  • Making sustainable products the norm in the EU is one of the main objectives under the EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan. Consequently, on the 30th of March 2022 the European Commission introduced an ambitious proposal for a Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products ( ESPR) to increase sustainability of products through enhanced resource efficiency, carbon neutrality, and information accessibility, among other aspects.
ESPR sets out a framework to enable the setting of new requirements to make products more durable, reliable, reusable, upgradable, reparable, easier to maintain, refurbish and recycle, and energy and resource efficient (ecodesign requirements). It also requires that all regulated products in the EU will have Digital Product Passports to make it easier to repair them or recycle them as well as facilitate tracking of substances of concern in products along the supply chain.
