    Another reason not to carry a power clan very often: iirc, if you have a power clam and the enemy doesn't, they get passive special charge, putting you at a disadvantage.

      It's a bit more complicated than that :
      Score tied : Holding power clam gives charge, unless opponent holds one too. Same rules if you've got the lead.
      You're losing : You get charge if no one has power clams, or if both teams do.

    TH-cam decided to recommend this video only now, but I'm finally playing competitive after consistent turf war/salmon run play since Splatoon 3 released and the video has been very eye-opening. I zoomed up to Rank A pretty quickly, but while I'm making steady progress toward S, that progress has slowed down considerably, so I hope to learn how to be more aware of my surroundings and respond to my teammates.
    Clam Blitz is my favorite mode, but it's also the hardest to play and understand what I should be doing. The video format swapping between explanation and demonstration is working well for me. I think I can do this!

    I’ve hated clam blitz since it came out. I think that stems from not knowing not to play it.. Lately, I’ve started really trying to learn how to play it, to round out my skills, and hopefully open another exciting mode to play in. Your videos have been so helpful in this, thank you so much!

      also you can super jump with the super clam meaning you can possibly have a beacon in enemy spawn and throwing it in the base.

      Yeah I just started trying to play some ranked matches and I absolutely hate clam blitz because it is just so confusing. I don't think I've ever won a single game of clam blitz in my life.

    * The team with better map control will have access to more clams than its opponent. While actually scoring those clams depends on a team's ability to push towards its opponent's basket, controlling more clams usually leads to longer and better scoring pushes.
    * Gem already provided a good defensive tactic at 24:02, which should limit the number of clams the opposing team can gather at clam pods on your side of the stage/map. This will make it harder for the opposing team to keep your team's basket open.
    * If your team has a significant lead (i.e., > 30 points, including opponents' penalty), then this is one of the few times forming multiple power clams can become useful. Every power clam your team forms removes a potential ten clams from the opponent's clam count. Just make sure not to expose power clam carriers too close to the opponents unless it is intended for a knockout push.
    * If the stage/map has an out-of-bounds area, and your team has a sizable lead in the final seconds, then throwing any loose clams away can deprive your opponents any clams they might need to take the lead.

    I know this is a bit old and applying it to 3 may not be as useful as intended, but thanks for this video. Literally everyone i know despises clam blitz, i want to learn it so i can try to get them on board, too. It can really be fun if people know what theyre doing, its kinda sad the game fails at teaching players the basics

    I love the level of detail you go into with everything. I've been rank X around 2200 for a long time and still learned quite a bit about optimal strategy. The part about score was pretty helpful as I had never seen anyone go that in depth about it. It gave me some more clarity about whether pushing at certain times is a good idea or not. Keep doing what you're doing and I hope you'll hit the spotlight soon as these videos can help people of any level. Thanks again man for the insight! :D

    Clam Blitz is my lowest mode and I seem to have a hard time ranking up, I'm pretty sure that video is gonna help me a lot improving my skills in clam blitz, especially because you pointed out some errors I keep doing and had no idea they were even wrong in the first place.

    This really helped me today in some A ranked battles. I was on the winning team more often than not. I was playing with all randos, no comms, and it seemed most of the other players, on both sides, didn't have much of a strategy other than charging the basket. Thanks for the great instruction.

    Hey Gem, you might want to consider making the brush animation just a teensy bit quieter if you can. It's not that it's necessarily loud, just that it's much louder than your voice.

    Thanks for the video!! Even in Sp3, this info is incredibly valuable. I had gotten to S+1 in Clam Blitz in Sp2 and I had subconsciously practiced some of the points made in this video. Playing Sp3 now, I think the hardest part about Clam Blitz is how fast the game can be over. In Sp2, you had more time to think. In Sp3, I find that I have significantly less time to analyze the set up for a play, but I'm also still rusty from not playing Sp2 for few years lol. Anyway, thanks again for the pointers!!

    i find a good strat for clam blitz in splat 3 is to get 7 clams, bring a teammate with you to the enemies basket since you can be stealthy (you dont have the football giving you away) have your teammate give you a clam and score

    Clam blitz is the most complicated ranked game mode in the game.

    • @SquidSchool
      @SquidSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It's the most different from modes that people are used to seeing in shooters, I think that's the real issue. If it were tutorialized a little more, I don't think it would have the same stigma as it does, especially in low level.

      At any level where this kind of thing is happening, a strong competitive player can probably carry as hard as T is. The thing about complaining about teammates in ranked is that until you're upper X rank getting paired with much lower XP players, you're the same rank as your teammates, and any mistakes they're making can simply be avoided by ranking up. So be careful about the way you're framing the narrative about your solo queue experience here, it's easy to start deflecting accountability for errors this way

    • @KH-hn2cn
      @KH-hn2cn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@SquidSchool I actually agree with both of you. As someone who's gotten beyond 2500 XP, it's true that you have to focus on what you have control over (i.e. your own plays and how you react to your teammates's plays). The first question after a match should always be "what could I have done differently to impact the game more and for the better?"
      That said, I also agree that certain soloQ brushes can make a match twice as hard as it would usually be. By roaming around the map, picking up clams and trying to score whenever they see the opportunity (very frequently without any kind of control), they actually work against the team. They make it harder to collect clams, because they randomly remove them; they usually put your team at a number disadvantage by feeding or by just not being in the fight; and finally, more often than not, they end up being a delivery service of free clams for the opponents, when they just overextend into enemy territory with 8+ clams on them.
