Depending on when that truck was last used, a lot of older trucks have shut off valves to the heater core on the engine. People used to shut them off in he summer to help the a/c work better. Also the heater cores could plug up with dirt from the cooling system and the tubes in the core are the smallest in the system and plug. You can usually flush them clean with some work.

If your heater hoses are warm and you're not getting heat I would start by clearing out your heater core. Run a garden hose to it to flush it until the water comes out clear. I had a couple heater cores work great after flushing.

I watch another farmer whose semi-truck had no heat, and it was a clogged heater core. A simple fix--once he could get to it. I'd plan on reworking both front hubs while you have plenty of time. Happy new year to both of you--and the cat!

I like your truck nice for your operation. Series 60 is a solid engine I've ran several of them, and if you find it a little underpowered which on the flat Nebraska roads it should be fine, but I believe they make a tuning program that will give you more power than you'll ever need. Good luck with it I think you're going to like it. I think Laura will easily be able to drive it, it's a lot less complicated than her combine that she run with ease. And have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Merry Christmas you crazy kids. The transmission is a double "U" shift pattern. Usually on the older transmissions. It means it's an overdrive unit. I had a 96 Pete that I miss dearly. There's a damper that separates the heater ducting and the AC ducting in the cab. It could be that the line to that is not working. At least, my truck had that. Not sure on yours. Peace and Love, Choo Choo

Hey Grant I drove from Milwaukee to Ft Richardson in Anchorage in December 1974,in a 66 VW Micro Bus. Air cooled with a hopped up 65 hp engine. It was in the +30's when I left Wisconsin. Below zero° F. from Ft Nelson BC. To Anchorage AK.
Grant maybe disconnect the heater hoses and pressure test the heater core. Sounds like you're getting hot cooling liquid and fan but zero heat.

You got a great engine in that truck, worked on them for over 20 years. Pay attention to the alternator and AC compressor mounting bracket to the front eng gear housing. They can get loose and wear into the front cover which can be very costly.

You should maintenance all the bearings my friends. Flush out the heater core and replace all of the coolant. Change out the thermostat. It is not uncommon for people to remove them. Thermostats do get Jammed open when their springs break. Make sure the new thermostat is in the right direction or you will over heat and ruin your engine. Change out all the rear end fluid.

Your axel is a set back axel. That is better than mine! Headlights have been discontinued, there are no viable aftermarket’s available. From our experience if you drive on washboards one headlight will be looking for bait while the other goes fishing.
Ours had 4.11 rear ends, I changed them to 3.77 ratios. If you have any issues reach out to C&H truck parts in Sioux City or B&D trucks in Blair. They have been very helpful to us getting started and finding reman and used parts, Peterbilt parts are hard to find for my 1990 377. Good luck!

Both hoses are hot means it's flowing thru the core. It's the temperature blend door closed is the problem...... even if the core has red dog packed in it it will still generate heat as long as the blend door is open......

Years ago when I drove truck I carried spare mudflaps. They came in handy to put in front of the radiator in cold weather. Always remember when you buy a vehicle used, to some extent you were buying someone else’s problem. Bad wheelbearings and no heat. However if not much else is wrong with the truck it would be good for harvesting and moving equipment around. Series 60 engines are excellent.

Texas truck, the heat valves were shut off most of the time. Coolant needs to flow regularly through the core to keep it clean. I'm guessing the core is 80% plugged and the 20% flow which is enough to make the hoses hot is not enough to begin warming the interior on such a cold day.

Check out the heater core and see if it is hot if it is hot then the fins might be plugged up and air can’t blow through it. If that is the issue you might need to be boiled out

When I was a kid everyone had snow mobiles in ks but that was 30 years ago. We only get snow 1 to 3 times anymore and it doesn't stay.

There maybe a electronic valve in the coolant lines. Be close to the heater core in location.

Now you can go north to MN an ride with Zac.
You need to have a mechanic go thru it bumper to bumper. Checking oils an other fluids. Like other person suggested check for water cutoffs from waterpump to heater core, now take core out an wash. Great engine an transmission. Add fenders to rear duals.

Looking good, easy to maintain and nice enough with long wheel base. Most older trucks have a shut off for water heater, give you a grand for the truck,’!! You replace the front bearings!lol

So, you have a winter semi project.
    1. Inspect all the bearings
    2. Inspect all the brakes.
    3. Change the tranny oil.
    4. Change the differential oil.
    5. Change the engine oil.
    6. Change all the filters.
    7. Inspect all the lights.

I bought a brand new Gatormade gooseneck trailer 5 hours from my home. 4 hours from home the plastic hub broke and came off. I stopped at a truck stop and found a used potato salad bowl and made a hub and filled it with hub oil and stopped and checked it several times on the way home to check it but it made it no damage. I feel your pain ! Good looking truck ! Way to go Grant !
