Hi David! I am not an expert on any of this, but I could not tell any difference at all, between any of them. I know you will go with the best method in the end, because you are the specialist on this!!!😊🤘
Auto Align in this specific instance has done something strange, it sounds like the snare is happening in the right overhead before anywhere else. Good video!
@@aidanswiftofficial yes I’m getting a resonance and a slap back delay. Or maybe a slap forward delay. It seems to have based its timing around Tom 1 which is not good at all.
I'm a huge fan of Melda MAutoAlign. It can be a little wiggly sometimes, but overall it is a lifesaver and amazes my clients with how 'FAT' everything sounds when I mix. I use it on Drums, Bass (if their is a DI and and a mic'd cab), and multi-mic'd guitars.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy for me there’s a resonance and a tiny slap back delay type sound in the snare, some of it sounds a little plastic too. I can hear it through my studio monitors and on my iPad. Don’t get me wrong, auto align will be better than nothing and it will save things that are hard to do manually but for me my own alignment sounds more real.
With Auto Align, I can hear a difference...most apparently on the snare... Of course, VERY subtle..but to me... The snare sounds a hair brighter, has a bit more point/impact and feels slightly more present...not by a lot. I tried doing a blind fold test a few times just to see if I was imagining it. I was able to guess correctly every time. Maybe not life changing, but to my ears Auto Align is def doing something..whether one prefers the sound of Auto Align or the manual adjustment, I guess is just that..personal preference.
@@ThisIsTorch for me it brings out a weird low mid ring and sounds like it’s got a mild slapback delay on it to me. I think what went wrong (if you see it as wrong) is auto-align made Tom 1 the pin to time everything from. I’d always use the snare and maybe the bass drum depending on song, I can’t ever imagine using a tom to time from.
@@domminney Yea, I'm seeing that many people use Auto Align to correct everything all at once in one go.. *I think* this is how SoundRadix intended it to be used...? ...and in theory, AA (not Alcoholics Anonymous ;) is supposed to intelligently/automatically choose the right source (usually snare or kick like you're saying) and time align and phase correct everything else...but maybe it screws this up at times...Maybe it's better to process in groups rather than the entire kit? Not sure...just got this plug so I'm still putting it through its paces myself.
This topic has been something that has been bugging me for years. Out of the two processed versions, the manual alignment was better as it retained a better stereo image. The Auto Aligned drums sounded like there was a lot of snare coming through the sides, which made it lose power. However, I personally favoured the drums with no alignment at all. While in some cases in can be necessary to align drums on an unsatisfactory recording, I find that aligning drums creates more issues with the stereo image and overall punch of a drum recording. The unaligned tracks have a far better stereo image for the kit, and the kit sounds crisp but punchy and full in the bottom end. (on my speakers the ride really pops out with no alignment) Room mics especially can sound incredibly strange to me when aligned - the whole point of having a room mic is to capture "the room" - this inherently means that there will be a delay from the close mics capturing a sound, and a room mic which is sat metres away from the kit. Blending that in is what gives the listener a sense of being in a space, as in real life they WOULD hear reflections from a wall, with a delay. This is obviously just my opinion - your mixes are fantastic, so what you are doing is clearly working for you, I thought i'd just add what works for me too! Awesome video btw - subbed
For the sake of this video I aligned everything but usually I’d align and then push the overheads and room back a little listening for phase. That way I can decide myself how much alignment I want. In my latest mix video I didn’t mention that the room mics were pushed back by 30ms after alignment, I will mention that in another video! Cheers for the comment and for watching, well observed!
Thank you so much for this amazing video! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
@@JoabChristabel I’d try adding some 8K using a shelving EQ and some mild saturation. Don’t clip the signal though as crypto is EQ and you don’t want it going out of phase.
Interesting. For me the autoalign and manual are the same. I have a question. Do you always align overheads to close mics? Some people on yt say that it flattens the drum mix. What's your opinion on that? Thanks for the great video :-)
@@JanPanCygan ha ha, short answer is I don’t always do anything! For this test I aligned everything so it would be fair. Usually I would bring the overheads in line then adjust by ear if it sounded false, and I would rarely move room mics that tight as I like the free predelay. What I’m hearing is a slap back delay and an annoying resonance in the snare when auto align does it.
I realised I said peak instead of transient.... Don't shoot me! Leave me a comment instead.
@@domminney I did'nt even realize that you called it the wrong thing, so don't worry, I won't shoot you!!! Lol!!!🤗❤👍

Funny, I did not any difference between the manual and auto align tracks. Maybe is a TH-cam thing? The sounded pretty identical to me.

The manual allignment sounded much better, Auto Align sounded a little bit off in this instance.
