For me, the best first truck is the only truck you’ll need for the whole game: 6x4 chassis and torque of 2.300 Nm or more. That’s it. You can haul anything.
In my experience actually the best first truck is the first one you can afford. As a side note I'd love to see the return of 2nd hand trucks and dealers.
The new actros is very good actually! With 6x4 and 625hp om473 paired to allison 4500r trans, it rides very smooth even at high speeds (>56mph). Just don't go higher than 50mph while you're on the truckersmp's Calais - Duisburg road and you'll be good to go (mercedes' trucks tend to understeer at higher speeds which is unfortunate.)

Iveco can't do trucks, DAF can at least do the job. But not much either. Not in this game, but in real world.
