I listen to it every other night for several hours on repeat. I just like it that much. I think, for a taste of something more romantic and contemporary, their versions of "Creep" and "Golden Hour" are excellent, like back when Earl Jenkins was their high tenor, and of course whenever J None returns to the group. "Warriors" is a great older one. And one video that is less of a music video but is a ton of fun, is "Road Trip," back in their days with former baritone Tony Wakim. He and Layne, the beatboxer, own "Pattycake Productions" which is part of why Voiceplay has access to some truly awesome sets and make-up and such. In fact, Tony filmed Voiceplay's latest "Jingle Bell Rock-Mean Girls" on his iPhone!
This song/video deserves a fricken Emmy award. If Pentatonix can get on for Daft Punk medley, this video absolutely deserves an Emmy. This is my favorite Voice Play song.
Clarification...they received a Grammy for their Daft Punk and Sugar Plum Fairy arrangements. Only Scott has an Emmy for being a producer/musical director for their national anthem performance at last years NCAA championship. But in other comments...yes VoicePlay does deserve recognition for their amazimg arrangment talents.
Awesome reaction!! This is one of my favorites from VoicePlay! I know you already watched Valhalla Calling so I'll suggest "Nothing Else Matters." It's mind blowing! Happy Holidays! ❤
Follow this up with Drunken Sailor. Geoff arranged it, as he did HTC, and it also has Jose Rosario. And the drunken sailor is played by Mathew Buckner, who was a member back when the group was called 4:2:Five. He sings in the VP mini 500 Miles. Bucky also choreographed Monster Mash for Geoff's solo channel.
Thanks fir the reaction. Knew you'd love thus song. Definitely need to check out Queen in 5 Minutes and Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. Then you can check out Golden Hour Trapped by Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes Panic at the Disc in 4 Minutes (part 1&2) Mission Jingle Bells Butter
I havent heard one VoicePlay song that hasnt broken me in one way or another. Usually its because im just astonished that human beings can make the noises these boys (sorry men) make. Oh since its Christmas time you should react to Youre A Mean One Mr. Grinch or Christmas Don't Be Late
Great Reaction to a phenomenal Acapella Group. I would like to highly recommend Dan Vasc Amazing Grace. He is another independent artist with phenomenal vocal abilities.
You need to react to In The Air Tonight cover by Voice Play. Also, their cover of Metallica's song, Nothing Else Matters. You also need to listen to Geoff Castellucci's cover of Jack's Lament from The Nightmare Before Christmas. You will not be disappointed!

Totally agree. It wouldn't have been the same at all. It's just so powerful with this lineup.
As much as I like Anthony, I agree that this is a superb arrangement.
