My favorite part of hsr aeons writing is the fact that because so many people were gendering the aeons, hoyoverse now fully capitalizes “they” and “them” (etc) whenever they are referred to in game 😭
A lot of places have capitalised they/them pronouns in game as of recent updates. I took a break from the game for a couple updates and came back in 2.0, and not only are the aeons’ pronouns capitalised, a lot of other instances of neutral pronouns being used are. Like the limited ticket gacha item (red and gold one) says something along the lines of “got a friend you want to visit? Come see the world with him/her/it/THEM”. And them is the only one capitalised. Does it mean it’s referring to visiting an aeon? Or are nonbinary people in hsr the equivalent of gods? Who knows.

moreover I'd like to add that in the very few entries in the data bank where they actually use pronouns for the aeons in chinese, it is always the supposedly gender neutral 祂. 祂 is typically only used in the context of referencing god as in like capital g god. the big man upstairs, jesus's pops- you get the point. while English uses a gendered pronoun for god chinese doesn't (side note here, I am not sure if 祂 is gendered or not, because it is a whole nother category than 他 - he 她 - she 牠 - referring to animals exclusively, and 它 - referring to objects only.) so the aeons are also gender neutral in chinese.

It's so sad how much she really misses her because up until the hcq jingliu lived her whole life as a weapon without emotions and only truly began experiencing life as a person when she was with baiheng. She came back to the luofu after 700 years despite being exiled just so that she could hold a proper funeral for baiheng, she remembered their promise despite centuries of being mara-struck, and baihengs face was the only one she saw clearly during her final battle with blade. All I could see when watching the black swan/acheron animation was "how tf did they get away with this", i was so insanely surprised at how gay it was. I think they got away with the animation because it turned to horror at the end (queerness can get past censorship easier if it’s painted in a negative light), but we know from the subsequent Penacony quests that Black Swan isn’t suspicious/scared of Acheron anymore :3

Different ways to interpret it bc Aventurine just seems naturally Zesty (I hate that about him tbh. He just likes to zest and fruit about) but Hoyoverse makes lesbians canon in Honkai Impact 3rd so it's not like they haven't done it b4. They like to make implications that everyone is on the bi scale so whether or not they like the MC, it's less work to make hundreds of changes for each gender. Genshin is so much more clearer in this with how several characters will either admit to liking the traveler enough to be their partner or marry them. Mostly the girls bc I hardly ever see or notice male characters leaning affection on us (maybe Hoyo isn't there yet) but it's not hard to see what they do.

Here to add additional details to Dan Heng/Blade's story, if I recall correctly we learn through implication and Jingliu telling us (as well as some suss diaolgue about Bailu that I will detail when relevant) that what happened with Dan Feng and Yingxing was after Baiheng's death, they took the corpse of the Abundance Monstrosity and used it's never ending life essence with Dan Feng's vidyadhara blood to reincarnate Baiheng as a vidyadhara. Unfortunately, during this Yingxing was, effectively infected by the monstrosities un-ending life essence, and that corrupted him and turned him into a mara-struck immortal, the only reason he can function as a regular person is because Kafka has the Spirit-Whisper ability and can repress it's effects, sort of like how Jingliu does it. Now onto Bailu, from my understanding, the entirety of Jingliu's story quest is her going around and visiting with all of her friends from the High Cloud Quintet, and strangely enough, there is a decent chunk of story dedicated to her visiting Bailu, and Bailu being like, "Yo girlie your health is all sorts of fucked, here let me make you a medicine." From what I know of Bailu's lore and story, despite being the next High Elder of the Vidyadhara, Bailu does not dream, which is super weird and strange and the other elders don't really understand what the hell is going on. However, when she visits the Astral Express, she finally dreams, and she dreams of flying in some sort of device super high up. We also know that Baiheng was a Pilot, like Yukong. Also at the end of the story quest, when Dan Heng is saying goodbye to everyone, he has a long walk and chat with Bailu, and it's through this that Bailu is able to inherit some of the abilities of the High Elder, and it requires both Dan Heng AND Bailu to do... something. I forgot exactly what happens but I remember witnessing this event. So, some speculate, though I feel it is heavily implied, that the event that catalyzed all of the drama and caused Blade to get mara-struck, and Dan Feng to be forcefully reincarnated, was a ritual done after Baiheng's death to reincarnate her as Bailu. Anyway, that's my lore ramblings for now, if I've said anything wrong please feel free to correct me in the comments. Au revoir!
I also want to say that Blade doesn't remember not because of becoming immortal, but because after Jingliu had to kill the abomination her basically wife became she hunted Yingxing down and killed him over and over and over again. She tortured her own ethos into him, making him forget his past and his affect with Dan Feng and to hate him and believe his death will free him from her torment. "Of five, three shall pay a price" isn't Blade's own ethos, it's her's. Also E didn't talk about it but Jingliu and Baiheng were every bit as gay together as Yingxing and Danfeng. The High Cloud Quintent was nothing but tragic gays and Jingliu's adopted son Jing Yuan was just there for the ride.

Some other examples of potential queercoding I'd like to point out: 1. In Robin's demo, she dances with two other NPC women. Considering how Honkai Star Rail used dancing with Black Swan and Acheron to symbolize a homoerotic relationship, this made me raise an eyebrow 2. when we first meet her she looks at March (who's fangirling super damn hard, real) and says "I never thought a cutie like yourself would be a fan of mine". Definitely holds less water but paired with everything else, it also makes me raise an eyebrow. On another note, I gotta ask those who believe she's straight- what's the evidence? Genuinely. Edit: I clarified my entire comment since I feel like it needed it. Also, I must say the replies under here are very, very weird to read. Some of y'all just need to admit you're homophobic, and some of you need to watch a video fully before commenting. ALSO also, I'd like to say as of right now nobody has actually answered my question, so far all I've seen is just excuses to try and discredit the queercoding, which ISN'T what I was asking for! :] Since replying to specific comments will prove useless as I know how you people are, I'll just state my counterpoints here: 1. 'The colors under her eye represent Xipe': This is frankly a very weak argument. The halo around Xipe's head consists of the ENTIRE rainbow + white. If the dots under Robin's eye were supposed to represent this rainbow halo, it would not be two warm colors and white. Trying to deny the colors don't 'match' any flag (the lesbian flag) is just that- denial. HoyoVerse doesn't do coincidences, we can clearly see it in how their storytelling is done, especially with Penacony. A multi-million dollar cooperation who NEEDS to take careful consideration of every detail on their characters- since it's where they get profit from- would have certainly seen what the colors under her eye could be referring to, and changed it. But they didn't. 2.'Her sexual orientation is inconsequential': Nice job for pointing that out, that's how it is with most characters in non-romance stories on a surface level. However, even if things are inconsequential to the story, evidence of it can still exist and is not immediately discredited. Character depth! 3.'I don't like how people are attacking others over headcanons': Great, I agree! That's irrelevant to my comment, though.

I’m fine if she is lesbian but I don’t like that people where attacking others over not sharing the same headcanon. The evidence is also pretty subtle like you can get it if you really read into it but like it’s not something people are going to immediately connect like my eyesight’s kinda bad so, until I zoomed in to verify the dot colors I could not tell since I only really saw the vague shade. I think people should just be more civil about it and not force their canons onto other people or attack people who don’t agree with their headcanon and this goes both ways
At the end of the day, the people who look for queer coding in these games are not doing anything wrong. As long as people (in general) are not assholes and insist there is only one way to view a character or situation, we should all be able to have fun with our different interpretations. I salute you all who HC Robin as a lesbian. I'll continue to sit in my Ace corner with my own views on Robin.
sushang is canonically a lesbian in honkai impact 3rd, and one of the most hilarious moments of hi3 is a proof of it: she had a crush on otto apocalypse (possibly luocha equivalent, it's not clear) until she found out he was a man 😭
Firefly has extremely romantic overtones with the Trailblazer. I played as Female Trailblazer and it really stood out to me anyway, I have no idea if there are any scene or dialog changes depending on the Trailblazer's gender.
also 2 more things i wanna add about bronseele bcs i just love them sm 1. their e6 arts parallel each other. bronya has her back turned and is facing the right with her eyes closed, while seele is doing the exact same thing but looking to the left instead. 2. this one might be more of a reach, but i think the character trope/archetype hoyo decided to place these two in is pretty intentional. the “rich and privileged but is actually naive” x the “poor and thorny exterior who secretly has a heart of gold” is a VERY popular romance trope imo and very rarely do i see this rich x poor ship dynamic being portrayed in anything other than a romantic light. so i think the fact that they purposefully put bronya in that “rich and naive” role and seele in the “poor but has a good heart” sets them up as a romantic pairing even more, especially considering that their dynamic in hi3 was nowhere like that anyways. they could’ve made them more sibling-like or already close friends to mimic how they were in hi3 but they didn’t. again maybe i’m just reaching bcs i absolutely love this ship but it’s something i couldn’t help but notice. anyways long live the gays in my hoyoverse games
What you said about Bronseele's dynamic reminded me of Vi and Caitlyn from Arcane! Actually the whole Overworld (privileged) and Underworld (unprivileged) really reminded me of Arcane, but I think the way both relationships are developed is similar, and in Arcane's case it's even more obvious that Vi and Caitlyn develop a romantic relationship, so yeah I really like that dynamic

The marriage was in the comics I think, I'm not there yet. And it's very clear kiana and mei were dating. Like, really clear. I'm very curious where you saw an on screen gay wedding in a miHoYo game. Or an on screen kiss in the game. Kiana and Mei in HI3 and Bronya and Seele in HI3 and Star Rail have never kissed in game. No one's been married. There was a Bronya and Seele kiss in the backstory manga Azure Waters, and there is an implies but not explicitly shown Kallen and Sakura kiss in an episode of Cooking with Valkyries. Meanwhile not a single character in any game is explicitly gay (as in, not bi) and several are explicitly straight.

I think the discourse comes from how VASTLY different HI3 is to HSR. They handle ships different too because the original Bronselee ship was created back when Hoyo could easily get away with doing ships like that. There's like a thousand ships in Honkai Impact, gay or otherwise. Honkai Impact afford to be more bold with sesbian lex and ships. I think in a sense HSR is the same with GI where they can't afford to "confirm" ships due to the fact that not only would the fandom go rampant if ships became canon, but again because CCP censorship they had to be more subtle. That said I'd like to think the Bronseele present in HSR is more of either a homage or just fanservice for HI3 fans playing HSR.

That said when a character is being queer coded like that (like Bronseele for example), ships that they want to do (aka they want to have canonized but can't because CCP) will be more obvious than others. Like again, Bronseele. I'm a veteran Honkai player who has decent lore knowledge, and the gay ships in that game are RAMPANT. I believe the same would hold true in their other games, if it was created when Hoyo was not so popular. That's also another factor, HI3 as a game is significantly less popular than GI or HSR. With more eyes scrutinising their work, they run an event greater risk if they tried to make ships as obvious as they do in HI3. I mean I highly doubt we'll ever see characters kiss at all in HSR. Honestly as someone who is head deep in Honkai lore, I'd say that it's less that Hoyo wouldn't want to do gay shit, instead they want to do lots of it. Especially compared to the straight ships in HI3 (which by the way literally all of the straight ships in HI3 go awry in one way or another).
Don't forget that the offical account Honkai Star Rail on tik tok released an edit with Robin to a song but changing the "he" lyrics to "she" in referencing to the singer singing about a woman and instead of a man. Also can't forget that in Robin's trailer a headline said "Cute girls are in for a surprise with Robin!" And many more small details! Like the moon lesbian flag behind Robin when she jumps. And the lesbian flag traffic(?) lights :)

This might just be me, but I have a strong headcanon that Marth 7th is trans coded. It may just be because I'm transfem lol, but I've noticed a few things about her character that stand out to me: 1. Her color scheme is literally the colors of the trans flag. 2. While she is very happy go lucky and carefree in the present, it's implied she has had a very traumatic past, and that she may have blocked out the memories of which herself as a coping mechanism. It's kind of a stretch, but to me this could be seen as an allegory for pre and post transition, and just being able to live and enjoy the little things in life without being weighed down by living as an inauthentic self. 3. She seems to be the only character that is noticeably self-aware of her own gender and presentation. For example, her talent is called "Girl Power" and her skill is called "The Power of Cuteness". She seems to find a lot of joy in thinking of herself as a cute girl, and honestly same fam ngl lmao. 4. It is a common stereotype that trans women present hyper femme, whether as an attempt to "pass" or to make up for insecurity and years of repressing their femininity. March not only is very femme, but also seems very aware of her "girly-girl" persona, and is happy that she is this way. In fact, sometimes it seems to me like she is intentionally playing up this persona. 5. The lightcones "Day One of My New Life" and "This Is Me!" both feature her. "Day One of My New Life" sounds like a metaphor for rebirth, or leaving your past self/life behind, and reminds me of how difficult and scary it feels to transition, but also how transitioning is like stepping into a new chapter in your life where you can finally be yourself. The description for the "This Is Me!" lightcone talks about March being unsatisfied with her outfits. Eventually, she is content, with the description reading "She thought silently to herself and looked at the girl in the mirror. She looked extra happy on this day." I think the self-awareness and specific mention of her gender is significant, and implies that she is really happy because she loves how "the girl in the mirror" looks. She finishes by saying "Okay! This is me!" 6. I know personally I take A LOT of pictures of myself trying to get ones that I look cute in and feel good about. March loves photography and loves taking selfies, and while she does this because she doesn't want to lose her memories again, it could also be seen as her being self conscious and wanting to make sure she is seen in a way that makes her feel happy about herself. In the description for the "Day One of My New Life" lightcone, it says "We click the shutter many times without thinking. Do we do that to capture the happiness at the moment? Or to capture ourselves at the moment?" To me, this could be interpreted as March doing the latter, and implies that her appearance in pictures is important to her. (same girl lol) 7. VERY LOOSE CONNECTION but International Trans Day of Visibility is in the month of March. There might be more but this is just what came to mind lol. Maybe I'm crazy and reading too much into this, but as a trans person it makes me really happy to see a character that I relate to like this. Personally, given Hoyo's history with queer-coding, I think these comparisons might be intentional. Even if not, it's still a happy accident!

I just played through the Argenti Quest, the one with the weird beetles you have to fight and so on. There he says like a line that maybe hinting at something, but maybe it's just my brain running wild. "It is challenging for me to articulate this phenomenon... yet when I observe certain entities, an indistinct sensation of beauty arises from my core, discernible only by instinct." He acts a little shy when he says that line, maybe there is more to it or I'm just imagining thigs...

Dan Heng has moved on, while Blade doesn't want to let him go, so I see it as one-sided in the present. In regards to Ratiorine, there is a bit more. • The quest centered around Dr. Ratio and Aventurine is called Double Indemnity and you get an OST namend Spellbound as a reward • In Double Indemnity, an insurance agent falls for a married woman and colludes with her to kill her husband, which could parallel Dr. Ratio and Aventurine colluding against Sunday • In Spellbound, the psychoanalyst who fell in love with the patient is called the custodian of truth, while Dr. Ratio's official name in CN means Doctor of Truth. • I also need to mention the Keeping up with Star Rail - Aventurine: Which hand has the coin? video. You play the ball well. ♥". Aha also, despite being THE Elation, has been shown crying because of Akivili, saying "I am so sad, why did you die?". Both Aha and Akivili have been described as the Aeons closest to Humanity/Mortal Emotions also, which is not talked about nearly enough. Aha also enjoys gifting things to Akivili (Like one of their dice, asking then how many faces did it have) and in a snippet from Swarm Disaster it is said that despite everything, you enjoy being tricked by Aha (You being, well, us in Akivili's memories). Aha also knows that they are a simulation, and are well aware of that, referencing it several times and one of them being whem they say they feel like giving Akivili a hug "but they are just an ecuation in the computer". There are several instances like that and despite the SU being, well, a simulation of the Aeons, we can see they are very on par with how the real deal would react. another thing worth mentioning about Blade and Dan Heng is what somewhere in game is says something along the lines of "but this hatred will not last forever" which can be see as Blade's dislike for Dan Heng only being temporary. Along with that at the end of Jinglu's quest you can talk to Blade as Dan heng and can respond with "i will see it through" but the more direct translation from Chinese is closer to 'i will go with you to the end"(which is just such a gay thing to say imo) Both fritzzes and Lalody's Lore have made great videos about them :)))

I want to also call attention to March possibly being lesbian. When Argenti shows up on the Astral Express for the first time she is very irritated by him and can’t wait for him to leave. Argenti is considered canonically beautiful, very obviously meant to be one of those shoujo guys. However, when we see March in penacony she fawns over Robin and later even Siobhan. Sure, maybe her liking Robin can be dismissed as fangirling over an idol. But together with everything I’ve mentioned with Argenti and Siobhan, I think it’s worth thinking about.

Regarding Dan Heng and Blade in the present, in the description for the bracers, there is a part where it says: "...Pairs of objects are destined for an eventual reunion. The long years of grudges and hatred between them should be savoured, like ice-cold aged liquor, one slow sip after another until the bottle of resentment is finally empty. Would the wearer of the other bracer feel the same? The unnamed didn't want to know.”, stating that, the unnamed (Blade), believes that he and the owner of the other bracer (Dan Heng), could eventually reconcile, wondering if Dan Heng would feel the same. Also, this implies he knows who the other wearer is. Another point, Dan Heng remembers Yingxing. In the quest with Jingliu he even says his name when reminded of him. And so in this quest, Dan Heng realizes Blade is who was once Yingxing. At the end of the quest (as Dan Heng) you can interact with Blade and say, "I will see it through". By this he is referring to their "debt" they must repay together, this is also the first time he says anything of the sort to Blade, again he now knows he was Yingxing. But, in other languages Dan Heng supposedly instead says something along the lines of: "I will go with you until the end.". Do with that what you will. I could go on forever about this, especially about how the two share the most danmei tropes and the Chinese mythology references.... I do want to point out something that might be a little nitpicky on my end, but the unity lock side quest was one that stood out to me a quite a bit. Jingzhai didn’t reject Cong specifically because he could never be the same as his past life. She rejected Cong because they had been through the same cycle many times and she didn’t feel capable of loving anymore. Reincarnations of Guyu/Cong fell in love with her every time they met. Eventually her feelings faded for him, which is why she wanted to reject Cong. She didn’t want to continue this one sided cycle of every version of Cong obsessing over someone that can’t reciprocate. She still cares about him, she just doesn’t feel capable of loving him anymore. The quest itself is quite a sad exploration of the love of long lived species and how the ‘I would love you in every universe’ trope doesn’t always work out. Absolutely no hate is meant by this btw, I just didn’t really like how their relationship was kind of portrayed as a negative thing in the video (:
I haven't seen Siobhan mentioned so like, yeah the most obvious lesbian ever is a bartender on Penacony. She's a futch angel that rizzes up March the moment she walks into her bar, is very eager to meet Serval when she's mentioned, and oh yeah a pretty woman shows up and throws a temper tantrum because Siobhan won't "perform on the sage with her" and that makes her life not worth living. Also glad to see my favorite fighter ace turned bureaucrat lesbian fox milf Yukong shouted out. I personally think it's pretty explicit (at least in the english release) that she was romanticly in love with her childhood friend and flying buddy, but Caiyi didn't love her in the same way and was dedicated to her husband and really the Xianzhou cause above all else. Which yeah a story about a gay girl who never gets to tell the love of her life how she feels about her before said love dies in battle leaving her to raise the child said love had with her husband is a bummer of a story, but it's also another case of not coded just queer.

There are also a lot oh hints that blade and Dan Heng will make up(hopefully out) in the future with the text “Pairs of objects are destined for an eventual reunion. There’s a video on yt that explains their relationship pre-1.4. Dan Heng also dreams abt blade in the dreamcall thing in penacony and they also have some content in the anniversary event. Not to be the “as a [minority]” person, but as a lesbian, i think it’s perfectly alright if men find themselves to think robin (or any other lesbian-coded fictional girl) is attractive. You cannot control your orientation or romantic feelings, and it is not a crime to have a little crush, especially if it’s fictional! As long as you realise you can’t change someone’s orientation (in real life) or that fictional crushes will never be real (this applies to anyone, not just men), it’s absolutely cool to think she’s pretty!

im gonna go off on a ratiorine rant here because im super not normal about them and i wanted to share the stuff i personally noticed ingame as well as from trailers (in no specific order) -their darker shirt parts of their designs mirror eachother, with ratio having the top part while aventurine has the bottom one (which is his vest and not a shirt but you get the point) -their color schemes are the exact opposite (the haikaveh effect lmao) -this one is a bit of a stretch because other characters have this too but they both have bird symbolism (especially in their clothing) -furthermore on the clothing thing; the pattern on the cloth on ratio's right shoulder (the one that swoops over to his back) is way more reminiscent of a peacock than an owl -i couldnt find the video for the life of me find the video but theres this bilibili trailer where they have matching chinese nicknames, those being "little peacock" and "little ducky" if i remember correctly -in the recent trailer for the hsr concert aventurine's room having the ruan mei creation cats was a bit weird to me since i dont think aventurine is affiliated with ruan mei so i can only guess ratio brought them in (?) -their bickering in the mainline penacony quests never felt malicious and more teasing(especially because of the EN VA'S' voice deliveries) and came off as especially unnaturally playful from ratio from what i noticed -"then do you trust me?" "depends on you" -aventurine's expression changes into kind of a sad one when ratio suddenly leaves during the scene in the hotel room and his voice turns super hopeful when ratio mentions inviting him to the intelligensia guild -the note aventurine receives from ratio during the cat amongst pigeons quest telling him to stay alive and wishing him the best of luck (something he would never say outright especially with how sarcastic he acts towards him in the quests) -the whole sandpit sequence honestly -the way they glanced at eachother in the cutscene inside sunday's office was pretty fruity -"doctor, you're huge" and "where's that handsome bust of yours" AND "the view here is breathtaking" to which ratio only really replies with silence -both of their voicelines when placed in a team with the other ("look who it is... how about you give me a hand this time, ratio?" 🤨) -ratio refering to aventurine as "our man" in his about aventurine voiceline is pretty silly -the light cone. LORD the light cone. especially the fact that in it's description the word "provocatively" is used -the way ratio acted on owlbert's show (catching up with star rail) being quite literally in denial as well as owlbert saying "i really cant tell what the deal is between you two" i neednt say more (if i remember more stuff i will add them here hehehe)

I feel like, due to the rise in shipping culture and fandom, the term headcanon has replaced interpretation in terms of reading meaning from a text especially when it comes to queerness. The definition of headcanon is something imaginary, made up by a reader entirely and not necessarily requiring evidence or reason behind how it is possible for characters to be doing or partaking in whatever it is the headcanon is about. Yet people label ships like AcherSwan, RenHeng, BronSeele or just Robin being Robin as headcanon or fanon when there are grounds for these ships to be a real interpretation due to the sheer amount of evidence...it's just censorship prevents it from being truly canon like BronSeele in HI3 once was. Like what was said in one of the Genshin videos, it's the language used and the portrayal of these characters that pushes the narrative possibility for these characters to be queer and I'm really tired of people ignoring it or blatantly being homophobic through erasing queer representation. Hoyoverse has a method of queer coding and it is so obvious whenever they do it.
I guess but I think it goes against the spirit civil interpretive debate when people begin attack others based on their interpretations of a text or media. Also, there's good, canonical reasons to believe that Robin is queer. There's not really any evidence that she's straight. And really, if you're a guy who's into Robin, or a person in general who wants to ship her with a man, why not head cannon her as bisexual, which would make more sense? Why does she have to be straight? The insistence that she has to be straight definitely comes across as homophobic to me, not just legitimate differences in interpretation.

(Speaking as an agender person who uses they/them pronouns myself) I feel the Aeons and Pom Pom are referred to as such due to them being Not Human (some overtly revered as deities) and thus not classifiable by (narrow understandings of) human concepts such as gender.

Honestly, what all the HSR ship drama has told me is that fandoms no longer contain whismy. Gone are the days where I can ship the hot evil big bad with some random ass npc that I like for the lols. Can't ship shit if its not canon or wildly accepted fanon. Like I thought the robinhill dynamic was cute, same with the naviahill one. They're cute funny little ships, but seeing the comments of some of these posts were just mood ruining. On one end, there's the extreme homophobia side, where they say some degenerate stuff about robin just because she's gay, but on the other is extreme misandry. I read SO many comments about getting Robin away from this "disgusting man" and "I'm so sorry for her having to talk to these men." Like, I just like the funny little Itto x Ei crack ship cause of a fanfic I read once, but I know for a fact if some cute fanart was posted about them, that post would be flamed. It just feels like fandoms these days are just meaner then they used to be.
Yeah, Robinhill is cute as a silly crack ship, but it's really disheartening to see the sheer amount of homophobia and sexism coming from some robinhill shippers. Yeah, I think that it'd be super hard to deny the existence of queer coding in Hoyo games. But the biggest problem I see is more of a "going in circles" effect when bringing up perceived sexuality at all. The number 1 thing as fans of the game we should be trying to achieve is to make the community a fun environment for everyone. Memeing around, having a laugh and sharing in our joy for the game/characters together. The big issue comes with statements like these: "X character is obviously gay/lesbian/bi, has queer coding and therefore nobody is allowed to depict, or talk, theorize or headcanon them in a different way." And likewise, "I'm not gay/les/bi and therefore if I see you talking about it I'm going to be hateful, spiteful etc." Both of these opposite ends are just as bad as each other, both are oppressive, obnoxious and idiotic. But it's like we feel compelled to defend ourselves and our point of view when we see them, which ends up in a vicious circle until we end up with really disgusting behavior (harassing VA's, posting revolting statements on twitter etc). Enjoy the game how you want to, don't force your viewpoint on others or belittle others for not sharing them, irregardless of how much 'evidence' there is this way or that. Be kind, be loving, ignore those who aren't, and enjoy the game together.

I feel like Robin's queer coding is mainly coincidence. The makeup colors under her eye along with the colors of her eyes themselves are all the exact same colors of different Robin's (the bird) stomachs that exist in real life. Also, it's missing two of the colors of the lesbian flag, which is something I feel is worth mentioning. The Emily Dickenson references COULd mean something, or it could just be that someone on the team likes Emily Dickenson lol. I don't think it's reaching, but I am inclined to disagree with it. most of the ratiorine (most ppl have come to cut the names slightly differently avoid the raturine thing,,,, still love raturine tho its so funny) content (as of 2.2), final victor lightcone aside (though in addition to what u said, it's worth noting that the lightcone description says that aven is looking at ratio "provocatively"), is entirely buried in the penacony quest dialogue. aventurine calling ratio huge and asking where his "handsome bust" is aside, the rest is all rather subtle. its explicitly stated that aventurine had planned for ratio to "betray" him and tell sunday abt the (false) location of his cornerstone, and ratio more or less says he only "betrayed" aventurine bc he knew that was aven's plan (it’s also worth noting that, during the meeting with sunday and the “betrayal”, ratio is unable to meet aven’s eyes, looking away every time that aven looks over at him, possibly out of guilt), and once aven is afflicted with the curse of harmony, ratio seems to care at least a bit, contrasting the whole "too bad you survived the sandpit" and "i'd gladly squash you" thing he was doing a second ago. basically, most ppl have come to believe that aven and ratio have been exaggerating the idea that they don't trust each other and that ratio can't stand aventurine ever since they got on penacony to fool the family, who have eyes everywhere, so that sunday would try and get ratio to betray aven, according to the plan. therefore, esp bc of the "do stay alive" note (since that would have been outside the family's prying eyes) and the "let me know if you can't hold on any longer" line, ppl have surmised that they're maybe closer than they've presented themselves to be, or that ratio at least doesn't really dislike aven. in addition, the "future" aven mentions that he is "especially fond of what [aven and ratio] have in common", citing the complicated plan and a "magnificent act of betrayal". aven wonders if ratio was really acting, and that combined with the seemingly genuine upset right when they leave the dewlight pavilion (smth abt "i'm surprised you had the nerve to show yourself") and aven's oddly sad expression and tone at the end of their first conversation, when ratio vanishes and aven wonders aloud if he really disdains him that much, might lead one to believe that aven was hoping ratio wouldn't choose to "betray" him, even if that were the plan, or that he does believe that ratio may actually harbour this much disdain for him and that he's not really having to act, which upsets him. basically you have to be super galaxy-brained with ur analysis to draw much of a conclusion abt any ratiorine evidence, and all that's really there atm is the implication that aven at least finds ratio hot, maybe even likes him and wishes he were a little nicer to him, and ratio actually caring abt aven's life even if he seemed like he otherwise did not. That and maybe the "dear gambler" nickname is a little fruity no matter how sarcastic your tone is. i do hope we get smth in 2.3 bc aven just got back from the dreamscape and ratio didn't really appear at all in 2.2 so nothing much happened then. EDIT TO ADD: idk how i forgot but aven's keeping up with star rail episode was kinda crazy,,,, he personally requested ratio be the one to do his episode, and ratio somehow is the only one with a custom couch, presumably brought in by aven/on aven's behalf, since in the lore, keeping up with star rail is run by the IPC. throughout the episode, ratio makes a few sarcastic remarks about aven and mentions how he "keeps telling him that his flashy clothes only make his job harder", implying they've interacted enough that he's brought this up multiple times. it's also worth noting that he says this immediately after owlbert calls aventurine's appearance "gorgeous" and ratio doesn't deny this, only, like i said, saying he dresses too flashily (why do you care, ratio,,,,,,). at the start of the episode, owlbert introduces ratio as aven's "good friend", which ratio denies but says he is "not awful to work with". owlbert counters that this means "outstanding" in ratio's book, which ratio denies again. the main thing comes at the end, when owlbert says that there's mutual respect between ratio and aventurine, which thoroughly shocks ratio, who asks "mutual? what did he say about me?" which a) implies that ratio DOES respect aventurine, as he's asking AVEN'S opinion on HIM to confirm if the respect is mutual and b) heehee he wants to know if aven liiiikes him haha loser. owlbert tells ratio that aven recommended him for the show, as he thinks only ratio can explain his combat style well enough. ratio goes full tsundere and acts like this is preposterous, and owlbert continues, saying that aven knew ratio would vigourously deny this but wouldn't have come if he didn't understand his abilities. ratio actually gets flustered and stutters some excuse for coming on the show, and owlbert says "i really don't get what the deal is between you two" and the segment ends. EDIT TO ADD AGAIN: oh! also in the concert trailer, we see aven with three of ruan mei's cat cakes (they're all black cats,,,, bc aven's luck offsets the superstition,,,,,), and since we've never heard of or seen an instance of aven going to herta space station, lots of ppl also like the thought that ratio brought them back from the space station, since he's one of the few ppl who was at the space station and aware of ruan mei's experiments. not sure how canon a concert announcement can be but aww they're cat dads,,, EDIT AGAIN POST 2.3 LIVESTREAM: in the jp stream, they had ratio as one of the guests (the en stream had acheron instead) and they announced divergent universe, a new simulated universe version. ratio apparently helped design this one, and one of the new domain types has like slot machines and other games of chance/gambling minigames (this domain even has a cat cake symbol to represent it,,,,). ratio even says something along the lines of “I bet a certain gambler will be excited to try it out” which insinuates that he may have been the one to suggest this mechanic and he was thinking of aventurine when he did,,,, insane considering how he acted like he hates gambling in the trailblaze quest and the keeping up with star rail episode. Owlbert also apparently calls ratio out for imitating “that blonde executive” in the same livestream.
Ya know, I love how often queer naysayers claim queer-implied representation is reaching, but will often go crazier over minute details hinting at straight relationships that are more easily said "Uh... what?" I've legit seen dozens of these kinds of naysayers point at two abstract details in various medium and go "LOOK! THIS PROVES THE GUY AND GIRL LIKE EACH OTHER!", like staring at each other for long periods of time, while also saying two people of the same sex doing the same thing is just "Awkward friendship".

The exception is Dr. Ratio it seems. When Dr. Ratio wakes Aventurine from his nightmare at the bar Aventurine asks, clearly nervous, if Ratio thinks the plan will work, showing his true self for only a moment. • Dr. Ratio has only apologised for his snarky comments to one person and that was Aventurine. • Aventurine and Dr. Ratio must trust eachother a lot if they're willing to fake a whole betrayal. They know that to an outsider they look very hostile towards eachother and they used that to their advantage to trick Sunday. It is a life or death situation and the plan had to work perfectly. • THE KEEPING UP WITH STAR RAIL VIDEO OF AVENTURINE. LIKE. I'M SORRY?????????? That whole video... "What did say about me?" Ratio... Ratio please... Why did you sound so desperate to know Ratio... The way Aventurine made the man have a breakdown on live TV while not being present was glorious. But I will comment on the whole hilarious banter between them on that section. Like when Aventurine is going around the miniature Golden Hour, sees (big) Ratio and tells him "Doctor, you should come here snd take a look. The view here is _breathtaking _ ~ Honestly, you could squash me with just a pinch." and Dr. Ratio responds "If thatis your I will do it without a moment's hesitation."... Like. Ok man. Note: some of the sentences between quotes are paraphrasing. I checked some of them but I recommend verifying at least the comments about eachother on their character voice lines list.
Woah, your video actually helped me understand some of these ships, specially Blade x Dan Heng. Unfortunately at how confusing and hidden the lore of Luofu was I didn't even fully understood the relationship between these two lol I thought Blade just had a beef with Dan Heng and people were just shipping because of commonly seen dynamic tropes in fiction. Funny to see how I quickly changed my attitude over a ship I used to dislike for no actual reason than not knowing their lore.
I remember when I first encountered Honkai Star Rail. It was around the 1.3 update that I started playing. When I saw that Blade was trying to “kill” Dan Heng (I use quotation marks since we found out that Blade was following the script), I was super confused why people shipped them. Then I looked into it and suddenly it all made sense. I didn’t think there would be actual lore that supports it.

Helloooo I'd like to point out there are a couple of romance movies/novels references in Ratio & Aventurine's dynamic (their quest name is Double Indemnity, having a lot of parallels with what's happening in the movie, including the Final Victor lightcone, which is a BIG reference to the final scene in the movie, even mentioning exactly 3 shots). They also referenced Oscar Wilde's Happy Prince in relation to Aventurine in 2.1, which, again, queer writer queer story, which ALSO has quite some parallels to Ratio, who ALSO has an Oscar Wilde reference in his character profile, quoting one of his famous lines.

A lot of places have capitalised they/them pronouns in game as of recent updates. I took a break from the game for a couple updates and came back in 2.0, and not only are the aeons’ pronouns capitalised, a lot of other instances of neutral pronouns being used are. Like the limited ticket gacha item (red and gold one) says something along the lines of “got a friend you want to visit? Come see the world with him/her/it/THEM”. And them is the only one capitalised. Does it mean it’s referring to visiting an aeon? Or are nonbinary people in hsr the equivalent of gods? Who knows.

moreover I'd like to add that in the very few entries in the data bank where they actually use pronouns for the aeons in chinese, it is always the supposedly gender neutral 祂. 祂 is typically only used in the context of referencing god as in like capital g god. the big man upstairs, jesus's pops- you get the point. while English uses a gendered pronoun for god chinese doesn't (side note here, I am not sure if 祂 is gendered or not, because it is a whole nother category than 他 - he 她 - she 牠 - referring to animals exclusively, and 它 - referring to objects only.) so the aeons are also gender neutral in chinese.

Different ways to interpret it bc Aventurine just seems naturally Zesty (I hate that about him tbh. He just likes to zest and fruit about) but Hoyoverse makes lesbians canon in Honkai Impact 3rd so it's not like they haven't done it b4. They like to make implications that everyone is on the bi scale so whether or not they like the MC, it's less work to make hundreds of changes for each gender. Genshin is so much more clearer in this with how several characters will either admit to liking the traveler enough to be their partner or marry them. Mostly the girls bc I hardly ever see or notice male characters leaning affection on us (maybe Hoyo isn't there yet) but it's not hard to see what they do.

Here to add additional details to Dan Heng/Blade's story, if I recall correctly we learn through implication and Jingliu telling us (as well as some suss diaolgue about Bailu that I will detail when relevant) that what happened with Dan Feng and Yingxing was after Baiheng's death, they took the corpse of the Abundance Monstrosity and used it's never ending life essence with Dan Feng's vidyadhara blood to reincarnate Baiheng as a vidyadhara. Unfortunately, during this Yingxing was, effectively infected by the monstrosities un-ending life essence, and that corrupted him and turned him into a mara-struck immortal, the only reason he can function as a regular person is because Kafka has the Spirit-Whisper ability and can repress it's effects, sort of like how Jingliu does it. Now onto Bailu, from my understanding, the entirety of Jingliu's story quest is her going around and visiting with all of her friends from the High Cloud Quintet, and strangely enough, there is a decent chunk of story dedicated to her visiting Bailu, and Bailu being like, "Yo girlie your health is all sorts of fucked, here let me make you a medicine."
From what I know of Bailu's lore and story, despite being the next High Elder of the Vidyadhara, Bailu does not dream, which is super weird and strange and the other elders don't really understand what the hell is going on. However, when she visits the Astral Express, she finally dreams, and she dreams of flying in some sort of device super high up. We also know that Baiheng was a Pilot, like Yukong. Also at the end of the story quest, when Dan Heng is saying goodbye to everyone, he has a long walk and chat with Bailu, and it's through this that Bailu is able to inherit some of the abilities of the High Elder, and it requires both Dan Heng AND Bailu to do... something. I forgot exactly what happens but I remember witnessing this event. So, some speculate, though I feel it is heavily implied, that the event that catalyzed all of the drama and caused Blade to get mara-struck, and Dan Feng to be forcefully reincarnated, was a ritual done after Baiheng's death to reincarnate her as Bailu.

I also want to say that Blade doesn't remember not because of becoming immortal, but because after Jingliu had to kill the abomination her basically wife became she hunted Yingxing down and killed him over and over and over again. She tortured her own ethos into him, making him forget his past and his affect with Dan Feng and to hate him and believe his death will free him from her torment. "Of five, three shall pay a price" isn't Blade's own ethos, it's her's.
Also E didn't talk about it but Jingliu and Baiheng were every bit as gay together as Yingxing and Danfeng. The High Cloud Quintent was nothing but tragic gays and Jingliu's adopted son Jing Yuan was just there for the ride.

And she has to be young, since no one is going nuts over the fact she's still a child, and if bailu was 700 yo someone would be concerned right?
Some other examples of potential queercoding I'd like to point out:
1. In Robin's demo, she dances with two other NPC women. Considering how Honkai Star Rail used dancing with Black Swan and Acheron to symbolize a homoerotic relationship, this made me raise an eyebrow
2. when we first meet her she looks at March (who's fangirling super damn hard, real) and says "I never thought a cutie like yourself would be a fan of mine". Definitely holds less water but paired with everything else, it also makes me raise an eyebrow.
On another note, I gotta ask those who believe she's straight- what's the evidence? Genuinely.

Since replying to specific comments will prove useless as I know how you people are, I'll just state my counterpoints here:
1. 'The colors under her eye represent Xipe': This is frankly a very weak argument. The halo around Xipe's head consists of the ENTIRE rainbow + white. If the dots under Robin's eye were supposed to represent this rainbow halo, it would not be two warm colors and white. Trying to deny the colors don't 'match' any flag (the lesbian flag) is just that- denial. HoyoVerse doesn't do coincidences, we can clearly see it in how their storytelling is done, especially with Penacony. A multi-million dollar cooperation who NEEDS to take careful consideration of every detail on their characters- since it's where they get profit from- would have certainly seen what the colors under her eye could be referring to, and changed it. But they didn't.
2.'Her sexual orientation is inconsequential': Nice job for pointing that out, that's how it is with most characters in non-romance stories on a surface level. However, even if things are inconsequential to the story, evidence of it can still exist and is not immediately discredited. Character depth!
3.'I don't like how people are attacking others over headcanons': Great, I agree! That's irrelevant to my comment, though.

I’m fine if she is lesbian but I don’t like that people where attacking others over not sharing the same headcanon. The evidence is also pretty subtle like you can get it if you really read into it but like it’s not something people are going to immediately connect like my eyesight’s kinda bad so, until I zoomed in to verify the dot colors I could not tell since I only really saw the vague shade. I think people should just be more civil about it and not force their canons onto other people or attack people who don’t agree with their headcanon and this goes both ways
At the end of the day, the people who look for queer coding in these games are not doing anything wrong. As long as people (in general) are not assholes and insist there is only one way to view a character or situation, we should all be able to have fun with our different interpretations.

also 2 more things i wanna add about bronseele bcs i just love them sm
1. their e6 arts parallel each other. bronya has her back turned and is facing the right with her eyes closed, while seele is doing the exact same thing but looking to the left instead.
2. this one might be more of a reach, but i think the character trope/archetype hoyo decided to place these two in is pretty intentional. the “rich and privileged but is actually naive” x the “poor and thorny exterior who secretly has a heart of gold” is a VERY popular romance trope imo and very rarely do i see this rich x poor ship dynamic being portrayed in anything other than a romantic light. so i think the fact that they purposefully put bronya in that “rich and naive” role and seele in the “poor but has a good heart” sets them up as a romantic pairing even more, especially considering that their dynamic in hi3 was nowhere like that anyways. they could’ve made them more sibling-like or already close friends to mimic how they were in hi3 but they didn’t. again maybe i’m just reaching bcs i absolutely love this ship but it’s something i couldn’t help but notice. anyways long live the gays in my hoyoverse games

Actually the whole Overworld (privileged) and Underworld (unprivileged) really reminded me of Arcane, but I think the way both relationships are developed is similar, and in Arcane's case it's even more obvious that Vi and Caitlyn develop a romantic relationship, so yeah I really like that dynamic

I'm very curious where you saw an on screen gay wedding in a miHoYo game. Or an on screen kiss in the game. Kiana and Mei in HI3 and Bronya and Seele in HI3 and Star Rail have never kissed in game. No one's been married. There was a Bronya and Seele kiss in the backstory manga Azure Waters, and there is an implies but not explicitly shown Kallen and Sakura kiss in an episode of Cooking with Valkyries. Meanwhile not a single character in any game is explicitly gay (as in, not bi) and several are explicitly straight.

I think the discourse comes from how VASTLY different HI3 is to HSR. They handle ships different too because the original Bronselee ship was created back when Hoyo could easily get away with doing ships like that. There's like a thousand ships in Honkai Impact, gay or otherwise. Honkai Impact afford to be more bold with sesbian lex and ships. I think in a sense HSR is the same with GI where they can't afford to "confirm" ships due to the fact that not only would the fandom go rampant if ships became canon, but again because CCP censorship they had to be more subtle. That said I'd like to think the Bronseele present in HSR is more of either a homage or just fanservice for HI3 fans playing HSR.

That said when a character is being queer coded like that (like Bronseele for example), ships that they want to do (aka they want to have canonized but can't because CCP) will be more obvious than others. Like again, Bronseele. I'm a veteran Honkai player who has decent lore knowledge, and the gay ships in that game are RAMPANT. I believe the same would hold true in their other games, if it was created when Hoyo was not so popular.
That's also another factor, HI3 as a game is significantly less popular than GI or HSR. With more eyes scrutinising their work, they run an event greater risk if they tried to make ships as obvious as they do in HI3. I mean I highly doubt we'll ever see characters kiss at all in HSR.
Honestly as someone who is head deep in Honkai lore, I'd say that it's less that Hoyo wouldn't want to do gay shit, instead they want to do lots of it. Especially compared to the straight ships in HI3 (which by the way literally all of the straight ships in HI3 go awry in one way or another).

This might just be me, but I have a strong headcanon that Marth 7th is trans coded. It may just be because I'm transfem lol, but I've noticed a few things about her character that stand out to me:
1. Her color scheme is literally the colors of the trans flag.
2. While she is very happy go lucky and carefree in the present, it's implied she has had a very traumatic past, and that she may have blocked out the memories of which herself as a coping mechanism. It's kind of a stretch, but to me this could be seen as an allegory for pre and post transition, and just being able to live and enjoy the little things in life without being weighed down by living as an inauthentic self.
3. She seems to be the only character that is noticeably self-aware of her own gender and presentation. For example, her talent is called "Girl Power" and her skill is called "The Power of Cuteness". She seems to find a lot of joy in thinking of herself as a cute girl, and honestly same fam ngl lmao.
4. It is a common stereotype that trans women present hyper femme, whether as an attempt to "pass" or to make up for insecurity and years of repressing their femininity. March not only is very femme, but also seems very aware of her "girly-girl" persona, and is happy that she is this way. In fact, sometimes it seems to me like she is intentionally playing up this persona.
5. The lightcones "Day One of My New Life" and "This Is Me!" both feature her. "Day One of My New Life" sounds like a metaphor for rebirth, or leaving your past self/life behind, and reminds me of how difficult and scary it feels to transition, but also how transitioning is like stepping into a new chapter in your life where you can finally be yourself. The description for the "This Is Me!" lightcone talks about March being unsatisfied with her outfits. Eventually, she is content, with the description reading "She thought silently to herself and looked at the girl in the mirror. She looked extra happy on this day." I think the self-awareness and specific mention of her gender is significant, and implies that she is really happy because she loves how "the girl in the mirror" looks. She finishes by saying "Okay! This is me!"
6. I know personally I take A LOT of pictures of myself trying to get ones that I look cute in and feel good about. March loves photography and loves taking selfies, and while she does this because she doesn't want to lose her memories again, it could also be seen as her being self conscious and wanting to make sure she is seen in a way that makes her feel happy about herself. In the description for the "Day One of My New Life" lightcone, it says "We click the shutter many times without thinking. Do we do that to capture the happiness at the moment? Or to capture ourselves at the moment?" To me, this could be interpreted as March doing the latter, and implies that her appearance in pictures is important to her. (same girl lol)
7. VERY LOOSE CONNECTION but International Trans Day of Visibility is in the month of March.
There might be more but this is just what came to mind lol. Maybe I'm crazy and reading too much into this, but as a trans person it makes me really happy to see a character that I relate to like this. Personally, given Hoyo's history with queer-coding, I think these comparisons might be intentional. Even if not, it's still a happy accident!

In regards to Renheng, I see it more as a heavily implied romantic past. Dan Heng has moved on, while Blade doesn't want to let him go, so I see it as one-sided in the present.
In regards to Ratiorine, there is a bit more.
• The quest centered around Dr. Ratio and Aventurine is called Double Indemnity and you get an OST namend Spellbound as a reward
• In Double Indemnity, an insurance agent falls for a married woman and colludes with her to kill her husband, which could parallel Dr. Ratio and Aventurine colluding against Sunday
• In Spellbound, the psychoanalyst who fell in love with the patient is called the custodian of truth, while Dr. Ratio's official name in CN means Doctor of Truth.
• I also need to mention the Keeping up with Star Rail - Aventurine: Which hand has the coin? video. Dr. Ratio acts like a tsundere in it😂

@@ro5h088 I have more things said on my twitter but tbh one of the biggest pieces is that the only emoji that I have seen inside a text has been from Aha to Akivili (Us in the SU) and it was in the phrase "Hi, Akivili! You play the ball well. ♥". Aha also, despite being THE Elation, has been shown crying because of Akivili, saying "I am so sad, why did you die?". Both Aha and Akivili have been described as the Aeons closest to Humanity/Mortal Emotions also, which is not talked about nearly enough. Aha also enjoys gifting things to Akivili (Like one of their dice, asking then how many faces did it have) and in a snippet from Swarm Disaster it is said that despite everything, you enjoy being tricked by Aha (You being, well, us in Akivili's memories). Aha also knows that they are a simulation, and are well aware of that, referencing it several times and one of them being whem they say they feel like giving Akivili a hug "but they are just an ecuation in the computer". There are several instances like that and despite the SU being, well, a simulation of the Aeons, we can see they are very on par with how the real deal would react. Also Aha almost unalives us after making it clear they knew we were "the fake Akivili" 💀, whereas in one of the Closed Betas, there was a text of Aha asking if "We were really alive or if it was a fatal joke", I thought they meant fatal to them but it was to US lmfao. but also even outside the simuni, in almost every instance where Akivili is mentioned, Aha is also mentioned very closely, and even in Akivili's dream we have an option to say that "It was a very Elated set of actions". Again, there are more things but I feel I talked extensively already 🤣

another thing worth mentioning about Blade and Dan Heng is what somewhere in game is says something along the lines of "but this hatred will not last forever" which can be see as Blade's dislike for Dan Heng only being temporary. Along with that at the end of Jinglu's quest you can talk to Blade as Dan heng and can respond with "i will see it through" but the more direct translation from Chinese is closer to 'i will go with you to the end"(which is just such a gay thing to say imo) Both fritzzes and Lalody's Lore have made great videos about them :)))

Regarding Dan Heng and Blade in the present, in the description for the bracers, there is a part where it says: "...Pairs of objects are destined for an eventual reunion. The long years of grudges and hatred between them should be savoured, like ice-cold aged liquor, one slow sip after another until the bottle of resentment is finally empty.
Would the wearer of the other bracer feel the same? The unnamed didn't want to know.”, stating that, the unnamed (Blade), believes that he and the owner of the other bracer (Dan Heng), could eventually reconcile, wondering if Dan Heng would feel the same. Also, this implies he knows who the other wearer is.
Another point, Dan Heng remembers Yingxing. In the quest with Jingliu he even says his name when reminded of him. And so in this quest, Dan Heng realizes Blade is who was once Yingxing.
At the end of the quest (as Dan Heng) you can interact with Blade and say, "I will see it through". By this he is referring to their "debt" they must repay together, this is also the first time he says anything of the sort to Blade, again he now knows he was Yingxing. But, in other languages Dan Heng supposedly instead says something along the lines of: "I will go with you until the end.". Do with that what you will.
I could go on forever about this, especially about how the two share the most danmei tropes and the Chinese mythology references....

I do want to point out something that might be a little nitpicky on my end, but the unity lock side quest was one that stood out to me a quite a bit.
Jingzhai didn’t reject Cong specifically because he could never be the same as his past life. She rejected Cong because they had been through the same cycle many times and she didn’t feel capable of loving anymore. Reincarnations of Guyu/Cong fell in love with her every time they met. Eventually her feelings faded for him, which is why she wanted to reject Cong. She didn’t want to continue this one sided cycle of every version of Cong obsessing over someone that can’t reciprocate. She still cares about him, she just doesn’t feel capable of loving him anymore.
The quest itself is quite a sad exploration of the love of long lived species and how the ‘I would love you in every universe’ trope doesn’t always work out.
Absolutely no hate is meant by this btw, I just didn’t really like how their relationship was kind of portrayed as a negative thing in the video (:

She's a futch angel that rizzes up March the moment she walks into her bar, is very eager to meet Serval when she's mentioned, and oh yeah a pretty woman shows up and throws a temper tantrum because Siobhan won't "perform on the sage with her" and that makes her life not worth living. Also glad to see my favorite fighter ace turned bureaucrat lesbian fox milf Yukong shouted out. I personally think it's pretty explicit (at least in the english release) that she was romanticly in love with her childhood friend and flying buddy, but Caiyi didn't love her in the same way and was dedicated to her husband and really the Xianzhou cause above all else. Which yeah a story about a gay girl who never gets to tell the love of her life how she feels about her before said love dies in battle leaving her to raise the child said love had with her husband is a bummer of a story, but it's also another case of not coded just queer.

I feel like, due to the rise in shipping culture and fandom, the term headcanon has replaced interpretation in terms of reading meaning from a text especially when it comes to queerness. The definition of headcanon is something imaginary, made up by a reader entirely and not necessarily requiring evidence or reason behind how it is possible for characters to be doing or partaking in whatever it is the headcanon is about. Yet people label ships like AcherSwan, RenHeng, BronSeele or just Robin being Robin as headcanon or fanon when there are grounds for these ships to be a real interpretation due to the sheer amount of evidence...it's just censorship prevents it from being truly canon like BronSeele in HI3 once was. Like what was said in one of the Genshin videos, it's the language used and the portrayal of these characters that pushes the narrative possibility for these characters to be queer and I'm really tired of people ignoring it or blatantly being homophobic through erasing queer representation. Hoyoverse has a method of queer coding and it is so obvious whenever they do it.
I guess but I think it goes against the spirit civil interpretive debate when people begin attack others based on their interpretations of a text or media. I mean asking civility from twitter is a losing battle but I wish both sides would be willing to be a bit more respectful in their discourse of their personal interpretations

Why does she have to be straight? The insistence that she has to be straight definitely comes across as homophobic to me, not just legitimate differences in interpretation.

Honestly, what all the HSR ship drama has told me is that fandoms no longer contain whismy. Gone are the days where I can ship the hot evil big bad with some random ass npc that I like for the lols. Yeah, I think that it'd be super hard to deny the existence of queer coding in Hoyo games. But the biggest problem I see is more of a "going in circles" effect when bringing up perceived sexuality at all.
The number 1 thing as fans of the game we should be trying to achieve is to make the community a fun environment for everyone. Memeing around, having a laugh and sharing in our joy for the game/characters together.
The big issue comes with statements like these: "X character is obviously gay/lesbian/bi, has queer coding and therefore nobody is allowed to depict, or talk, theorize or headcanon them in a different way." And likewise, "I'm not gay/les/bi and therefore if I see you talking about it I'm going to be hateful, spiteful etc." Both of these opposite ends are just as bad as each other, both are oppressive, obnoxious and idiotic. But it's like we feel compelled to defend ourselves and our point of view when we see them, which ends up in a vicious circle until we end up with really disgusting behavior (harassing VA's, posting revolting statements on twitter etc).
Enjoy the game how you want to, don't force your viewpoint on others or belittle others for not sharing them, irregardless of how much 'evidence' there is this way or that. Be kind, be loving, ignore those who aren't, and enjoy the game together.

I feel like Robin's queer coding is mainly coincidence. The makeup colors under her eye along with the colors of her eyes themselves are all the exact same colors of different Robin's (the bird) stomachs that exist in real life. Also, it's missing two of the colors of the lesbian flag, which is something I feel is worth mentioning. The Emily Dickenson references COULd mean something, or it could just be that someone on the team likes Emily Dickenson lol. I don't think it's reaching, but I am inclined to disagree with it. most of the ratiorine (most ppl have come to cut the names slightly differently avoid the raturine thing,,,, still love raturine tho its so funny) content (as of 2.2), final victor lightcone aside (though in addition to what u said, it's worth noting that the lightcone description says that aven is looking at ratio "provocatively"), is entirely buried in the penacony quest dialogue. aventurine calling ratio huge and asking where his "handsome bust" is aside, the rest is all rather subtle. its explicitly stated that aventurine had planned for ratio to "betray" him and tell sunday abt the (false) location of his cornerstone, and ratio more or less says he only "betrayed" aventurine bc he knew that was aven's plan (it’s also worth noting that, during the meeting with sunday and the “betrayal”, ratio is unable to meet aven’s eyes, looking away every time that aven looks over at him, possibly out of guilt), and once aven is afflicted with the curse of harmony, ratio seems to care at least a bit, contrasting the whole "too bad you survived the sandpit" and "i'd gladly squash you" thing he was doing a second ago. basically, most ppl have come to believe that aven and ratio have been exaggerating the idea that they don't trust each other and that ratio can't stand aventurine ever since they got on penacony to fool the family, who have eyes everywhere, so that sunday would try and get ratio to betray aven, according to the plan. therefore, esp bc of the "do stay alive" note (since that would have been outside the family's prying eyes) and the "let me know if you can't hold on any longer" line, ppl have surmised that they're maybe closer than they've presented themselves to be, or that ratio at least doesn't really dislike aven. in addition, the "future" aven mentions that he is "especially fond of what [aven and ratio] have in common", citing the complicated plan and a "magnificent act of betrayal". aven wonders if ratio was really acting, and that combined with the seemingly genuine upset right when they leave the dewlight pavilion (smth abt "i'm surprised you had the nerve to show yourself") and aven's oddly sad expression and tone at the end of their first conversation, when ratio vanishes and aven wonders aloud if he really disdains him that much, might lead one to believe that aven was hoping ratio wouldn't choose to "betray" him, even if that were the plan, or that he does believe that ratio may actually harbour this much disdain for him and that he's not really having to act, which upsets him. basically you have to be super galaxy-brained with ur analysis to draw much of a conclusion abt any ratiorine evidence, and all that's really there atm is the implication that aven at least finds ratio hot, maybe even likes him and wishes he were a little nicer to him, and ratio actually caring abt aven's life even if he seemed like he otherwise did not. EDIT TO ADD: idk how i forgot but aven's keeping up with star rail episode was kinda crazy,,,, he personally requested ratio be the one to do his episode, and ratio somehow is the only one with a custom couch, presumably brought in by aven/on aven's behalf, since in the lore, keeping up with star rail is run by the IPC. throughout the episode, ratio makes a few sarcastic remarks about aven and mentions how he "keeps telling him that his flashy clothes only make his job harder", implying they've interacted enough that he's brought this up multiple times. it's also worth noting that he says this immediately after owlbert calls aventurine's appearance "gorgeous" and ratio doesn't deny this, only, like i said, saying he dresses too flashily (why do you care, ratio,,,,,,). at the start of the episode, owlbert introduces ratio as aven's "good friend", which ratio denies but says he is "not awful to work with". owlbert counters that this means "outstanding" in ratio's book, which ratio denies again. the main thing comes at the end, when owlbert says that there's mutual respect between ratio and aventurine, which thoroughly shocks ratio, who asks "mutual? what did he say about me?" which a) implies that ratio DOES respect aventurine, as he's asking AVEN'S opinion on HIM to confirm if the respect is mutual and b) heehee he wants to know if aven liiiikes him haha loser. owlbert tells ratio that aven recommended him for the show, as he thinks only ratio can explain his combat style well enough. ratio goes full tsundere and acts like this is preposterous, and owlbert continues, saying that aven knew ratio would vigourously deny this but wouldn't have come if he didn't understand his abilities. ratio actually gets flustered and stutters some excuse for coming on the show, and owlbert says "i really don't get what the deal is between you two" and the segment ends.
EDIT TO ADD AGAIN: oh! also in the concert trailer, we see aven with three of ruan mei's cat cakes (they're all black cats,,,, bc aven's luck offsets the superstition,,,,,), and since we've never heard of or seen an instance of aven going to herta space station, lots of ppl also like the thought that ratio brought them back from the space station, since he's one of the few ppl who was at the space station and aware of ruan mei's experiments. not sure how canon a concert announcement can be but aww they're cat dads,,,
EDIT AGAIN POST 2.3 LIVESTREAM: in the jp stream, they had ratio as one of the guests (the en stream had acheron instead) and they announced divergent universe, a new simulated universe version. ratio apparently helped design this one, and one of the new domain types has like slot machines and other games of chance/gambling minigames (this domain even has a cat cake symbol to represent it,,,,). ratio even says something along the lines of “I bet a certain gambler will be excited to try it out” which insinuates that he may have been the one to suggest this mechanic and he was thinking of aventurine when he did,,,, insane considering how he acted like he hates gambling in the trailblaze quest and the keeping up with star rail episode. Owlbert also apparently calls ratio out for imitating “that blonde executive” in the same livestream.
Ya know, I love how often queer naysayers claim queer-implied representation is reaching, but will often go crazier over minute details hinting at straight relationships that are more easily said "Uh... what?" I've legit seen dozens of these kinds of naysayers point at two abstract details in various medium and go "LOOK! THIS PROVES THE GUY AND GIRL LIKE EACH OTHER!", like staring at each other for long periods of time, while also saying two people of the same sex doing the same thing is just "Awkward friendship".

Ok. Ok. Aventurine and Ratio have WAY more than the light cone:
• "Where's that handsome bust of yours~?" No comment.
• When I give a message to my bro for him to read in his final moments and half of the message is just "I don't want you to die".
• Aventurine never shows his insecurities to anyone, using a mask of false bravado. The exception is Dr. Ratio it seems. When Dr. Ratio wakes Aventurine from his nightmare at the bar Aventurine asks, clearly nervous, if Ratio thinks the plan will work, showing his true self for only a moment.
• Dr. Ratio has only apologised for his snarky comments to one person and that was Aventurine.
• Aventurine and Dr. Ratio must trust eachother a lot if they're willing to fake a whole betrayal. They know that to an outsider they look very hostile towards eachother and they used that to their advantage to trick Sunday. It is a life or death situation and the plan had to work perfectly.
• THE KEEPING UP WITH STAR RAIL VIDEO OF AVENTURINE. LIKE. I'M SORRY?????????? That whole video... "What did say about me?" Ratio... Ratio please... Why did you sound so desperate to know Ratio... The way Aventurine made the man have a breakdown on live TV while not being present was glorious. Also Owlbert's "I really don't know what's the deal between you two". Just. Just watch it. There's literally no heterosexual explanation for that video. (Also if I remember correctly the CN Instagram or something posted a little video of chibi Dr. Ratio having little Aventurine chibis going around his head like he can't get himself rid of him. Very cute)
• Aventurine, on talking about Ratio, says he thinks Ratio hates him but acknowledges that he himself is still the IPC personnel Dr. Ratio talks with the most. Aventurine believes it's because "he's a bettet conversationalist than everyone else".
• Dr. Ratio on the other hand seems to have a deep understanding for Aventurine has on the dialogue about him Ratio seems to be clearly aware of Aventurine's... Suicidal tendencies. He also is the only one to recognise that most of Aventurine's success isn't luck but very careful planning.
• I'm not gonna comment on the "Doctor, you're huge!" But I will comment on the whole hilarious banter between them on that section. Like when Aventurine is going around the miniature Golden Hour, sees (big) Ratio and tells him "Doctor, you should come here snd take a look. The view here is _breathtaking _ ~ Honestly, you could squash me with just a pinch." and Dr. Ratio responds "If thatis your I will do it without a moment's hesitation."... Like. Ok man.
Note: some of the sentences between quotes are paraphrasing. I checked some of them but I recommend verifying at least the comments about eachother on their character voice lines list.
Woah, your video actually helped me understand some of these ships, specially Blade x Dan Heng. Unfortunately at how confusing and hidden the lore of Luofu was I didn't even fully understood the relationship between these two lol I thought Blade just had a beef with Dan Heng and people were just shipping because of commonly seen dynamic tropes in fiction. Funny to see how I quickly changed my attitude over a ship I used to dislike for no actual reason than not knowing their lore.
I remember when I first encountered Honkai Star Rail. It was around the 1.3 update that I started playing. When I saw that Blade was trying to “kill” Dan Heng (I use quotation marks since we found out that Blade was following the script), I was super confused why people shipped them. Then I looked into it and suddenly it all made sense. I didn’t think there would be actual lore that supports it.

Helloooo I'd like to point out there are a couple of romance movies/novels references in Ratio & Aventurine's dynamic (their quest name is Double Indemnity, having a lot of parallels with what's happening in the movie, including the Final Victor lightcone, which is a BIG reference to the final scene in the movie, even mentioning exactly 3 shots). They also referenced Oscar Wilde's Happy Prince in relation to Aventurine in 2.1, which, again, queer writer queer story, which ALSO has quite some parallels to Ratio, who ALSO has an Oscar Wilde reference in his character profile, quoting one of his famous lines.
