Love this video cuz it's spot on. Dealerships in my area are selling GX Overtrails at around MSRP (i.e., $71K). As you said, the irony here is that the general public (including your next-door neighbor) doesn't consider GX500s to be offroad and overlanding vehicles, as opposed to the Land Cruiser, TRD Pro, etc. Hence, dealerships are hedging their bets on this vanity: How much are you willing to pay to FOOL people - to LOOK like you are an offroader, overlander, etc. (because the outdoorsy LOOK is such a SEXY fad nowadays)? Dealerships clearly believe they cannot "sell" this pretense with a GX; but can with the LC.

And it may also be due to the perceived desire for the hybrid platform...either for their own concern for a few more mpg or to appear more environmentally conscious....I wish I had jumped on a 200 series based on the prices of these new models
I just rolled over 30,000mi on my 2019 GX460. Cylinder-wise, I have two new Land Cruisers. Life is good 😂

This is a 55k msrp vehicle, here in florida I have seen them anywhere from 79k-89k,but there's a sucker born everyday

There are 3 editions....that range from 55k to 80k....and there's not a lot of terrible difference other than some tech and seats that is different.
This is a "major" mistake by the Toyota dealer. Take a look at inventory presently sitting around on Ram,Dodge, Jeep dealers.
I took my GX to Car Wash Falls trail in Arkansas this weekend. Had a blast. At the river crossing no other car went, I did it 3 times in front of them and I was still the only one to go. LOLOL

I just bought a 10 year old GX460, it's as nice as any new car I've ever been in or better. I paid cash. I'm almost 40 and have never had a car payment. I've never had a nice fancy new car, but I've never been "car poor" either.

Great way to show the ridiculousness of the dealer "sham" markups! From my perspective this is a 40-50k vehicle being sold with an MSRP of 75k and marked up to 90k which will ultimately cause customers to look elsewhere. Defiantly not unique to Toyota [as you say]. Hellantis subsidiary CDRJ may have priced them out of the market to bankruptcy. Plenty of other example.
I like Nadal and Federer so I bought me a Louis Vuitton backpack. They have one each. I verified this on the LV front page. I care about what the stranger at the Traffic Light and on Television cares about my backpack. This care is very real (to me), and to the stranger. The rule dictates that I impress a stranger, in fact, every stranger, because strangers care about the kind of bag I can afford. They certainly care about me when they glance over, through the driver window, and spot me (by myself) in a nice Big SUV at the Traffic Stop while on my way to the woods to enjoy nature (by myself!). Strangers care about me, else why do they look? I will never see them at the Traffic Stop ever again, but I leave a life-time impression on them. The Louis Vuitton and the Land Cruiser live on for these reasons... because my love for tennis and to look like Nadal with a backpack, are real... and with a $100K Half Cruiser, I too can leave a life-time impression on strangers at the Traffic Stop and on Television.

my 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958 w/delivery & some optional equipment was a full $40,000 less at 58k + change.
The less off road capable Lexus Premium Plus i test drove with 3k+ in factory options sticker price was around 15K mo’, got 7 less mpg’s city, and required Premium gasoline.
The same "gotta have the newest" mentality is the reason why the iPhone 14 Pro cost $1,100 when it came out in September 2022. Less than 2 years later, it is selling at $700 (and carriers can still profit a lot from that 35% pricedrop).

I'll be brutally honest, if I were given the choice between the new Land Cruiser or a Wrangler Rubicon. I'll take the Wrangler any day of the week. Now, as a GX460 owner, this may seem sacrilege. But here me out, it's the most reliable current off-road vehicle. That 3.6 Pentastar is tried and true and has been in many FCA product's since 2010 or so.
How long is the Wrangler auto transmission lasting these days? Convertible, doorless Jeep can't be experienced any other way ❤️
@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I actually heard tons of good things about that ZF 8 speed. The vast majority of people are saying that it's very stout. But the most reliable is the JK with the 5 speed auto. I've recently rented a Gladiator, and let me tell you, the experience was amazing! Truck felt super solid all around.

My lexus dealer called me last Friday and told me they finally have an overtrail+ for me but with a 10k markup price. I kindly declined and told him i won't pay one cent more over the msrp for the car, even if that means waiting a few more months.

its simple…15 city mpg Lexus vs 22 city mpgToyota is nearly a 50% greater fuel economy. The GX Requires (not suggested), it requires premium gasoline. If ppl are buying these new out of the box for attention grabbing, first to own an all new model design, mall crawler, the city mpg’s is a significant consideration in EPA mpg ratings, alone, let alone considering the Lexus Premium only fuel requirement will cost you 20 - 25% unit cost higher. The 1958 base trim LC gives only slightly lower HP, identical torque and is off road equipped better than the GX Premium, P+, Luxury, L+ trims for around 15K less, before sales tax. I know, bcuz i had deposits w three different dealerships - - for the GX in 2 diff states, & a third deposit for the LC locally. The 2024 LC makes more sense for those that intend to take it off road right out of the box. All trims come w/rear lockers in addition to the center locker, a manual disconnect-able front stabilizer, multi-terrain select across 4 modes and has 18” all-terrain wheels. The 24 GX has off road focus in the Overtrail & Overtrail plus, only. And, that EKDSS is continuously “on” in these GX’s. The LC 1958 will likely serve most consumers just fine. And, you’ll have coin not spent on Lexus luxury allowing for mo’ coin to customize it for your particular wants. There are plenty of 3rd party suppliers working w/Toyota to offer up just what you want/need.
It’s true South Florida Toyota dealerships are marking it up 15-K But not in North Carolina! I will drive there if necessary.

The added costs are about 1 to 2k if you use a detailer. Ceramic coatings can be 50 bucks on amazon easy.

My local Toyota dealer got a FE Land Cruiser they parked out front of the dealership. They Marked it up to 90k. After a week they moved it to the side lot that holds the normal inventory and replaced it with a new Camry in front instead. I think they started to give up 🤣
