Reminds me of the joke about an old farm couple listening to the radio minister Sunday morning. He said to put one hand on the ailing body part and the other on the radio. The wife put her hand over her heart and the husband put his hand on his lap. Seeing this, the wife said Herman, the minister said heal the sick not raise the dead. Am I in trouble now Curtis?
fire, fire in the wires. lol sooner than later (they also don't like to trip very well) and some FP breakers are even worse. may as well just have 30 amp time delay fuses on everything, they were far more reliable than most all breakers on the market back then(and today sadly). 🙄😒
Thank you for all you do man, between you and the guys I work with I’ve put together enough information to be out on my on. Just want to say your a big help for a learning tradesman.
That Stablok breaker was broken, it had a hole in the back, you could see the insides, also the push in terminals were discolored, which shows signs of arcing and overheating, probably should've been replaced.
What an amazing job Curtis. Boy, that blower wheel and housing were sure rusted. And the cabinet the air moves through is sure rusty and dirty. So the air being sent back into the house to the registers isn't all that "clean." There's loose insulation, etc. Is there anything that can be done about that?
StabLok is still around, there Federal Pioneer or UBI now, but yes whole panel should be changed if old fed pacific. Also noted the condition of that specific breaker was piss poor.
I think you are working off Slappy BLVD. Back in the day that was where people hooked up. Starting from Teg's Bowling alley to putt-putt golf. I live in T-ville. That unit is like the one Noa had.
My man, I always break the studs off of the blower motor face as you are mounting it with a belly-band. That way you won't have to remove the blower again. Those studs are not needed for most applications and they are just limiting your space.
One of the brown wires be connected to the white wire inside the motor. Usually a white stripe on the brown wire id's it. If no stripe an ohms test should confirm. Looked like he did a 4 wire hook-up.
@@joehead1294 if there's no white stripe, just check it with meter(continuity mode) it will be the only one that's zero ohms/beep with zero. I'm agreeing, and adding.
Man seeing package units on residential homes must be a, southern thing here in PA and de and MD. These type of units are usually only installed on flat roof tops of Comercial buildings like retail shops or big Comercial office buildings. Honestly Curtis. If you need to replace them you would just be better off converting and installing a normal split system with a seperate air handler like those gree flex units I know you are dealing. With now and redoing parts of the ductwork as nesesarry to separate out the returns and supply.
Antique? i say that's from the stone ages lol. That unit is beat down, surprised its still working today, but then again they don't make them like that anymore.
looks like a horrible fright or similar throw away tool, with the locking groove cut too high up the shaft. could match the shaft up to other bits and cut off wheel the shaft to the right length and taper the bottom edge(lol) or just buy a not trash wheel.
We have a Carrier that has lasted 35 or 36 years. It finely got a locked rotor. Had a guy come out to check it. Before we could put it on Eheat and the compressor would never turn on. After he did something saying he was making sure it would not come on, if you hook it back up the the contactor it tries to come on ? What did he do ?. I know you are busy, but if you can any explanation ?.
Curtis, on that wire brush that keeps coming off, check the length of the insert end to the dimple against like a Malco bit. I'll bet that length is just a little too long and that is why it keeps disengaging. Grind it a little shorter and see how it behaves. Had a whole bit set that needed miinor adjustment.
That is a good one there, great job at keeping it going. If it doesn't leak I would let it rip as long as I could. I would clean the condenser coil, but I would not touch the evaporator. I would be scared it may cause a leak.
FYI. That panel (FPE) are bad news. If it is original which is what it looks like, it needs to be replace. Those panels are very dangerous as they easily start fires.
Check for power to be off 3 times not to get zapped 1 time . Your impact driver has a lock just pull forward to open lock ,place bit in , then release .
I think the locking groove on the wire brush was at the wrong depth to engage the lock bearings in the impact. at least it looked that way to me, the groove is too far up the shaft as compared to other bits. aka someone in China forked up and got the measurement backwards. go figure 🤣
Whoever thought Antiques could only be found at an Antique Mall have never visited the state of Georgia. Georgia must be the Home of the Old HVAC Museum. 😬👍🙏
Brother I'm all for saving BUT 30+ years old it's time to be replaced any amount of money spent on that unit is wasting money needs to go towards a new one. Unbelievable it was built to last.
I don't like letting them go that long due to the mold and growth forming inside the unit. Also insulation and ductwork is probably falling apart. But its up to the customer to want to replace the unit. I understand if it's working leave it alone but the health risks and smell can't be good. Also it takes longer to pull fan motors out due to the rust accumulation. But that's one thing if they changed the insulation back then it would be unstoppable. The Mitsubishi's use foam and plastic instead of metal and fiberglass
Are you talking about the insulation that lines the interior of the cabinet that houses the blower assembly? Changing that out? Is the Mitsubishi foam/plastic available to cut to fit?@@acrservicesmathewr7565
have you ever tried to rent a van that's anything besides an empty box? Granted, it will put your stuff out of the rain and harm's way in a bad neighborhood, but either way it's a royal pain to work out of another vehicle. He's lucky to get something set up as a work truck.
30 Year old Ruud. Simply amazing.
This Antique is so old, Steve Lav installed it back when he was a teenager.
She's a crusty one Mr Grinch! 😆
I'm pretty sure Steve has never worked on a single package unit in his life, you won't find em in the northeast.
Maybe It was installed when Moby Dick was a Minnow, and yes I know, whales are mammals. It's a joke. 😎
Now that was funny. 🤣🤣🤣

Ahhhh. The old Stablock breakers... gotta love em... nice rebuild...
if not burned off the bus just hammer them back in

I replaced mine about twenty five years ago and mine was installed in 92, I’ve fixed three electrical issues with it since 92.
Lot of work, hope it gets through the season.

Those were Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breakers. They are illegal and should be replaced, turn this over to your favorite electrician.
Can you verify that "illegal" claim? I haven't seen that anywhere.
No home inspector would pass them, but not illegal.
StabLok is still around, there Federal Pioneer or UBI now, but yes whole panel should be changed if old fed pacific. Also noted the condition of that specific breaker was piss poor.
Those original Federal Pacific StabLok breakers are faulty and often fail and lead to a fire. There are makers of replacement breakers.
@@kennethnapier131 I've heard their as bad as the originals.

Love working on old Ruud/Rheem units
Nicely done. Loving the trunk
did a good job few hick ups but got it done. keep up the good work. be bless and save.
Good job.
What brand of chuck do you use for removing blower motor bracket?
cant be much left the heat exchanger by the looks of the rust
Ya had fun hows rescue mtr doin for ya?

You can break them off with a hollow nut driver or your adjustable wrench. Easy peasy.
You Know it’s Old when the Rust is Falling Off. 🤔😬👍
That wire wheel you can use it on your other driver drill. Hand tighten it and it will stay put
Another job well done!
That blower housing seen better days L o L
I would always get confused when I wired a motor 3 wire. I would have had to wire 4 wire.
Nice work

Man when the pilgrims assembled that on the Mayflower I wonder if they knew it’d last this long 🤔
There’s no greater feeling than when you’re having a hard time putting in a screw and it finally catches and locks in.. 😁
HOPE YOUR KNEE PAD SHOWS UP
So why did the wire wheel keep coming off?? Was it the bit or the drill! I have that drill so it started to worry me 😂😂
The same thing was happening to me , so I switched to the Milwaukee drill instead of the impact driver , and it never came off anymore
So, what was in the box on the blower housing?
Wire nuts
Another day , another dollar ... Good job Curt ...
Is that wire brush a Harbor Freight special?

Why not use a cut off wheel and cut that motor shaft off flush with the locking collar?
Antique? i say that's from the stone ages lol. That unit is beat down, surprised its still working today, but then again they don't make them like that anymore.
the "stab lok" breakers are older and should be replaced

Wondering if a magnetic bit holder would hold that wire brush in place?
This might work better than wire wheel for rusty motor shaft. If you can find the correct size.
Sometimes a 1/4 inch magnetic tip nut driver is more suitable to a power driver in tight spaces such as when removing and installing the fuse box.

Didn’t need a puller on this one.
