Even the music was like a character on its own. There’s so much dept in each theme that you know what it means when you hear it. This is what music is supposed to do when you hear it.
This was the 80s. It was the golden age for musical thematic brilliance in film and television.
The 80's was MASSIVELY effected by John Williams use of leitmotif's in Star Wars. Everything changed. Empire Strikes Back was 1980 and Thundercats was 5 years later. Here the same strong thematic motiffs in Robotech a year later.
American composers across medias were already well familar with the importance of jingles and mood it can't be understated that Japanese composers DID NOT GET IT AT ALL. It took them untill the early 2000's for their music to convert from Melodic over tones to Leitmotifs and J-Pop to Electric Guitars...which is why many scenes in their anime and movies lack the punch of America equals or counterparts.
Listen for the difference in pieces like Thundercats because it was a time of musical revolution.

Of course. Those theme songs had really memorable melodies yet a very complex instrumentation. If you like this kind of music, I recommend Saint Seiya Soundtrack. It's brilliant.

The Thundertank theme is always one of my favourites. You can really feel the power behind the music. You know that when the Thundertank roars onto the scene, bad guys asses are truly gonna be kicked.

The music and cartoons of the 80s are and will forever be timeless classics!! Cartoons of today do not measure up in terms of creative storytelling filled with suspense, drama, and emotion.
This is what one of the main reasons for the internet is for: to archive awesome moments in history (big or small).
Eventually, all those who watched this show will perish and those who just 'heard' about it will forget. Then, like countless generations before us, our particular awesomeness will be forgotten. But like those past gens, we can say "we LIVED!". Ride the temporary wave, friends. Ride it hard! for nothing is ever static.
The last echo heard from our time on our wave will be "Thundercats HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!".
Back when I was 20, I used to work at a warehouse where life was tough. I used to play Thundercats (casual) in my head to help me get through. It always had this striving against all odds element to it.
The Jaga Theme is really grand I love it. Listening to these again at 39 brings back memories, I used to love this show more than He-Man and to this day the opening intro cannot be beaten in my humble opinion. I always loved the Thundertank theme, the guitar licks and trumpet almost sound like a vehicle revving up.
Just happen to stumble upon this and didnt know they had a full album of its OST...and by gosh, the nostalgia...THIS is what originality should sound like. I am so lucky to have experienced Thundercats as a child. Now a 40-yr old, I STILL it.

Oh my god, I've always wanted to listen to each song separately, the quality is incredible.
Anyone here ever play in a marching band or drum & bugle corps.? This soundtrack is fantastic and would've been a total BLAST to play in band (I was a drummer/percussionist, and the drumming throughout this album is stellar). I love Cheetara's theme. The brass (trumpets, especially!), piano, flutes, bass, and guitar in that tune are sensational. Panthor's theme and the Thundertank theme, which is basically an expanded version of his theme, ROCK! Tygra's theme is an inspiring anthem with a definite Bill Conti/Rocky-esque vibe, and the track titled "Save The Day" (29:48) ought to be titled "Lion-O's Theme," in my opinion. That's the tune I've always associated with him, and it's killer. "Mumm-Ra, The Ever Living" is every bit as ominous and frightful as Mumm-Ra himself-a fitting leitmotif for that most terrifying of animated villains, to be sure. Of course, nothing tops the main ThunderCats title theme, however. Bernard Hoffer truly created a "film score" worthy of an epic live action movie. Outstanding work!!!

I think that the music made for Thundercats, is a masterpiece. Just listening to it without seeing any episodes, you still get the feel that there is something going on that would probably scare the crap out of you if it was real.

Loved this, I've just learned about Bernard Hoffer, never knew about his name. I used to watch Thundercats in the livingroom at noon or a little later when I was like twelve. At twelve you can't believe pretty much nothing that happens in a tv set while nothing really surprises you twenty years later, or perhaps it's just me. The sound was everything, I didn't come out an action films fan for nothing, but it is not music just made for an action thriller, I think it has a little more, like... they were going after a pyramid, hey, that's certain panic and a thrill, or something like that.

Whenever I listen to this piece of music it always takes me back to when I was about 6 or 7 years old and knowing what the title is and just the overall mood of the music it makes me reflect over my own life now at 40.

I think this is the closest one will ever get to an official soundtrack, but it's better than nothing. I noticed it is incomplete but a lot of hard work went into it. Bernard Hoffer deserves a lot of credit for a job well done to. I'm also going to set the Thunder Tank theme tune as the ring tone on my new Samsung Galaxy J5 phone.

Man, no words. Lesson learned is a such strongly emotionally song. Make me feel when I was a just a innocent child believing in innocence. A piece of art🖤😥. The piano is fantastic, the accustic guitar, and powerful bass so epic. The flutes so calmly. 😓⚔️🛡️
