So today I wanted to change rebound on a mag32 manitou fork of 7yo. As I turned the rebound adjuster, the entire left spring and dampner came out. All in what looked like rusty water. I might need a new fork instead of servicing it...
Great video! Loads of have to service lower leg but non off them showing have to check the bushings if is all right or slack a bit or just weared out bit
It's pretty much the same tbh, take off the lowers, replace the seals and the oil and stick the lowers back on, just that you need different tools to take off the lowers
No, idiot mechanics say they can 'feel' the torque. Experienced mechanics get the correct tool and do the job properly. We all know not using a torque wrench is down to laziness
ok bud, you keep on doing what you're doing and I'll continue following good engineering practices. 'How to' videos should show best practice, this is not, thats all I was pointing out. I could give a list of my quals and experiences, but i'm just a username on youtube so that's rather pointless.
Considering the importance he put on using the "correct amount of oil", it's a bit ridiculous that he put the wrong amount in the air side bath. By the air side top-cap this looks like a regular 2016-2017 36 Float (probably a 170-180 mm model), which according to any Fox oil volume chart from 2015-2019 uses a 10 cc oil volume in the air-spring bath side and 30-40 cc in the damper side (depending on the damper type or travel). Only the Talas model uses 30 cc in the air-spring bath. According to Fox, overdoing it with the oil in the bath can cause damage to internals during the compression of the uppers into the lowers and spewing of oil through the seals.
Actually I'm curious about this one as well. Just changed the oil in my Fox 36 Factory 2016 model and this video gave me a hard time figuring out what's the correct oil volume
"Don't re-use foam rings". Well, since my fork seal kit order is taking ages to arrive, I decided to reuse them anyway. They were quite dirty, but after soaking them in WD40, then gentle water-based de-greaser, rinse, gentle squeeze and blow-dry, they came out looking like new. I also reused the crush washers, they're just a bit of hard plastic, why throw them away if they're not damaged?
+Sam Hilton aren't there rubber sponges rather than foam Sam do you know anything about that on the new boxxer teams that's what I have and I was going to do it today but I have a black rubber peace rather than foam and it says it replaces the wipers and sponge but I'm not totals sure if that's what it actually means
Hello Guys, I really enjoy watching your videos and tutorials, given me a lot Ideas doing my service. I only got one question regarding the lower leg service on Fox or Rockshox forks. You mentioned only to change the foam rings and only check the top seals. How do I get those rings without buying the top seal aswell. All suppliers only sell sets. Kind regards and please carry on as you do. Axel
“ if you don’t know how take out the fork already best take it too a professional “ Yeah thanks there.... I am here because I am confident on doing simple repairs/maintaince like this at my house
I looked up my fork on Fox website (2021 Fox 34 Rhythm 130mm), they mention 3 oil volumes: air-side bath, air chamber, and damper-side bath. I didn't see him put "air chamber oil" anywhere, should it be done at the same time? Also : Fox recommends different oils in my left/air and right/damper sides (20WT "Gold" and 5WT+PTFE respectively), should I soak each ring in the oil type for its side, or should I soak both in the thicker 20WT since they're effectively doing the same thing : lubricate the stanchions without taking part in the actual damping.
It would be helpful to know the correct names and sizes of the driver tools for both Rebound / Damper Side and Airshaft / Air Cartridge Side legs PLEASE? Other than that BRILLIANT VIDEO - I'll be saving this for reference purposes. Where (UK) to get the service kits 'O' rings and seals would also be VERY useful PLEASE? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💯% 🇬🇧
I miss the days of being able to neglect my costco bike's fork and still rely on it to take in the big hits. Now I've got a Fox Float 32 that is more plush and tune-able than I need it to be and it's high maintenance to boot. At least it's light
Whats your guys' opinion on buying a long travel fork(160mm) and putting it on a xc bike(has 110mm) but when installing the 160mm I would reduce travel to 110 by putting in travel reducers?? Im trying to build a bike and the 160mm fork would later be used for the new bike to save some money. #askgmbn
hi guys what bikes do you recommend for around £1000-£1500 been riding trail's for a good few months now want to upgrade from a hardtail p.s love the videos learned alot
Does anyone know if this would fix a lockout rebound and compression all not working? I blew my forks a couple weeks ago and obviously dont want to buy new ones. Would a lower leg service fix this?
Hi Gmbn, first this was a really good video thank you but I have a problem: The code on my Fox 40 is strached so I can't read the code, so can I finde this code anywhere else on the fork or on the fork description? Thanks for Help🙂
Good question - I'm not sure however it should be in your owners manual or on the fork box perhaps, can't help as never been in that position! Sorry, Scott
Which kind of syringe is best for measuring/injecting shock oil? I did my fork full service but the syringe I used became too tight after use. It appears that the oil makes the rubber plunger seal to swell. The syringe I used was a medical use syringe. There should be some type of syringe for oil use. If someone can tell please comment.
hi, my fork is fox40 2016 FLOAT, when I remove the lower leg, I found a black circular hard rubber at the bottom of the lower leg's air damper side, what is it? by the way, its in the lower leg not attached to the upper tube

Hi I have 2013 Factory Series 36 FLOAT 26 160 ... which oil should I use. I found some references to Fox Green 10W and some to Fox Gold 20W. Its very confusing. I do not know if it Open Bath fork ... but it has FiT RLC sticker on it ... anybody have any clues ?
Wondering if I should buy those screw on tools. Always just hit the threaded shaft with a rubber hammer before. Is it a way for Fox to prise more money from us?
Used a rubber mallet on my old forks. My fox 34's have a thin piece of metal that the rebound knob screws onto though. I found an old Hope xc axle that was perfect for the job.
Total newbie here, why do I need to remove the fork from the bike? Seems like I should be able to do this with it attached & upside down, turn it over to drain the oil, then upside down to finish--what am I missing?

When you change your chain, you have to change the rest of the drivetrain too, so a new casette and new chain rings, I just did this the other week, I went onto chain reaction and found a good deal on a shimano SLX casette for about £30, an XT chain for about £10, and some race face chain rings for about £35. If you're running 9 speed at the moment, then you should be able to convert to 2x10 (still my favourite setup!) hope this helps :)
Any 9 or 10 speed chain will work fine, just make sure that the rest of your components aren't excessively worn (cassette, chainrings) because if they are you could get skipping.
+Sam Hilton You don't need to change the rest of the drivetrain everytime. Only if the chain is very worn which can lead to damage to the rest of the DT.
If you have had the drive train kit a while, then it will all need replacing, including chainrings (since if they are worn, they will slip with a new chain). As a bike mechanic I should know :P
