That is incredible. A legend in his own time, shows so much respect to kids, and gives them his time. A constant professional, even legends still have to practice, such class.

Louis was a kind man who was respectful and to the point were he gave these kids time to interview him while actual qualified reporters were willing to do the same.

I don't think many people can say, "When I was 15 years old, I interviewed Louis Armstrong wearing boxers."

I always wondered about his practice habits because I know of the discipline it requires to play like he did and yet he always seemed so care-free.

Barry Machiavellian lol me too- and he taped all sorts of things so it’s possible he left a reel of a practice session.

This is wonderful!! Michael and James donated a CD copy of he complete interview to the Louis Armstrong House Museum back in 2003. We're so happy to see what "Blank on Blank" has done with it! (And even happier to see the reaction!) If anyone wants to hear the complete interview--and thousands of others--please visit our Archives at Queens College. Thanks again for what you've done for ol' Pops!

People often have an illusion thought when they saw talented and successful musician, that they have ''talented'' characteristic for music or art. but they don't know behind closed door,is dedication of practicing , grinding , constant-learning and discipline.

Louis loved to smoke weed, every day, and he was a strong advocate of herb.
I smoke for 34 years now, I started when I was 14, and I hope I smoke til the day I die!
I just love it, it makes me happy, and you get never bored, ever. ;)
And when you listen to, or make music, it's ten times enhanced, and adds more colour to it all.

How have I never heard this before? if I were ever in a room with Louis Armstrong, I don’t think I’d even be able to talk; It would just be too much for my brain to handle. Also, New Trier is my alma mater, class of ‘01

Nice little piece. I can't help pointing out, though, that the animator screwed-up: the instrument is a cornet. I don't know how one would play a coronet.

Is this actually a recording of their interaction with Louis Armstrong, or is it a re-creation using existing recordings of Louis Armstrong mixed with their voices. They make no mention of bringing a tape recorder. Back in those days it would’ve been big and bulky. This is a wonderful video nonetheless. I’m not complaining. Just wondering.

Louis Armstrong is just the most gentlemanly of men. Think about all the segregation and racism he faced growing up, and here he is holding a happy, relaxed interview with two white young kids. He was wise enough to recognize that one day, people wouldn't be judged by color, and he just wanted to make two kids day.
    What a solid solid dude.
