I think up to 24 teams would still work for the Big Ten guys. I have no idea if it will get to that. I think pairing Notre Dame with Stanford makes sense for all the logical right reasons. I know the idea of having some teams in Florida/southeast is tantalizing due to population and tv markets and recruiting. But, which out of Florida or the Carolinas is anyone’s best guess. I’m a bit burned out on the guessing game over it to be honest with you Mark and listeners.

Notre Dame has been trying for the last seventy years to get into the Big 10 and they repeatedly been rejected by the conference. Could it be that Notre Dame is now just so irritated with the Big 10 that the conference no longer has a chance to pick up the Fighting Irish? Culture is likely going to prevail over revenues in the coming years. Have you ever felt like you did not belong within a group even though the pay was great? Why would anyone put themselves in such a situation long-term?

First and foremost the fact Notre Dame has their own TV deal with NBC, money will never be a bargaining chip. They will have to be forced to join a conference, which I believe will happen. But, which conference will be solely their choice - until the one Super Conference is created...
I don't know why everyone in the comments section is trying to pair Notre Dame with Stanford. The Irish have more of a history and rivalry with USC and Michigan - for traditional reasons. BIG makes most sense for ND, due to the fact Michigan taught ND how to play the game. It was only until ND beat UM (on the 9th try) that UM's coach, Fielding Yost effectively blackballed ND from ever joining the Western Conference (what became the Big 10), to where ND was forced to find opponents outside the area, which led to possibly the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football, with USC.
Hell, even Navy has a more solid claim to be paired with ND than Stanford, simply for the fact of them bailing out Notre Dame during World War II.
So please don't just pigeon-hole Notre Dame with Stanford.
Bottom line, I don't know what Notre Dame will do, but I will always embrace and support Notre Dame's right to independence, being a traditionalist. But I know, realistically, ND will be forced to join a conference. Ultimately the ACC makes the most sense, so they don't have to uproot all their other sports (since they are a national powerhouse in Lacrosse - 2023 and 2024 National Champions, fyi) but the BIG makes the most sense, for the higher level of competition. I would rather they play a stronger schedule than get a (potential) walk to the ACC Championship. And in order to renew the UM rivalry, and keep the rivalry with USC (now that Lincoln Riley is threatening to discontinue the rivalry). But, as long as we can schedule both UM and USC my gut says ANY conference but the BIG - for tradition-sake. 'You didn't want us then, you don't get us now! Screw you, Fielding Yost' 🤣🤣🤣

Go 12-0, get that #5 spot, then play #12. Beat them, then play #4 Acc or Big 12 Champ. It's a nice road. But it won't last. I think it's finally time to join a conference. Georgia. 1.9 billion
    Ohio st. 7.8 billion
    Michigan. 17 billion
    Notre Dame 18.9 billion
Now the kicker, Princeton 37.5 billion
    Yale 40 billion
    Harvard 50 billion
What we see is who has the finances..Notre Dame can hold out as an indie for a Long time if wanted..
    Michigan is in Great shape
and look at the Ivy here..if Harvard, Yale or Princeton wanted they could be powerhouse D1 programs as money is no issue..they could give basically Every top 300 player great NIL deals and leave the SEC, Big 10 the scraps.. but to them it's still a sport, not to be taken too seriously and to every other football fan it's quite a but more important and to some a way of life..
In saying that I don't know why Michigan doesn't do better NIL deals as they could..
    FYI Stanford 36.6 billion..

Texas and Nebraska are not blue bloods. The original blue bloods are the teams with the most national titles and oldest traditions. They are the originals. Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma and Minnesota. Nobody mentions Minnesota because they have dropped off but they have almost the same amount of national titles as Oklahoma. Teams like Texas, Nebraska, Penn State are all mentioned because they have some of the highest winning percentages of all time although they don't have the most titles. If we are talking about the blue bloods being the OG's and the schools with the longest history and most national titles, then the list above has to be considered. The three Ivy league schools have to be included because they have the oldest college football traditions in this country and the most titles. If we are talking about relevant programs only, then you have to include Georgia, Clemson, FSU. You have to take out USC (2004) , Nebraska (1997), Texas (2005), Penn State (1987), Notre Dame (1988). They have not won a title in a very long time. To be relevant, you need to have won a title or two in the last 10-15 years. Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC would all fall off the blue blood list if you are considering relevancy. If you are not considering current relevancy but just tradition and total national titles, you can't take those teams off.

They were removed because of low research $$ but were when they joined as others have stated. However all that's overlooked for the South Bend school who has done very little research, especially of note, and no medical school. Notre Dame being AAU is a joke. Good school for what they do, but they ARE NOT a research university. I believe ND owes somebody or paid somebody off; a quid pro quo. Either way it's not on the up and up and the mouth breathers are so wrapped up in football that a real scandal that actually matters is completely ignored.

Notre Dame is special because it has a national brand and audience. Notre Dame will discover that not being in a conference with the current format will be a disadvantage.
Any conference should be willing to pay Notre Dame more because they are a national TV market draw. If they were in your conference, Their national TV audience would be more likely to watch your conference games because they would affect Notre Dame’s playoff implications. For instance, let’s say North Carolina State and North Carolina are playing at the end of the year and they have a normal TV audience of around 2 1/2 million. If this game affected Notre Dame‘s playoff/conference championship aspirations, this game would have a viewership of 4 million viewers. This affect would carry through many teams and games during the season. Thus, providing more than enough reason for negotiations with the current TV deal.

Just for recruiting purposes these would be good moves for the Big Ten. Doesn’t mean I think these moves would be good overall but to get into these markets would be a win recruiting wise. I am looking at a 24 team big ten.
    1. FSU Or Miami
    2. Georgia Tech
    3.Virginia Tech
    4.Texas A&M or SMU
    5.North Carolina
    6.Notre Dame
*Notre Dame doesn’t bring any recruiting turf but does bring every other metric. TV, Attendance and cache’.
** FSU and/or Miami brings the huge Florida recruiting bases.
*** Georgia Tech is a poor fit for every other metric EXCEPT the Georgia recruit pool and the TV market.
**** Virginia Tech for the same reason as Georgia.
***** Texas A&M is a reach but does get the Big Ten into the Texas recruiting pool. Same with SMU which would be an easier get for B10.
******North Carolina brings not only the Carolina market with its spring football and a great 7x7 scene. Same for all the southern schools mentioned.
Again just to expand the Big Ten recruiting foot print. In reality what I think will happen is
1-Notre dame (within the next ten yrs)
2-FSU or Miami (whichever team goes to the big ten the other goes to the SEC)
    The rest is anyone’s guess.
