Gino is from Montreal. There is no doubt you heard his hit song "I just want to stop". it was a #1 hit here in America. Check it out. The drummer Mark Craney is a beast. He also played with Jethro Tull. Unfortunately he passed a few years ago.
I just found out that these days 72 year old Gino is a music teacher in Oregon. He's also still touring in North America and Europe. Cool! Can you imagine having him for a music teacher?
So many great tracks on this album, including "Appaloosa", "The River Must Flow", and "Love and Emotion", in addition to "I Just Wanna Stop" and the title track. Thanks for playing this one.
This is one of the most incredible songs that I've ever heard on this channel, or on any reaction channel! It's a first-time listen for me, and I know that different people have different tastes, but this is funky and jazzy on a deep level, and it's right up my alley. I need to check out more Gino Vannelli!
Montreal...growing up in Detroit and getting all the Canadian stations we heard this stuff a LOT because of the Canadian Content Law. Really brings back memories...Mama Coco next please & People Gotta MOVE!
This is the dreamiest album, but I haven't listened to it for 40 years, gotta dig this one out! Reminds me of the days of a fire in the fireplace and a good bottle of wine and Gino.
I was always hoping you'd get to this one! Gino has got some great music. Gino is fusion. He's kinda soul, kinda jazz, kinda classical, with a touch of pop and rock. Now from this same album if you could get to the cut "I Feel Like Flying", I think you guys would really dig it. More Gino.
I said it before and I'll say it again Gino Vannelli is so much more than "I Just Wanna Stop" How can I send you guys requests because there's so many cuts that y'all would dig. Brother To Brother is a work of musical art.
@AirplayBeats ok with that being said here ya go... Powerful People Love Is The Night Fly Into This Night A New Fix On '76 Valleys Of Valhalla The Whole Brother To Brother album Mama Coco Summers Of My Life Nightwalker That's all I can think for right now. Looking forward to more Gino Vannelli reactions from you guys because y'all is THE REAL DEAL!!!🏆🏆💯
Gino Vanelli is from Canada, and he can be very progressive sometimes, he's excellent, I don't mind the dramatic orchestrated jazz ock melodies, he's the best...
I got into Gino Vanelli as a 13 year old living in N. Idaho. Bought EVERYthing he ever put out. At the time my my friends were all into Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Who and the Stones... My friends thought I had lost my ever loving mind. I later learned that my ear was specifically drawn to the Jazz / Fusion genre.... 50 years later? Gino's still a fixture in my playlists...
This album has sat on one of my shelves unplayed since the early '80s - when you have over 10,000 LPs many great ones get forgotten so thanks for the reminder. I played several tracks from the album on my radio show when it was released in 1978. As I remember, the track "I Just Wanna Stop " was a hit single in the US charts, check out "Apaloosa" and "The River must Flow" - nice tracks. In spite of his Italian sounding name Gino is a Canadian and this album (the 6th) remains his biggest seller.
This is my favorite Gino Vannelli album! A must buy! Not a bad song on this album! Gino has two brothers, one brother is his keyboardist, and his other brother is his manager i believe. Thanks for playing this title cut! Play the rest of this album!! :-)
This is such a great song! I was a senior in High School when this came out and NEVER heard this until today, we were stuck with I JUST WANNA STOP and LIVING INSIDE MYSELF... this S**t is HEAVY!!
I was a big fan of Gino’s music! He got a big crossover on the soul charts! You’re right a lot of people weren’t ready for his strong jazz influences! So he never got a huge following but those of us knew he had the stuff! People got to move was probably his biggest hit, I have a couple of his Al albums still playing! Chiguy
Glad y’all finally got around to this. The entire album is killer!!! And I highly recommend the follow up album “Nightwalker.” I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. 👊👏
You have to see this song live. Gino reminds me of Robert Plant, in that they have such a powerful presence on stage. Artists of the highest level. Thank you for your great reaction.
So elated you chose this song. If you dig out you will see how he has alot of amazing stuff, he had a great band of musicians.even did some Italian stuff
I saw both this tour and the movie Raiders of the lost ark knowing nothing about either one going in. I was blown away by both the same way. Seen Gino 5 times since!
I’ve been a big Gino fan since the 70’s. saw him live twice in Toronto. Have a listen to Where am I Going from the Storm at Sunup album. An outstanding LP.
In 1978, I was 10 years old in Times Square to see a Broadway show with my family, and this song definitely has a Broadway quality to it. I don't know who the incredible musicians he got for this song were, but the composition of this sounds like something a classical musician would write if they were deep in the theater.
excellent choice guys. The guitar solo in this song is considered one of the greatest solos of all time, played by Carlos Rios. I Just wanna stop and Living inside myself are great options too, although they are more pop ballads. And yes, Ginno reminds me a little of Robert Plant and even Elvis with his strong and flamboyant stage presence.
The great (and sadly rather unknown) Carlos Rios on guitar! He’s now in Stevie Nicks’s touring band. And the late Mark Craney on drums; what a musician, everything from Jean Luc Ponty to Jethro Tull
I wore that album out and played the tape in the car until it broke. Saw the concert, too! I call him the Mad Scientist of Music. Every album has its own flavor and they're all bad ass. You won't find a better production of sound on any album except for maybe "Boston" or Santana's "Moonflower"
I do love Gino and his band. I was in a band when I was 19, and all my bandmates were older experienced pros, steeped in jazz and blues who had been playing around Detroit in all genres, great players, knowledgeable musicians. And our keyboard player pulled out Gino Vanilla for our setlist. The song was I just want to stop (it was the disco era so it was our slow song). It took some time to learn; I wouldn't say master, how do you master this band:). And you can't perform a GV tune and do it half assed. So glad you discovered this band. They are masters.
I'm so glad you boys got to this one. Them drums. That bass. Guitar solo. Vocals. Damn. There's a couple videos of Gino performing this. The earliest one will undoubtedly leave a mark. Gino would later jump the shark with Black Cars but not before he recorded some of the best fusion of the era.
Jimmy Haslip on bass, played with Fagen and many more! He plays bass left handed but plays a right handed bass. Listen to I Feel Like Flying from this album for some sexy, soulful Jimmy Haslip bass!
Absolutely the best Gino Vannelli song by a long shot. When this came out in ‘78 I was working at a record shop. Most of us working there were way too cool to like that sickly sweet Gino stuff we had heard up to that point but one of the girls there insisted we play it. This is the first song on the album. Our eyes just got bigger and bigger as it played. Needless to say it went into heavy rotation in the store. The rest of the album is great too. As long as you don’t pay attention to the lyrics. 😂
Gino made i think SEVEN albums after convincing Herb Alpert to sign him in the early seventies. This album ended his A&M contract on a high note and set him up to change labels and on great terms. He followed with Living Inside Myself for the new label and later in the decade blew everyone away with a totally unexpected Noir Pop move" in Black Cars. Dude cut his teeth on fusion and could do AnYTHING. The uniquely urgent timbre of his fusion years was a and perhaps THE prototype for every metal vocalist you can think of. And the WAY he modulated that voice was singular. JUST singular. Italianate with a sense of opera but the impatience of the late 60s for things NEW .
First woman I lived with shit hammered a great party to a grinding halt by suddenly playing Gino Vannelli. Everyone turned around and stared . Luckily a friend and bass player pounced on the turn table and tossed the LP right out the window in one smooth move. If this music was a shirt size it would be extra medium.........................
!! I’m thrilled you’ve discovered Gino!! Apropos to the times we’re living in, I’d like to suggest you react to Powerful People off the album of the same name. Also…Fly Into This Night from Gist of the Gemini. Really his whole catalog is worthy of exploration! Still and Always the best reactor out there!
Well, there’s a lot to listen to with these guys. People Gotta Move has to be way up there. The River Must Flow, Nightwalker, One Night With You, Powerful People.
I tell ya what man, I love you guys. I'm a 65 year old white boy, and I love your musical journey. But, if you were standing in front me, and called that smooth jazz, I woulda' smacked the hell outta ya. I might have got my ass beat shortly thereafter, but that is NOT smooth jazz. Gino, and his brother Joe on keys, are from Canada. I saw Gino in concert in Jacksonville Florida, I want to say around 1977 or 78, It was one of the best sounding concerts I've ever seen. The band was smoking, the sound was crystal clear, and powerful. Daryl Stuermer was on guitar (he'd toured with Genesis many times on guitar and bass). He tore that shit up. So did everybody. Joe is a badass on the keys. Gino was originally a drummer with bands he and Joe had been in, then one day, they realized he could sing. He came out from behind the drums, and the rest is history. He's got a ton of great tracks. One of my all time favorites that you should react to is: Where Am I Going.

Once you start listening to Gino you cant get enough and you are hooked for life!!
for musicians back in the day, Brother to Brother was the ultimate jazz-fusion reference track-it truly has it all.
Musicians love Gino!
Please do this whole album….you won’t regret it.
One of the best albums I’ve ever owned! Ear candy through the whole album! 🎹🎷🥁🎸 Totally worth adding it to your vinyl collection!
I been listening to his music for the longest time! Great musician …underrated for sure. This whole album is phenomenal
The drummer is kicking butt and taking names!😊
He sure is!!
The late great Mark Craney!
So many great tracks on this album, including "Appaloosa", "The River Must Flow", and "Love and Emotion", in addition to "I Just Wanna Stop" and the title track. Thanks for playing this one.

Always thought Gino was pop. I now know better. 💜💜💜
This is just comfort music! His vocal range awesome with the jazz fusion behind you can’t beat it. Another great choice guys!!
Great show. 1979 Brother To Brother Tour was loaded with past and present. Always great musicians well rehearsed every time I’ve seen him.

This takes me back. Friday nights with Gino blasting on the car stereo on my way to meet friends at a club. Good times.
It went prog rocky/ steely guitar solo on the break. I love this, deep cut gents, well done.😊
"The Evil Eye" off this same album is killer too fellas! Great channel btw 👍
