Teddy Pendergrass was the sexiest, charismatic, charming greatest singer I have ever heard. I went to his "ladies ionly concert'" and I have not seen a male singer motivate audience like he did the ladies. He said he was lead singer for harold melvin and bluenotes for years and received no recognition or money. He said he had to beg for money for him and rest of band to eat and sometimes sleep. He said one time he asked and was slapped. He said the next day he went solo and the rest was history. Made it to top of charts in weeks. He said he received letters and phone calls from husbands and boyfriends threatening his life because their women were in love with him. He hired guards at home and away and said women still found a way to get into his house. A++ singer True success story.
sharon byrd Huh? Harold Melvin was really ugly and disgusting....having my sweet Teddy beg for money then slapping him like that...... freaking creep......Teddy made him rich and that's how he treated him? Teddy should have punched the daylights out of his hideous self........he would have been fully justified......darn creature that Harold Melvin was......uuugh! Thank God Teddy left that group when he did... just so sorry about his accident..... he was well on his way to even more greatness when it happened. Can you imagine the tremendous success he would have attained? I can just imagine the hell those husbands and boyfriends went through back then, with their women obsessed with Teddy....had I been around, I'm pretty sure I'd have been one of those ladies too.......lol RIP my sweet angel face Teddy!
I'm only 30 years old. But my mom, grandma, and aunt, and uncles raised me on soul music. Teddy is PURE, AND REAL with his music.and his background, he calls them teddy angels, them sistas can sure sang. And dance with so much class.....no twerking neccessary. I was born in the wrong generation
@@cynthiahaywood3826 Yep👍 Unlike certain singers of today, whose names I won't mention and have no idea what they're saying in their squealing (singing), the singers' lyrics of yesteryear can be clearly understood.
Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, all superstars with their voices. All gone way too soon. Love them all for what they gave to those of us that love soul music!!
I was at this concert I’n London in 1982 just before his accident to say he was the finest man I’ve ever seen up to today is an understatement That is the perfect man right there ❤❤❤❤❤
That is the finest man I ever saw standing right there I had the pleasure of seeing this concert in London in1982 he had a presence about him he was mesmerising he had everything ❤
Teddy had a one in a BILLION voice. A+++ in the sex appeal department. The sound of his golden throat, along with the emotion he packs into this song is ace. His accident was tragic, but he managed to live a long seemingly decent life (a loving family). This song is equally totally brilliant.. I couldn't understand why this wasn't a mega hit.. It had all the elements to make it one. Thanx Mr. Pendergrass for shining so brightly in the heavens for too short a time.. I miss your excellence.
Pendergrass made history for being the first Black singer to have five consecutive platinum albums. His streak ran from 1977’s Teddy Pendergrass to 1981’s It’s Time for Love. 'Come Go With Me,' was on his third album called, 'Teddy' in 1979.
June 12, 1977 - Teddy Pendergrass goes solo. Beginning as simply a drummer who also happened to have quite a voice, Teddy Pendergrass developed into one of the hottest singers in the world during the mid-70s as part of vocal group Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, but on this day in 1977, he took his meteoric career to the net level, leaving the group and issuing his solo debut album, establishing a solo career that was both brilliant and tragic.
I'll go Teddy! I loved how he begged.... My car's right outside.... That's if you're ready to go....baby I hope you're ready to go...I'd understand if you said no....! I need a Teddy
Girl the second he said, "my car 8s outside, we can leave right now! With that command and yearning in his tone, my bags would have been packed and I would have been out the door in the passenger seat before he got his next sentence out. That whole clip you quoted is probably the most passionate lines in a song I've ever heard, along with his performance of it. Good lawd. Teddy teddy teddy!
I should add, I can see why women fawned over him. In his 20s he wasnt as attractive as he is here in his 30s. He was too wild and mannish in the 70s. But this video is perfect. He is probably the most attractive man ever , at this concert event.
Teddy was the whole package. Tall, handsome, beautiful voice. If he was my man I'd have him sing to me all the time. Gone way to soon. One of a kind. Still melting heart's long after he's been gone. That say's it all.
Teddy Pendergrass Had it all born with a gift, a voice / sex appeal but unfortunately he was on loan to us us all without his parents there be no Teddy Pendergrass we thank you for sharing your son may he R.I.P 🌹
Watched some so called modern day RnB on BET a couple days ago. Watching and listening to this now and asking myself wtf did I watch yesterday. I thing young people's perspective on relationships have evolved in such a scary value system. Thank goodness for TH-cam so we can revisit our sanity....

Sometimes I wonder if his accident was natural with all that jealousy in the world today and all that witchcraft hmmm

Wow. He's singing live and sounds just like the recording.

Salute to the real I feel ya bruh stay safe in this cruel world
Different era's. The only similarity between these times and the old days is people still equally love drugs and secret flings with transsexuals.
This is some legendary footage.. filmed just weeks before the car crash..
What a true talent...
Brought it each and every show...

Teddy, I love you for this song, all this memories

No "auto-tune" here folks, this is 100% live, and 100% awesome 😌
Don’t you love it. Majority of the singers back then didn’t need auto tune. They were true singers.
