Back in the mid-'70s and before they had the cab cars, my father and I would ride the train to the Wye at the MCRD. They let me work the whistle attached to the brake hose. I used to work that sucker all the way back to the depot. I will always remember that.
I always enjoy watching videos of the Pacific Surfliners, the Coaster & Metrolink commuter trains as well as the BNSF freights in Southern California. On Saturday, May 6,2018 I rode Pacific Surfliner train number 769 to Oxnard,CA for the day and returned on Pacific Surfliner train number 792 back to San Diego. I’m now becoming a regular rider on the Pacific Surfliner when I’m home in the San Diego area. I have no regrets at all in choosing to ride Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliners between San Diego,Los Angeles & Oxnard, alternating my day visits between Los Angeles & Oxnard. The trip is comfortable, restful & relaxing. I. Don’t have to deal with he Santa Ana Freeway rebuilding, the Golden State & Ventura Parking lots at all.
Thank you for your patience and for the videos that give my grandchildren beautiful emotions and me an effect of its Doppler effect (a bit like the hertzsprung russell effect)...

@@nofirealarmsallowed Lol, no I just mean the cabcar SDNX 2310. It has 2303's original fouled 90's K5LA. 2301 has it's original K5LA along with 2302. 2303 now has a K5CA-LS, and so does 2304. 2305 has its older retuned K5LA from 2008. However since the 2 bell is fouled on 2305's horn it sounds more or less like a K3LA. 2306 is out of service and has a hybrid K5LA. 2307, 2308 and 2309 have raised letter K5LAs now. Well I can tell you this...those few Amtrak Silver/Blue Locomotive Units that went to Chicago's Metra still have that very LOUD Horn! Plus Metra (for right now anyway) must have chosen to leave the colors in the "Amtrak California" (with Metra markings) scheme for now...but I'm sure they will undergo a repaint in the next few years. I love your video, especially from the beginning! The tracks between the Condos in Downtown San Diego remind me so much of Metra's former Milwaukee Road District line as it heads out from Union Station...Condos and such are being built all along that portion of land ONCE owned by the Milwaukee Road, put bought up by land developers...there were plans for 4 Tracks instead of three that it is presently, but that idea was nixed...there is no room! That's progress for you...again great video, Spencer!

There’s a facility in National City where Honda’s & Acura’s that are built in Japan arrives at & are loaded onto the auto rack freight cars to be shipped North to Los Angeles,Fullerton & from there East, and of those are full auto rack cars, they are coming from Kansas City where Ford has a large plant.
Was this shot in XF-AVC or MP4? Did you shoot in any log profile or do any color grading? Trying to determine if the Canon VIXIA GX10 would produce similar looking footage to your XF400.
Shot in MP4. The GX10 is pretty much the same as the xf400. The only downside to the GX10 is you don't get the handle with the XLR outputs for certain audio mic's.
@@spencerhughes2255 Thanks for the information. I see you’ve moved on to the XF705 for later videos. Any recommendations for high quality cameras with power zoom under $2000 these days? I’m looking to upgrade from an old Sony CX900. Despite its age, the Canon GX10 still seems like one of the top contenders.
Amtrak's biggest fan 796 arrives at San Diego after 1AM. It's the last southbound Amtrak that starts up at San Luis obispo at about 3PM. So it's pretty rare that people would catch 796 at San Diego.
