What makes his relationship with blackness weird? The black experience is many shades and that experience is even more layered when you’re biracial. It’s kinda weird for people to push him into “whiteness” when it’s convenient for the argument because it fails to acknowledge the fact that he is also black at the same time. Kendrick’s issue with Drake in relation to race is Drakes invasion of HOOD culture and THAT culture is one where Drake is not welcome (by most I guess) but that doesn’t mean he’s less black, it just means that’s not HIM and everyone can agree on that. You can look at Kanye, Tyler the Creator, Lupe, Lil Uzi, Xxxtentacion, Wale, or Lil Wayne and they all portray very different shades of the black experience and it’s no different for Drake. I think the real issue with that black culture has with Drake is that he’s portrays himself as something he isn’t and people want authenticity but let’s not make it a black identity vs white identity thing because it’s just dumb.
