That Ford tractor is doing a fine job breaking up the soil in that field and so is the John Deere Disc and I always dreamed of owning a Ford tractor when I was a teen and working for others, and having the opportunity to drive one in 1966. I hated that they had stopped making tractors and I ended up buying John Deere equipment in 2002, and more after that from the same dealer. They was the only one in my region and I had no choice except to travel a long ways to buy or get repair service on the equipment.
Grew up running a 6600 Ford... great tractor. We pulled a 13.5 foot Ford 602 disk with ours disking out cotton stubble in the fall before bedding and disking in Trifluralin on cotton ground in the spring. Finally replaced the old 4 row Ford disk with a 14 foot IH 470 disk. Had a Deere 10 foot offset for awhile, but the wider ~10 inch disk spacing and narrower width left the ground too rough and took too long to cover the fields, though it did plow much deeper. This looks like a great plowing disk with the conical blades and 10 inch spacing, but the conical blades take more power. Why we switched back to a 7.5 inch disk spacing when we bought the IH 470 disk... smoother finish. Looks like a good heavy disk though.
That brings back memories discing or using a spring tooth harrow in the Spring using a Minneapolis ZB. The smell of fresh soil being turned over after winter subsided. I’m not sure if I’d use a disc on that old sod though, discing tends to “pull” the sod to the surface...
@Andrew Young This 6600 has been in continuous use in farming in our family since it was bought new in 1976. Hour meter as turned over at least three times (meaning 30,000+ hours.) This is a real used tractor that can work the fields at any time. Not a parade queen.
