My parent's families were wiped out by the Germans and or Russians: one parent from Latvia and the other Ukraine. A wonderful upper middle age woman "adopted" me as her grandson, when I was 8. She spent time with me, to the point of knowing all her family secrets, where the money is hidden, her love of Jimmy Stewart and on and on. She was my rock as my parents struggled to provide and our relationship lasted till the day she died in 1996.... 21 years. I miss her, even now. Point is, without her, I would have been a latchkey kid, with no direction in life. So, thanks for what you do. It's important.

I also had to care for my mom when my dad had things to take care for the home. I promise that was the most humbling experience of my life! I would have loved to have children but I realized it wasn't for me - I had a stroke after a rare and unexpected brain hemorrhage in 6th grade and although still finished school, I am partially blind, have ADD, epilepsy, short term memory challenges, a serious math disability and trouble multitasking. It can be sometimes emotionally painful when people ask me if I wanted kids, but I have had the chance to work kids for 17 yrs, volunteer with them, and am a happy aunt - they live far away but I spend time with my niece and nephew on vacations and holidays and they give me lots of joy. As now a woman of 43, although I didn't end up with what I could have had otherwise, I try to stay positive and grateful for what I do.

Both my parents were diagnosed stage 4 terminal cancer within a month and a half of each other. I put my life on hold to care for them. But because I haven't given birth, I'm not compassionate, self-sacrificing or humble. I have also taken on the role of being a step-mother and my daughter's mom doesn't do anything for her. I provide financially by paying for sports. I'm the one that holds her when she cries. I'm the one that is raising her. This is despicable, hateful and extremely hurtful.

I would have loved to have children but I realized it wasn't for me - I had a stroke after a rare and unexpected brain hemorrhage in 6th grade and although still finished school, I am partially blind, have ADD, epilepsy, short term memory challenges, a serious math disability and trouble multitasking.
It can be sometimes emotionally painful when people ask me if I wanted kids, but I have had the chance to work kids for 17 yrs, volunteer with them, and am a happy aunt - they live far away but I spend time with my niece and nephew on vacations and holidays and they give me lots of joy. As now a woman of 43, although I didn't end up with what I could have had otherwise, I try to stay positive and grateful for what I do.
That's a horrible thing to say to another human being.
The value of a woman goes way beyond her ability to have kids.
