Thanks for mentioning Basset Hound rescue groups up front. I've gotten eight of my ten Bassets from rescue groups and have never regretted giving these wonderful dogs a home. They really return the love they are given and have given us years of joy.
I have a basset hound named Sophie and she is my 3rd basset. She is 12. I have loved them all. They are the best family dog, so lovable and loyal. I also have a cat and they are best buddies. Bassets love everyone. Sophie is the neighborhood ambassador. People smile all the time when they see her, even strangers in their car. Bassets are the best.
A kind soul bought me a basset hound puppy 5 weeks ago. My husband died a year ago and she thought I shouldn’t be alone and knows I LOVE bassets and had 4 previously. I bought another one from the same litter, so now I have 2 of them. I can’t believe somebody would do such a wonderful thing for me. Those 2 puppies give me something to look forward to and enjoy each day. I named them Juniper and Raven and they are absolutely beautiful freckled face little girls.
I have 5 bassets and they came all from the same breeder. I don’t have problems with smell because I keep them clean and this should be expected by any dog owner to maintain their dogs cleaned and healthy. My elder basset passed away at 14. I have all new babies ranging from 2y to 4 months. Shedding is not a problem, at least mine don’t shed much. They do change coats from summer to winter and vice versa but nothing unusual as I also have a lab and a German shepherd. So, yes over all I have 7 dogs… all healthy and happy. I do have 5 acres, it is not fenced and I never had a problem with them leaving the premises…. a 4000 sqf home a lot of room to run. The bassets love to smell around as I live on the top of a mountain so lots of creatures come to visit us… they do love to chase rabbits and squirrels, but they don’t leave our house. I have one daughter and I work from home, so they have company but also having more than one basset is easier for training and keeping them busy as they play a lot together. Although they have different ages they do love each other. They howl a lot, and I love to sing along with them. Potty training is challenging but if you’re patient you will get there. Keep their water fresh and feed them good quality food to avoid allergies. Feed them twice a day and give a cookie at lunch hour. I bake their cookies with fruit and good quality grains. See your dog, whatever breed it is as a kid, if you treat them with the same respect and love your give to your kids or family members they will be your best friend in life, like mine are!
I got my Basset from Basset Hound Rescue... He had been kicked out of 3 homes before he was 7 months old....He had a fractured rib and blood in His urine..He would pass by his food bowl and go to the garbage can to eat...Emotionally he was absolutely distraught..and petrified...With Continual love, kindness, compassion, patience, nutritious food and medical attention, He has been transformed into a confident, sweet, beautiful ,healthy boy....Now, he is a therapy dog and his nickname 'Mr Smootch' says it all...
I agree with what u have said about buying a basset & bassets, I have only ever had bassets & I just love them to me they are the best dogs ever, they are super funny & make me laugh all the time & very loving, this is my fifth basset he is four & his name is Webster. Your Rosie is very cute & loose like a sweet girl. I remember now I watched a video of Rosie on a farm loved it . 🐾🐾
This is just the information I needed. Thank you so much for posting this. I have always purchased my pups (and kittens) from breeders I met at shows; for all the reasons you mentioned.
Shecara Bassets in Lethbridge Alberta Canada. Not affiliated with them in any business way (not an ad), but I'm VERY impressed with the male we got from them in Jan 2021. They're CKC affiliated, and very serious about their breeding, and who they sell to. Their socialization program is second to none, for Jake loves everyone and everything including all birds. He's so chill on walks, never barks at anything, and loves the attention he gets from everyone. People driving along stop to say hi because he's so ununsual, and he's never once snarked at another dog. Best breed ever, and Shecara is a TOP NOTCH source.
Up here in Vermont, we DO have a Basset Rescue that you can contact online; they are really good people who genuinely CARE. I got both of my bassets at their site! Good luck!!!!
The Basset is the very best! I am from South Africa and I loved my Basset to bits. I was physically I'll fotos two weeks when she died. Years later I still missed her intensely. I worked with the breeder, he was tops!! She had 11 champions in her bloodline, she was magnificent. It is now 50 years ago and I still have her papers. '😢😢😢😢
There are always exceptions. My first basset hound, Rappunzel (the Bonehead), came from a pet shop in the Northridge, California Mall. She was beautiful, sweet , healthy and shockingly intelligent. She was an absolutely perfect dog and after having her, I decided that I would only get basset hounds from then on. I now have 2 basset puppies that are number 5 and 6 for me, but I now live in Idaho, so I got these here.
@@brianwilson6403 That is exactly why she was named Rappunzel . I added an extra p though. My late husband picked her up and put her on the table and rolled up her ears and said the exact words you just wrote. I miss that dog and I miss my husband even more.
Are'n't there field bassets and show bassets? Field bassets a bit taller, less prone to leg problem and better rabbit dogs. My sister found a field basset in central Michigan, less stubby than most bassets, but not too noticeable.
I've had 2 beautiful male BASSETT Hounds...Our last came from Show Dog BASSETT Breeder...Each of them lived to age 11. I'm considering another...Love the breed! Where I. GA can I find my next best next male BASSETT?
A Basset Hound is three dogs in one. 1.They have the face of a Beagle 2. They have the droopy ears of the Bloodhound 3. They have the body of a Dachshund.
I live in Spain. Where can i found a good place to find a Breeder in optimal conditions, who really love his dogs and have them in healthy conditions, and make me a lot of questions trying to be sure his puppy will be in good conditions? I had look in Shelters for adopt, but here in my country they are a rarity....
Sorry to hear you are having such trouble finding a good reliable breeder there in Spain. Is it possible to find one in France? Depending on where in Spain you are it may not be feasible but it’s with looking into.
@@bassethoundcentral9622 That’s wonderful! I love Miss Rosie’s coloring! I noticed how her dots change colors on her chest which I love! We have a black and white boy who is 5 months old. We love him so much! Best breed ever!
I would respectfully disagree on shipping. My parents reached out to a breeder and they shipped a Dalmatian in a crate from Colorado to Ohio. Twelve years later she’s still a happy pup living the good life. She is no show dog and she is super spotty. But who cares?
Avoid scammers...Like asking for bank to bank transactions. Or even worse. Gift card and get no basset hound puppies. It's happen to me twice and almost three time. Basset hound puppies cost more then $700.00. I found basset hound puppy from reputable breeder.
Fiano Wynonna is 11 weeks old now. Training her myself. Just trying to way get Fiano Wynonna down command. I train my shepherd mix Hidalgo through Dean's list in Chesapeake VA. I live in Baker WV.

Do you have a crate for your basset and if you do how big is it? Mine basset is still really small and I don’t want to get the wrong size
Basset hound need a large create. Even if they are pups. It will last in the long run for purchasing one.
No basset hound video can be too long

Or better yet, go to the shelters and adopt one.
We had a Basset hound for 14 years. If you are going to be out of the house for eight hours, get a cat!!!
YES!!! Bassets are amazing dogs but they aren’t for every person/family/situation.
We would be gone for over 12 hours for work.
Tiberius would wait until after he ate to drain his tank.
Agree, they need their human to be around!
Don’t buy! Adopt. Check your local Basset rescue.
I love your channel, but this was not your best video. It was way too long and you could have given the relevant information in 5 minutes or less.
Fair enough. I appreciate the feedback!! I’ll have to go in and see if can at least add some time stamps to make it more user friendly.
Leash training on a walk
👍🏻
Don't shop! Adopt!!
