Are the 2023 Suzuki RM-Z250 & RM-Z450 Worth It? Intro with Kris Keefer

  • Kris Keefer and Todd Sciacqua break down the 2023 Suzuki RM-Z250 and RM-Z450 models. There have not been significant changes to either machine in the last few years, but the bikes are still perfectly capable machines, especially for the average weekend warrior. The duo compares the stock machines to other stock OEM bikes, and they debate if the RM-Army machines are worth it buying brand new. Keefer says if you can find a brand new 2023 Suzuki RM-Z250 or RM-Z450-or even a 2022-for a few thousand dollars less than MRSP, it might be worth investing in and saving money over a full MSRP priced bike from another brand.

    This shows the power of sponsoring riders, one good guy on the team and it revives a brand that the mx press have been ignoring. Rms have been great bikes for years and just because of a kickstart they have been ignored, Suzuki will sell out after roczen is on the team 👏

      I have to say I was surprised at the conclusion of this review and Roczen liking this bike so much. The way they were describing this bike it sounded like it would be a perfect bike for someone like Eli Tomac, who likes to rev the bike and muscle it through the bumps and ruts. Kenny you always hear how smooth he is and how he rides in high gears not reving the bike up that much. Just surprised me a bit.

      @therawlifefamily ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's definitely not just kickstart. It weighs more, considerably more compared to a KTM - and in order to add E-Start they'll add about 10 lbs (based off of the KTM 125SX E-Start). But there is also the issue of power, which on a 450 is pretty useless for most people, but the 250 is a different story.

    • @onlygazza
      @onlygazza ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@therawlifefamily the power isn’t a problem because they always downtune the factory 450s to be smoother and the weight is better for the whoops, it’s one of the best handling bikes out there and the new ktms are two pounds heavier than last year.
      E start has only been around for a few years of Ken’s career, it won’t bother him

    I’ve ridden Suzuki my past 2 bikes and just got a brand new RMZ 450 and absolutely love it! This bike corners better then any other bike and feels super smooth in my opinion. People hate on this bike just because they wanna jump on a bandwagon and don’t really have any knowledge of the bike and haven’t ridden it.

    • @bmatt413
      @bmatt413 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @2216sammyyou do realize that people cannot afford to buy multiple different bikes, right? So, people are definitely jumping on the bandwagon and hating on Suzuki’s with no experience or knowledge of the machine. It absolutely makes no sense why you would even question the comment that was made.
      Then you have to think about this; Cooper Webb, J-Mart, Justin Cooper, Christian Craig, AP7, Dylan Ferrandis, Eli Tomac, Colt 45, Dangerboy Deegan, Nate Thrasher, who have all been Yamaha Brand Ambassador’s.
      Follow that up with; FAN FAVORITE Jett Lawrence, Chase Sexton, Ken Roczen, Hunter Lawrence, Ricky Carmichael (250 Two Stroke), Wil Hahn, Justin Bogle & Barcia, Tomac, and Mookie all won races or titles on Honda’s and that has persuaded people to buy those bikes.
      The same can be said about the Kawasaki, KTM, and Husqvarna. However, you have to go back to 2006 & 2010 since Suzuki won a Supercross Title. Their bike is basically the exact same since 2017 and that’s where the hate comes from! Also, people do like to jump on the bandwagon because you even see it with the hate for Nickelback.
      People go out and buy whatever bike is either A) WINNING races & Championships. Or B) their favorite rider is currently on!
      With all that said, the original commenter is dead on the money because people do lack the knowledge of what these Suzuki 450’s are capable of! And as someone who has been in the industry since 1998 when I rode for a Regional Suzuki/Kawasaki dealership aboard a RM80 and also the KX80, I have seen and heard plenty of things about bikes over the years.
      Over the last 6-7 years, i could count on one hand how many people I’ve heard say something positive about a Suzuki and then when I asked what they didn’t like about them, they would nearly ALWAYS say, “well, I haven’t actually ridden one yet, but they don’t update stuff and they aren’t as good as my (insert bike here)” I always ask, “why knock it if you haven’t tried it?”
      I hope you have a blessed day and become a bit more open minded while reading comments on the internet 😂🤣 because sometimes just because you aren’t around the unknowledgeable haters, that doesn’t mean that they don’t exist!

Hmmm looks like he can all the same stuff the other riders can.. people have to realize not everyone buys bikes every year or few years… many of us keep bikes for 4-5 years maybe way longer and near a decade before parting ways… most recent bike I rode was a 2014 kx450…. Both are more than enough for my needs and I would rather forgo a little bit of performance for a bike that has better service intervals, is more reliable. Has a better easier turning chassis out the box that doesnt need fettling to achieve with clamps or anything. I have done many hard k's on my 450 and have never head had the head off once. I feel these are perfect to buy for any serious racer, they can toss on all new aftermarket suspension that will act completely different then the stock will ever do, build the engine entirely till only the transmission gears and cases are factory…

    Does anyone ride a bike in stock form today? Everyone and their mother buys a bike now, rebuilds the suspension and puts a lot of bling on it before they even go out on the first ride. I have no problems with that. We work hard and we want to put our money into our hobbies.
    But here you have a bike that leaves a lot of money in pocket to spend on "necessary upgrades", and you're still not ending up spending as much as what other bikes cost stock.
    You want a hydraulic clutch - put on a Magura Hymec. You want engine tunability - put on an aftermarket ECU. You want a more comfortable bike - drill the upper engine hangers and re-torque the engine mounts.
    You want electric start? This is so overplayed and something we now think is absolutely vital to even go ride. I've convered mine for enduro and trust me, if I can kick the damn thing riding enduro with a damaged ACL and meniscus then kickstarting for MX should not be an issue for anyone. It's such an easy bike to start with the ignition system that Suzuki made especially for it to be easy to start.
    And unchanged for 5 years is not extreme for japanese manufacturers. It's not like the other bikes get complete changes until after a 4-something-year run. It's always just BNG, small suspension changes and maybe other colored bar pads but we are led to believe that it's a brand new bike each year. Power of PR.

      @yukonjon5964 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i want to own a 350 too, but the gut feeling is the Suzook would do more for you in the long run. KTM's can be unforgiving and finicky. if you can handle 450 power, i'd say wait on the 350. they will only keep getting better. look how much better the WP fork got in just 3 years. you sure don't want an older WP fork. another 3 years could be amazing.
      as for mods, do the suspension up right, not just gold valves and spring rates. pay someone to keep tuning the valving for you till its perfect. the stiff MX settings on stock bikes are so far off. the results are the most worth-it thing we can imagine in having day to day fun on a bike. the difference can be huge.
      just sending the forks away to be done is not enough. its still a generic setting. you need to do testing and fine tuning to really know what you can have. its worth all the effort. i dont know much about A-kit's etc, but simply fine tuning the valving offers so much range of option to match your riding type.

    saying they aren’t and then they are after… it’s obvious they ARE a proven machine and other manufacturers have spent the last 5 years trying to figure what Suzuki is doing to make such a great and well priced bike with little to NO changes throughout the years.
    Maybe people just need to learn how to ride better, instead of blaming everything on the machine 🤷‍♂️ the harder you are on a Suzuki the better it does… isn’t that what everyone wants !!!???
    Cheese and rice 🤦‍♂️

    Not being a pro, I know my opinion doesn't matter, but WHT in hell hasn't Suzuki at least introduced an electric start!? That right there is why I won't even take a second look. It is moronic to me.

      You can’t ride this bike to its potential anyways. You have no room to talk.
