My brother had just started with channel 7. He said at the time they had lost contact with Darwin. I was an RN, and met the residents of Darwin, when they arrived in Brisbane. We welcomed the People of Darwin, and gave health checks for everyone. May the People who lost their lives, RIP.
My Dad was a volunteer with the clean up , he told me he gathered 14 bodies and what broke him was a 4 yr old girl getting tossed side to side from the tide on the beach , now I understand why he drank a lot especially during Xmas , he is 80 now and it still haunts him
I was 2 and a half. I was there with my parents Arthur and Janet. We all survived. That poor little girl. 💔 She would be 54 this year. All those years taken away.
I was only 2 when Cyclone Tracy devastated Darwin. I adore Darwin, indeed l lived in the tropics in Cairns several years ago. I now live in the Mallee in Victoria but always identify with the tropics & always feel like l am Home when l go back to Cairns or Darwin. To all of those who lived through this terrible storm both those past & present. The resiliance of Territorians is something l greatly admire plus those of the Red Cross, Salvation Army & all those who unified in the clean up & evacuation of families. To see the unification of people rolling up their sleeves helping everyone in intense humidity post the storm was very humbling & moving. To all Territorians especially those who lived through this terrible terrible storm you will never been forgotten.
Do a special investigation into the reasons behind the UN's subsequent enacting of the international EnMod treaty. Weather should not be used as a weapon. Even if it is accidental, experimental, unintentional... Or classified top secret for 100+ years :/
My dad went to Darwin to help we flew there 2 months later and stay on the Portugese cruiser THE PATRIECE. ( Don't know if spelt right) Then moved to knightcliff
I'm there, 2024, Gonna visit My Dads Grave, HAVE A BEER THERE, CRY ALL MY TEARS OUT, thank him, & Petty Officer Ian Rennie for they're Services to Australia, 50 YEARS, GOES QUICK.
@@katebossence7988THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!, I had 48hrs a Fortnight ago!, to Find DADS GRAVE!, had I NOT walked into Channel 9 Darwin?, probably would of Never Found it!, but, was Televised!, me putting a BEER!, on DADS GRAVE!, ( RESPECT TO ALL DARWINIANS! ), who, showed a Lot Friendliness!, Cheers.
To some People, it's just another Yeah, Whatever Story, NOT FOR ME!!!, I was 2 years old, on Holidays with my Family, in Beautiful Wollongong, My Dad, was a Petty Officer in the Royal Australian Navy, assigned to Head to Darwin, what can I Say, Petty Officer Ian Rennie, & DAD, DIED, that FN morning, Changed our Lives, we became Legacy Kids, No Dad, But, MUM DID A GREAT JOB, ALL GOOD, R.I.P TO ALL WHO LOST THEY'RE LIVES, DECEMBER 25th 1974. Thankyou.
I am so so sorry your dad was taken from you that day/night.💔😥 I am the same age as you. I was actually there in Darwin with just my parents. We ended up in Canberra after that but first I think my mother and I were flown to Adelaide but my father either to Alice Springs or Canberra. I do know he was separated from us for a while. Where did you grow up? I remember my parents for the first fifteen years of my life constantly retelling the story of what we all, the three of us, survived.
We moved to Darwin after Tracey my dad was a carpenter and we lived on a cruiser liner until resource's were set up . Houses had no roof. When we got a home it was bottom layer of a multi level house house coz that's all that was left. Stairs led to nowhere

1974 Bad Year For Darwin. 50 Years Ago . . . R.I.P and Respect.
Good story Dan
A lovely story on Australian Weather events that destroyed a area in the top end and all and 71 was the top count on deaths technically etc.

Yeah, that BITCH TRACY?, she changed OUR LIVES FOREVER!, took my Fathers life, 33 years old, I was only 2.
One day, a smart cookie will work out just the right question to ask via the Freedom of Information act, and tell the true story of Tracy.
😮
Which is?
This year is the 50th anniversary
