A sewing channel for the real world! Thanks so much!
Im a messy sewer, myself. I try to be tidy as I sew, but somehow it never works.

I live in an RV so I don't have a lot of room. The one thing I decided I didn't need in my sewing room was my bed so I tore it out along with the carpet and now I'm painting the floor and changing the bedroom into my sewing/craft room. I have no problem sleeping on the couch as long as I have a good sewing/craftroom. I am very excited to get it finished!

I don’t like being interrupted when I am sewing, but I do have friends who sometimes come and keep me company while I work on things for them. They help with handling large pieces of fabric, taking things apart, pressing, etc. This kind of company is always welcome in my sewing room.

Lol cannot stop laughing. I hate when anyone comes into my sewing room.its like, "What do you want" I just want to concentrate and get into my sewing.

Amen, sweet Claire! Your tips are spot on. I remember when you decluttered your lounge . . . it looks absolutely beautiful now. I cannot tolerate a messy floor. I sweep and mop after every project. I know . . . it's ridiculous . . . OCD behavior some would say. A dirty iron is another pet peeve. I clean it before it has the opportunity to give me dagger eyes. I have two matching bedroom bureaus for storage. Each drawer is organized . . . thanks to you. No more unnecessary tools or supplies! Just so you'll know -- you are the YT Queen Bee! Bye for now, love.

I am very careful to keep my iron clean. In my case, it is very much an essential, since if it were dirty, it could present a serious fire danger. In my case, a CLEAN iron is a SAFE iron!

I’ve pretty much got my sewing room fixed up so that it works quite well for me. I did have little problem with 2 containers that I just had things thrown in. So I went to the dollar tree and spent about $6.00 on some plastic cups & little square containers. It has made all the difference in the world. I do need to do some organizing . I do pick up my floor & empty the trash weekly. I have good overhead light and my sewing machine light. I’m really enjoying the light even more because I got cataract surgery on my right eye this past Thursday. I got my left eye done on the 20th. I’m also enjoying being outside looking at everything. I need to do a lot of organizing in my house but right now is little stressful. Not only am I having cataract surgery but my son has also been getting it done. Plus we’ve had car work done and just other things. We both have eye drops four times a day for a total of 10 weeks and there is 4 different eye. So until things get more back to normal I’m just doing little general housecleaning and organizing will just have to wait.

Probably the tv, but I do have one (I share). My husband is a manic de-clutterer, so I have to be clever about stockpiling. What I don't need is a pile of free or old patterns I don't like. I'm retired, who needs secretarial wear?

  • @margm4

That has some excellent advice. I’m having to downsize as my husband passed away and my house is too big for me to manage. My new abode has a spare room that I will use as sewing room, plus extra bedroom. I have 50 years worth of stuff! I was always a tidy sewer, but have accumulated a lot of things I don’t need or use. You’re very inspirational…thanks 🇦🇺

Thanks for the tips! My sewing room is a very small bedroom, and my 2 hobbies merge there. Half the room is camping & hiking gear. I successfully re-homed most of my books at "Free Little Libraries" around my neighborhood. I'm a curator of quality thrift store fabrics and patterns, and my biggest need is to actually use these things, and then donate beautiful, finished items.

All excellent points. I am lucky to have my own sewing space and strict about what is in there and everything having a place. However when I downsized last year my sewing space moved from a purpose built cabin in the garden to a bedroom. It has its advantages I.e close to bathroom😂😂 but I do get so many more interruptions!!! They are sometimes welcome e.g. a cuppa but sometimes annoying as you say. Good Luck with your move and wonderful to see the diet working so well for you. 😊. Lynne

I use to have a sewing room . I now live in a small apt and it is now in my living room and I have a little dog so I have to clean my floor. My fabrics and one sewing table is in my bedroom . I rarely have people in my apt . so I have almost no furniture. I just got a reading chair. lol the other is the dogs chair.

Headphones in leave me alone, I'm in the zone😂. I prefer no one in my sewing space.
Hubby changed the lighting in the room and its been brilliant.
My sewing space doubles as WFH space so I have to keep them separate. I've so much remnant fabric, so I've stored it elsewhere as the clutter messes with my head. This vid was brill Claire. Thank you

I relate so much to the idea of avoiding the room when it's too cluttered or messy. My husband has put a lot of stuff in my room and I have been avoiding it. I bought a new machine in October and I have hardly used it because of having to shimmy around my husband's clutter!

My sewing nook is in my kitchen. I have a range in my kitchen and I need the use of my range when I am sewing. Normally, I do not eat in the kitchen, just prepare meals and I usually eat in my office. I am just starting out, so I am still figuring everything out. I usually have one of my cats with me in my sewing nook (her name is Miss Stripes). I am messy, right now...but I am working on being more tidy.

@@Penguinandpear I’m still dealing with hot flashes after 3 1/2 yrs carnivore.
      Having trouble with adequate rest/sleep.
Dr. Ken Nerry and Dr. Nrownstein interview I learned about iodine deficiency. This has been helping.

I would deadbolt my sewing room door shut, if I knew how to install one. It would take more than a day, or more than several weeks to get that end of my home decluttered. This is the dilemma when you have lots of different interests, and you deal with different disabilities, and poor vision.
