When is there a good time for a finish that is less flashy and more out of nowhere (a roll-up pin, for example)? Would you want to first build the character who's doing the flash finish's technical mastery/ craftiness? Or is it more of a device for a newer wrestler to pull an upset over an established wrestler to lead up to a rematch later down the line? Or is there another reason I'm missing? This topic has me intrigued.
It could be used both ways. Ultimo Dragon used to use the La Magistral Cradle really well as a finish in Japan in the 90s as the crafty technician. It wasn't always 'out of nowhere' but the crowd recognised it as an almost instant win. Similar vibes with ZSJ's use of the European Clutch. I've also used it as a tool for less experienced wrestlers to look like a legitimate threat, before they've really built a strong moveset. Their moves might not be impactful enough to look like they'll put the experienced opponent away, but anyone's shoulders can be pinned to the mat for a 3-cunt with a tight pinning combo.
