Great app, been playing using touch screen , BUT.... besides an OTG cable what could be used with it to get better latency. I have the Note 8 by Samsung by the way. thanks
Just you? WHAAAAAAT? Dude, I *LOVE* Caustic. Also, after struggling with MIDI for years (PC soundcards, GarbageBand, etc) this tutorial made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE CAUSTIC! And thanks so much for great customer support. Just the fact that you have a MIDI video speaks amplitudes about you. I'm upgrading asap, and forever a supporter of your work, just like I am of Propellerheads & Ableton. PLEASE allow MIDI knob control - one is somewhat limited only tweaking one knob at a time with a stylus.
Hi, latency depends largely on your device so while I can make small improvements on my end (for those on JB 4.2), the Android version and hardware drivers are where the major bottleneck is (for ALL Android music apps) As of this writing the lowest latency device is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus followed by the other recent Nexus series devices (N4, N7 and N10)
This is awesome! You guys are really paving the way for MIDI on Android. I have a dream of a future where people can play amazing set's with just a MIDI controller and their Galaxy choc-full of VST's and sequencers, all made possible by the badass Caustic developers.
It depends on the controller itself, some allow you to change channels 1-16, some have a limited range, some only map to Ch.1 On the MPK Mini, you can change to Ch1-4 using the "program" button. Hold program then press one of the "Prog" keys on the keyboard (small white text above the last keys). This way you can control the top 4 machines in Caustic. There might be a way to map to different channels, I haven't read the full manual for the controller.
This app is very impressive, well made. The FX Section is icing on the cake. maybe +delay/verb in the future? (..tho i know that takes more processing usually) Great job with this one, i recommend it always.
Awesome thank you! Especially with the quick response, I'm sitting here right now producing in your awesome app with my new USB adapter and constantly switching between channels was irritating me. Have to say I love using it. Doing some great work with it on its own or in conjunction with FL 10.
I have a ZTE Zmax. I got Caustic 3 working with my M-audio Keystation 88, wireless mouse, and keyboard using a USB hub and otg cable. Your computer keyboard can play the sounds also.
What about using a novation xiosynth which is a controller AND soundcard? It would be great if I could use it as a tool to record with good quality. ALSO it has a hardware synth and can make pretty use able sounds
Yes, it's part of the demo's philosophy. I let you try everything to make sure it works with your gear, I have nothing to hide. But I think an app that gives you 6 MIDI controlled synths is worth a few dollars though...
Absolutely.. I use ableton live for most of my production, but I recently got caustic for on the go to use as a sort of notebook for ideas. I was pleasantly surprised by how in depth the app is. I am able to to much more than I had expected, it was well worth the cost. One quick question tho, am I able to export wav. Files to import into new or existing projects in ableton? I have yet to check put caustic on my laptop . . .
It's been submitted, so as soon as the folks at AppWorld approve it. No MIDI over USB on playbook though I'm afraid, they don't allow USB host mode (yet).
Love the app, works great with my MPK 2. Would like to know if in the near future with you be adding an arpeggiator to use with the synths ? I do a lot of dark synth pop ( depeche mode, Inhalt, and VNV Nation ) stuff and this would be major helpful.
What device currently has the easiest/smoothest/most useful integration with Caustic? Cheaper is better, cheapest is best, but we all pay in the end, eh? Love the app, reminds me of Rebirth back in the day.
When i plug my midi keyboard, then setting midi input, caustic doesnt show message usb controller preferences, i cant play with my midi device, no sound and no push keys on screen.
I see that your using this with an AKAI Mini Pro, which is great for me because it's the controller I use with my Nexus 7. You say in the video that your second MIDI option is for controlling one channel, is there a way to switch between them in that mode or will it always just be the top instrument?
Works good with my mpk mini and caustic 3 with last update, but still has big latency as other android application. Also midi works now in g-stomper, best application for music creation
Thank you for the program!!! I've bought it and it's the best music app that I've ever bought! =) Just one quick question: can I plug the midi Keyboard to the phone and charge it somehow?
You shouldn't have to do anything special for it to work. I know lots of people with S3's who use MIDI controllers just fine. I've tested the GSM model myself with the MPK mini shown in the video. Your best bet is to do isolation tests. The phone should recognize USB "thumb drives" and USB keyboard/mice. See if you can get one of those to work with the cables you have. Caustic doesn't tell the phone to supply power to USB so if the LPK25 isn't powering on, it's the phone or the cable.
Using a Keystation 61 and a samsung galaxy chromebook. I don't get the popup when plugging in, sadly. Does work in Perfect Piano so, guess it's specific to this app. I guess it's quite old now - perhaps you're not updating anymore? No worries if not.
Ok i got it working with my axiom25 and nexus 7 :)) took a bit of switching it off and on again but that's OK i spose. Latency is pretty acceptable and much better than my galaxy s3 which was much easier to get working. Have to play with it a bit to figure out how bad the latency really is but don't give up on your m-audio hardware people! Its plug(x10) & play
As stated in the video title, this is Android only. There is no support for USB host accessories on Playbook right now, RIM has not made it available. Sorry. (and yes the updated is submitted to Appworld, but hasn't come through approval yet)
I love caustic. 3.x is amazing. -but how is the latency on this setup?? I have an Maudio usb midi keyboard. it just shows up as a generic midi keyboard. -Also does this work on the PC and iPhone?? pretty sure I had caustic for my old an old iphone 3GS which i decided to keep as a musical instrument, and load it up with tons of software and midi controllers, but bonjour over networking doesn't exactly do great for midi controlling. but i digress. I got everything you need as described in this video-but i never tried hooking up the midi keyboard to the android devices, cuz androids had major issues with latency. Like bad 10ms and higher latency. Does this work well considering it's running over USB?? -And how do i get this same feature to work for PC and iPhone?? I has Caustic 3.x for all the above and would love to actually start integrating the app into my music studio like this. The modular synth is my favorite BTW. Wish I had known this channel existed, would saved me a lot of questions and forum sifting. So I was wondering about some feature requests. I already got ASIO working on Caustic 3.x for PC/Windows which is fantastic. -But the sampling rate is always stuck at 44.1KHZ, is there anyway we can get some higher sampling rates?? -especially for PC. I got some really high soundcards with really high sampling which helps alot when mixing and such. 192KHZ 32/24BIT sampling rate would tickle a lot of people pink.
I'm having axiom air mini 32 midi keyboard. I'm having problem regarding setup with fl studio mobile. After connecting it with my phone's OTG, it's started illuminate my midi, but it didn't connect or access with my fl studio mobile. Can't you help me sir regarding this issue.
Just recently bought, I'm running a chromebook r-11 and a Nektar Impact Lx-25+.....no signal whatsoever, doesn't even send a prompt to recognize. G-stomper rhythm works pefextly though (not the hardware). Any help would be appreciated, its a beautiful app! Thank you!
Just found my galaxy tab 4 and I'm glad to know midi support was added long before this thing was released. Thank you for this vid! (I know it works on my nexus 5X but you gotta make sure, right?
I am a Caustic user, however I also use a second DAW (gstomper). I would like to use the two DAWs simultaneously. I just tried FlStudio mobile. Im amazed about the latency. When i connected the controller the latency was even better. I dont know why its not the case with Caustic. Hi, Caustic seems to be a great app. I found Caustic by looking for apps which support this feature (usb midi). However, it's not working with my miditech Garagekey mini which supposed to be standard usb midi. I could really had fun with it on the go since this keyboard fits into my backpack...
interesting. I have an m-audio oxygen 49 also a 49 key controller. it powers the controller I set midi setting accordingly but no response from the app it is still the best android music app
is it possible to use sounds and effects from a midi capable synth and add them to your song? or do you only use the midi to control the machines in caustic?
Hi!! Thanks for the video! Is it possible to connect my yamaha electronic piano to Caustic using a midi-to-usb cable, or should I rather buy another midi keyboard? Thanks
Hi, Dale! Yes, I managed to connect the keyboard to the phone but the latency is too high, becouse of the processor of the phone (Zenfone 2, 5 inches). So I downloaded the pc version of Caustic and now I use my computer instead of the phone, without any problem..! :)
Hey! I love Caustic. I’ve been using it from 2016… I just bought it for my iPhone. There is a Bluetooth problem it won’t connect to any device such… I hope you could solve this problem or tell us if you have a new project going on…
Thank you, that leads to question number two. Is there any support for MIDI *wind* controllers? I mean, some configuration so that the volume is pumped up and down according to my breath pressure, and the like. Thank you!!
Thank you for this video. Is there a way to connect the Android phone to a DAW like Logic Pro in order to record some sounds of an app in Logic? Thank you!
Cool app! But... it is working when I connect keyboard with cable (as shown) but not over bluetooth (I am using Korg Microkey AIR)... app like "piano companion" works over bluetooth and cable. Any chance Caustic will work over bluetooth one day?
i have a Polaroid 9,7" tablet that works ok with usb qwerty keyboard and also a wlan-dongle ..so the hostport seem ok..also i have a second usb port that works ok..You said you use Android 4.2 so maybe ICS does not recognise USB midi?did you test it?..i tried to connect to my laptop with usb cable of tablet and checked midi input but no signal either..
Hello, I bought my son the launchkey , I downloaded caustic 3 app, some of the keyboards on the app, work with sound, while using the launchkey but others have no sound, they just light up.. Any tips to get this working properly...Tks!..
I got a lpk25 connected to my android Chinese tablet 4.2.2 jellybean it turns on an everything but does not play the sound when I hit the keys whats my problem their ?
Hey dude, can an external battery be chained to this setup through an USB HUB to play on the go? I think I would run out of juice after half an hour (not much more) of fun with my HTC. Thank you!
I've got a more generic tablet, Model TWD_MDI, and it recognizes that a MIDI keyboard is plugged in but Caustic isn't recognizing it. Any suggestions??
No worries, sorry about the bug. And there's no "team" behind Caustic, just me.
Great app, been playing using touch screen , BUT.... besides an OTG cable what could be used with it to get better latency. I have the Note 8 by Samsung by the way. thanks
Sad
You are awesome person
Just you? WHAAAAAAT?
Dude, I *LOVE* Caustic.
Also, after struggling with MIDI for years (PC soundcards, GarbageBand, etc) this tutorial made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
@@alanmclean3292 brother do you face latency issue using this method?
This is really cool. 30 years playing synth and might grab this digital scene on the coolness factor alone!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE CAUSTIC! And thanks so much for great customer support. Just the fact that you have a MIDI video speaks amplitudes about you. I'm upgrading asap, and forever a supporter of your work, just like I am of Propellerheads & Ableton. caustic it's absolutely amazing 😎 it's almost like I have a tiny music studio now 😃
Jake Daniell u have no latency issue?
Naw there is none for me galaxy note 8

Can we do this yet. I'm looking for a gift for my 6 year old looking at tunamini midi and a galaxy app. Any help
Caustic version 2.1.2 just came out with a fix for midi controllers. I checked it with my Garagekey mini, and it works!
Thanks Caustic team!
Thank you for creating this. Its a great service to people from all around the world. Just what I needed and gonna buy It
Amazing....I still can't believe how good the Caustic app is! Are there going yo be any updates or new synths / effects?
we dont know, be we all are waiting for it.
It depends on the controller itself, some allow you to change channels 1-16, some have a limited range, some only map to Ch.1
On the MPK Mini, you can change to Ch1-4 using the "program" button. Hold program then press one of the "Prog" keys on the keyboard (small white text above the last keys). This way you can control the top 4 machines in Caustic.
There might be a way to map to different channels, I haven't read the full manual for the controller.

Best mobile DAW/music production app for android. Beats them all. This is a great app.
Those effects are already available as global send effects (see mixer), but they'll probably show up as separate inserts too in the future.
Yes, I'm pretty sure that if you use a powered USB hub, then the phone won't need to power anything but itself.
Thanks for fast response. I'll try some more testing with some new cables.
I just ordered an OTG USB cable for my Galaxy Tab 2.... will post up some video of it once I get it running with Caustic. Yay!
New favourite project
Awesome thank you! Especially with the quick response, I'm sitting here right now producing in your awesome app with my new USB adapter and constantly switching between channels was irritating me.
Have to say I love using it. Doing some great work with it on its own or in conjunction with FL 10.
watching from 2019. Thank you for the tutorial
Hi. Really appreciate Caustic, worth every cent! Will use it on my next gig with Datawelt. Looking forward to midi-learning implementation....
Any class-compliant MIDI device (one that doesn't require special drivers on PC/Mac) should work.

This is the Video that Made me start producing music thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
sampling capabilities are on the way...
Nice MIDI function, it works just for a few minutes then it ask you money, but it´s been nice, for a few minutes.
Caustic was my favorite Android DAW. I wish they would bring it back.
I have a ZTE Zmax. I got Caustic 3 working with my M-audio Keystation 88, wireless mouse, and keyboard using a USB hub and otg cable. Your computer keyboard can play the sounds also.
Thanks for the easy to follow straight forward video. I have a M Audio Ozone that I want to try this out with.
Works fine with my giant 49-key M-Audio keystudio, what model is yours? Does it even get power?
What about using a novation xiosynth which is a controller AND soundcard?
It would be great if I could use it as a tool to record with good quality. ALSO it has a hardware synth and can make pretty use able sounds
Please update the damn app for vocals

It works great. An already great app just got better
I llove the work your doing.
So can I use this as sound module for live church gigs on my keyboards?
It's been submitted, so as soon as the folks at AppWorld approve it.

It worked great on caustic 2 with my oxygen 49 midi controller but it does nothing with caustic 3 maybe it's not compatible with android 4.2
Caustic is such a packed app 👍👍👍
I'm in Brisbane and I had no trouble ordering 3 for 5$ from China on eBay...
Thank God for, I've been trying to figure this out. I have exactly the same set up.
Can I map out the knobs to control the effects?
And the Drum pads for finger drumming?
On an external MiDI
Spooky!!! I just bought the new MPK Pro last night. This video was #1 in my recommendations. google Be watchin!!!!!
What device? Does it support USB host mode? Have you tried connecting simpler USB things that work in Android like a keyboard or mouse?
When i plug my midi keyboard, then setting midi input, caustic doesnt show message usb controller preferences, i cant play with my midi device, no sound and no push keys on screen.

Great work. Now a recording in piano roll would be nice with after quantisation.
nice now I can turn my mini keyboard into a electronic melodica
Forgot to say - i using quad core noname chinese tablete with a31 cpu. I think modi realisation depends of which cpu is in your tablet or phone
Works good with my mpk mini and caustic 3 with last update, but still has big latency as other android application. Also midi works now in g-stomper, best application for music creation

how do I fix the latency I tried going to the menu and it's still won't play on time?
Andy Peri did u find a solution?
Make sure to enable Midi in the settings!
You rule dude. This really helped me.
Ok i got it working with my axiom25 and nexus 7 :)) took a bit of switching it off and on again but that's OK i spose. Sorry. (and yes the updated is submitted to Appworld, but hasn't come through approval yet)
wow looks nice! which controller would you recommend?
Very useful, thanks bro!
Doesn't seem to be compatible with my m-audio controller but still this is an awesome step forward in mobile music production

Yes, it works with 2.1.2 in demo mode. But, it will be disabled after just 1-2mins.
I'm having axiom air mini 32 midi keyboard. I'm having problem regarding setup with fl studio mobile. After connecting it with my phone's OTG, it's started illuminate my midi, but it didn't connect or access with my fl studio mobile. Can't you help me sir regarding this issue.
help please!
will it work if Ill connect a device or microphone into the 3.5 jack??
Might be worth picking up an android tab in future, playbook starting to get long in the tooth and the nexus 7's are very cheap.
Do all of the midi controls work now in the newest version?
Thanks so much! Your software is awesome. I can finally carry a studio in my pocket lol :)
Thank you!
This app is so amazing! I'm assuming this will work with the Rock Band keyboard?
What's the name of the app plzz
Fame 4rm Barz caustic 3 you dumbass
Just found my galaxy tab 4 and I'm glad to know midi support was added long before this thing was released. Thank you for this vid! (I know it works on my nexus 5X but you gotta make sure, right?
I am a Caustic user, however I also use a second DAW (gstomper). I would like to use the two DAWs simultaneously. Since both respond to MIDI in and MIDI out, Should I not be able to use them on the same device? My device of choice is the latest and greatest Samsung. All apps I've installed and tested have worked very nicely. Question here is, how do we make both apps talk to each other? I hope you will read and answer this. Both Caustic and GStomper are undoubtedly the best on the market and both talk to PCs, I assume they must talk MIDI to Adroids? CrazyCraig.

I just tried FlStudio mobile. Im amazed about the latency. When i connected the controller the latency was even better. I dont know why its not the case with Caustic. Idk how ImageLine did it but you should find out their secret because Caustic is still better imo. Its not complicated very easy userfriendly interface to work fast. ImageLine focus too much on graphics and animations. ImageLine meeds a big dose of SIMPLICITY in their interface. I want my track to sound good not my Daw to look cool.
Peťo D Can you do a tutorial on how to set it up with fl mobile? I'd reeeally appreciate it
Vibesonde i just plugged it in my phone and it worked
Peťo D ohhh, sounds simple enough
Vibesonde plug in and wait ull get a popup just tap ok and it should work
Peťo D alright, thanks bro
Hi, Caustic seems to be a great app. I found Caustic by looking for apps which support this feature (usb midi). However, it's not working with my miditech Garagekey mini which supposed to be standard usb midi. I could really had fun with it on the go since this keyboard fits into my backpack...
interesting. I have an m-audio oxygen 49 also a 49 key controller. it powers the controller I set midi setting accordingly but no response from the app it is still the best android music app
Thank you . What do you think about MPK ANDROID EDITOR?
Nowadays phones have become more powerful can you make another new video on this please
nope, just note ON/OFF for now
thank you. for your information.
Can Caustic send midi (clock or more)?
is it possible to use sounds and effects from a midi capable synth and add them to your song? or do you only use the midi to control the machines in caustic?
Hi!! Thanks for the video!
Is it possible to connect my yamaha electronic piano to Caustic using a midi-to-usb cable, or should I rather buy another midi keyboard? Thanks
Hi Alberto, did you get Caustic to work with your piano using usb to midi leads? I am thinking the same.. Thanks!
Hi, Dale! Yes, I managed to connect the keyboard to the phone but the latency is too high, becouse of the processor of the phone (Zenfone 2, 5 inches).
So I downloaded the pc version of Caustic and now I use my computer instead of the phone, without any problem..! :)
Is it possible, that I can use the drum Pads on my Akai MPK mini for the Beatbox?
From what he said, the pads are automatically mapped on whatever instrument is selected so it should work on beat box as well.
Working with my EWI USB. Latency is a bit high, and of course it's restricted to just notes, but otherwise does what it says on the tin. :)
the app is awesome! one question; will this work with a korg microkey 37?
Hey! I love Caustic. I’ve been using it from 2016… I just bought it for my iPhone. There is a Bluetooth problem it won’t connect to any device such… I hope you could solve this problem or tell us if you have a new project going on…
This app hasn't been supported for years. Any problems that exist now will exist forever.
Thank you, that leads to question number two.
Is there any support for MIDI *wind* controllers? I mean, some configuration so that the volume is pumped up and down according to my breath pressure, and the like.
Thank you!!
Is this supposed to work on Demo Version as well?
Thanks for the amazing work you guys do.
yes, it works in demo but times out after a few minutes. But only after something has been connected.
wow just what I need for finger drumming on my android, can I connect the Akai MPD218 pad?
Thank you for this video. Is there a way to connect the Android phone to a DAW like Logic Pro in order to record some sounds of an app in Logic? Thank you!
Amazon is another good place to grab that usb OTG (on the go) cable.
Cool app! But... it is working when I connect keyboard with cable (as shown) but not over bluetooth (I am using Korg Microkey AIR)... app like "piano companion" works over bluetooth and cable. Any chance Caustic will work over bluetooth one day?

which app u using???
Hello, I bought my son the launchkey , I downloaded caustic 3 app, some of the keyboards on the app, work with sound, while using the launchkey but others have no sound, they just light up.. Any tips to get this working properly...Tks!..
I don't know, I don't have one to test with...
Thank you!
I've got a more generic tablet,
Model TWD_MDI, and it recognizes that a MIDI keyboard is plugged in but Caustic isn't recognizing it.
Any suggestions??
I have a galaxy tab 2 ....will i face any latency??
