I had the biggest smile on my face when I saw this the first time. This was so beautiful and so heartwarming, shout out to the animation team and also shout out to Shannon's narration. Ozpin=Best storyteller ever!!
when i heard that the maidens would visit every year i thought it meant through the actual seasons, i know they said that the maidens actually existed but i figured it was symbolic
+ljaquos To be completely honest, I've been thinking about it. That's my username on League of Legends too. The only reason I haven't is because of my gamertags on PSN and Xbox.
MurderofBirds Dude you should totally do it. I went through and changed all of my stuff to Legal Wrights now that I've started making Ace Attorney games on AAO. Gotta say, I feel better for having done it. xD
+ljaquos I also second this! - I changed my last username into *Lady Nevermore* and I haven't regret it since. ^-^ Plus, I gotta admit that *MurderofQrows* would be a pretty badass username to have! x)
The emotions in Ozpin's voice when telling the story makes it sound like he was actually there and involved. I'd be surprised if he wasn't the wizard.. Admittedly, I also wouldn't.
+KaiGamer I actually have an alternate theory. The wizard cast a spell on himself that allowed his memories to be passed on to a new host in the same way that the Maiden powers get passed down. When the original wizard died, his memories and experiences and knowledge went to a new holder (think Noah/Lutz/Rune from Phantasy Star). Ozpin is the current holder of this knowledge.
Sorry guys, but there are a couple editing hiccups that occurred in the video. I hope they aren't too bad and that you still enjoy the video! For some reason, from 7:50 - 8:00, there's a brief video freeze that came about during editing. And at 15:53, there's a black screen that occures during the jump cut and lasts about 3 seconds. Not clue why these issues came about, but just wanted you guys to be aware. Hope you enjoy the video regardless.
I don't think the old man is ozpin why ? Well remember when oz stead he gave all his magic to the maidens the magic the would mostly keep him alive which is now gone and I think people are jumping the gun thinking it's him because we don't know shit about him so we should wait a bit
I stumbled across your videos due to the rwby shout outs of your video, and I cannot thank you enough for your videos. I rarely watch videos of people reacting to rwby but I actually enjoy watching the newest episodes with you instead of the just the new episode alone. Keep up the good work man! :)
I don't necessarily think that it is Ozpin. Though I think Ozpin is related to the Wizard. My thought is that the Wizard is Ozpin's brother. When the maidens didn't return to visit (either due to death or something else) he grew more and more angry and resentful, perhaps feeling he had wasted his powers, eventually creating the Grimm as revenge. Ozpin and the Wizard would be the Brothers Grimm. Which fits the fairy tale theme that this show has. This would also explain who Cinder was reporting to in the flashback episode and why she is saying that they will "retake what is theirs".
+Hylia's Hero It would be a interesting twist but I think it was said the Grimm existed before humanity or at least as long as they remember, meaning whatever created them happened probably before the wizards time unless it was done in his youth.
+Inspector Who Reacts Well if we are going off of the opening of episode 1, it was said that Man was wise, resourceful, etc and that they flourished for a short time before the appearance of Grimm threatened to return Man to the void. Additionally in the World of Remnant: Grimm episode it is stated that they feed exclusively on humans and do not generally deal with animals.
Good to see you around. I found your channel very recently but I've come to see you're a pretty good reactor who loves RWBY. I look forward to more videos! Keep up the good work!
The promise to return is symbolic of how the seasons always return every year. Its a bittersweet sort of thing too since it also acknowledges the mortality of the maidens but the eternal life of the wizard who now (if Ozpin) works to protect his beloved maidens throughout the centuries
This theory is from MasochisticHero, he posted in roster theet site: "But by default, i think team rwby will inherit all the maiden's powers. Their parallelism to the seasons are too recurring. Well, on themes: team rwby Ruby-spring Yang-summer Blake-fall Weiss-winter But... They say summer rose is the summer maiden. So ruby rose may be summer. But summer maiden has a fire theme, and only cinder and yang had fire. I don't know if cinder's semblance has something to do with fire, but yang's semblace is drawing strenght from hits. Maybe the fire is a side effect of that, but yeah. Ruby's semblance is speed. But she has rose petals all over. She can be spring or fall. But spring is a better option. But her trailer is set in winter. But maybe that's because ruby still has to grow further to reach her spring. But i don't know, since amber practically froze the edges of the leaves, but that may be her semblance. Weiss is totally not the embodiment of the winter maiden. Her sister winter is the better option. Meaning, they are gonna kill off winter to have weiss mature. I have no idea how blake embody the fall maiden. But the fall maiden's power is now in question. Phyrra is definately mature enough to be the fall maiden. But i think phyrra will reject the responsibility. I also think that blake will be a leader and reform the white fang. Since autumn embody change, i believe blake will change the white fang for the better. Also... I guess the wizard's power also transfer. How else do they visit him each year? Ozpin, i think he is the host of the wizard's power, is so gonna die, and jaune will take his place as the wizard. Jaune's no comic relief." I found it interesting, what do you think about it?
+Julio Ramirez The way I kinda view the powers of the maidens is that they have control elements of the season itself but can pull a bit from the previous and next season like the transitional months for ex fall can have bad storms and also has a history of getting freezing cold near the end of the month which are usually seen as traits from summer and winter respectively so as such the fall maiden can use lightning and freeze things. but thats just my thoughts on it
I loved this episode because we got even more backstory on the original 4 maidens and their story. I think this is a very important World of Remnant for RWBY overall. I love the personalities of the different Maidens. I also love all the designs but especially Summer's and Spring’s design. I also the personality of the old man. I love the fact that he's a wizard because I think it means Remnant used to be full of magic and I wonder what changed that. I love that this episode was basically a story about an old man becoming happy again. I love that the original Maidens helped people because they had the ability to. I have a theory that the old man is Ozpin and his Semblance has something to do with time and has made him practically immortal. I think this not only because of the resemblance of the old man and Ozpin but because I believe the character not just the actor for Ozpin narrates the World of Remnant episodes. This would not mean anything except for the fact of how he voices the different characters in a way I think only someone who was there would be able to. I think the only other option that makes sense is for Ozpin to be a descendent of the old man.
I get the feeling Spring was killed. If we assume each maiden founded a different kingdom, based on their personalities... Winter-Atlas Fall-Vale Summer- Vacuo (Seems to be a hot place, where shirt and ties aren't common) Spring- Mistral If Cinder hails from Mistral, that seems to me that that's where her 'boss' is too. And I think her boss also has maiden powers, as Cinder didn't go after her own kingdom's maiden, but Vale's. Not to mention she had to hear about the maidens from someone. I think Cinder was a student at Haven, and the current Spring maiden a professor. Cinder seems kind of young in that flashback.
+Nike Wall Also, it's likely the brotherhood has no idea that Spring is already against them, as when talking about Cinder, they make it seem like she's the only one.
If anything spring is from vale. It's the only color and consistent across all the WORs and both tellings of the story. Vale and Spring have always been green.
Evan Allen Well, going back and looking at episode 6, it seems Pyrrha got Summer and Fall mixed up, as in the WoR, Fall is the orange short haired girl and summer is the purple long haired girl. So I'm not sure if they were paying that much attention to the color, but you could be right. But I will say if Spring is Vale's maiden, where is she now when they needed a guardian?
Actually Qrow mentioned that if they do not know which person gets the power (in case the last maiden thinks of a dude or an "old hag") it makes their jobs "a lot harder". Which implies they actually have to SEARCH for them. I also think Ozpin COULD be the old man, but I tend more towards the theory that he is somehow related to that old man, maybe the old man is/was his father or something like that. Or one of his ancestors. I think this world of Remnant was chosen 100% right. The lighheartedness kind of lifted the shock of the last few episodes for everyone from what I have seen. And I think that was their intention. Also, is it only me or does Summer seem a lot like Ruby in personality? (maybe it's wishful thinking).
+Sneaky Dexter What if the Old dust noodle shop Man IS the old man, and what if he's... Ozpin's dad? I know it's a crazy theory I thought I'd just throw in there.
Handtomouth 8991 Idk. Spring is a little bit too all friendly around. Plus the color scheme and the clothes don't fit. Neither do the flowers (symbolism-wise). Of course we have to keep in mind this is all probably just very subtle hints if there even is something to take from that
Theory time for the end of the season: I feel like the cliffhanger for this season is going to be something along the lines of Ozpin having to resign as headmaster due to whatever mayhem happens in the next three episodes and we will see him go home and it will be the same house in this WOR and the current maidens will be there also paralleling the dumbledore-esque theme where he was forced to resign probably not gonna happen but wow would that be a painful year long cliffhanger
I agree, with how it's kind of like in Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the episode The Storm, we learn that they determine who the new avatar is by placing the child in front of a thousand toys and having them choose 4. With the past lives influencing their subconscious thought, the child picks out the same for toys as the previous avatars did. I think it's like that, where the original maiden consciousness subtly tells the maiden to go visit the wizard. However after the first time, I think he would explain it, and she would just go their by herself without having to be told by her powers.
Every single time i watch this WoR video, I am moved to tears by the sheer magnitude of the story, and it makes the entire existence of the four maidens that much more interesting and awesome! It's such a really good story!
After that recent heart-wrenching episode, last week - I think it's safe to say that this cheery World of Remnant Episode was very much deserved. Also, did anyone else get a *_Harvest Moon_* vibe here ( _especially in regards to the music_ ) or was that just me? ...Either way it totally made me smile and it left me with a strong urge to play some *_Harvest Moon: Magical Melody_* lol :3 I also agree, and definitely think that Ozpin is the lone Wizard here, either that, or that he is a direct descendant of his. But Anyways - Great Reaction as always, Arnold! :)
Maybe only the memories and knowlege is passed along with the power, not the conscienceness(the soul) itself. Maybe thats why they remember the promise. Remember what Glinda Goodwitch said on the episode were pyrrah meets Ember; "Much like the seasons chage, No two summers are alike", all the new maidens have their own personality and independence from the past maiden.
First off just wanted to say I found your vids a few days ago and I think they are amazing love how attached you are to the world, I'm much the same just I don't show my reactions as much. Now then on to what I wanted to say, if we are to believe everything Ozpin says he can't be the wizard in the story because when talking to Pyrrha he said the tale was around from when he was a boy. What it could be is Ozpin is related to the wizard, and the wizard's longevity is a hereditary trait like the Schnee's semblance. Also just remembered something else, just after they enter the vault Crow says that if the power goes to someone random their job gets harder, if your theory of the link to all the past lives is true they would just have to wait for at most a year for when the new maiden comes to visit the wizard.
On Ozpin being the Wizard? I'm 50/50 on that. I feel he is, but I also kinda want to believe that the Wizard is someone else and Ozpin just knows so much about him and the maidens. Like he's a descendant or a guardian and that his "possible" time powers helps him to ensure they're protected.
I don't think this is too out there as a guess... but seeing as, from what we've seen, Winter isn't the Winter Maiden (although it would explain why Ironwood keeps her around) I think she might be named after the Winter Maiden. Potentially the same for Ruby's mum, Summer, and the summer maiden. If such is the case maybe Winter/Weiss mother is/was the winter maiden, Summer's mother the summer maiden and each intended to pass the power down to their children rather than let it fall into the hands of someone more nefarious. In the case of Ruby's grandmother being the maiden it would make sense, in little red riding-hood the grandmother is an important character and if she is still alive (going by the story) bad things are going to happen to her (eaten by a wolf)
I would say the promise 'that they would visit every year,' is sorta like a metaphor. That each time their power transfers is to a maiden that the wizard already knows like 'pyhrra'.
I can agree with Ozpin being the wizard, because be did say he has made more mistakes then anyone . . . and I think with that said he would of lived longer to make those mistakes.
The yearly visit might be a necessity for the regaining of the power. Like.. The year draws to a close and the Four have to come together to the wizard for him to bestow the powers again. Just a thought
These World of Remnant videos always directly tie into what we see in the series so I'm pretty sure that the reason that they gave us this bit of information is because in the next episode Cinder will be going after the Fall Maiden (which is part of the reason she caused all of this madness). I also find it interesting that the maidens meet up with the old man once a year. This could simply be eluding to how the seasons come every year OR it could mean that the maidens still meet up once a year at some specific place.
I think Ozpin is the wizard. From the colors of the Maidans I think the characters that could be maidens are Winter/Weiss Amber/Prryha Raven and possibly Glynda
He's got silver eyes, so my guess is he's an ancestor of Ruby, hence why Ozpin was so interested in her eye color in the first episode. Plus, I think, since this was the actual children's fairy tale, the promise to come back and visit every year is a reference to the actual seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Besides, while the promise may well have been literal in the original maidens' cases, the powers have changed hands countless times, and they aren't together anymore.
Visiting the Old Wizard might just be some sort of compelling urge that the Maidens feel upon receiving the power. They could simply be drawn to him by the power itself.
Thank you another great reaction video. :) I also like your Ozpin theory. I didn't even think of that when I first watched the video on the Rooster Teeth website. It would makes things very interesting if you end up being right. Either way, the animation style they used for this week's video was very beautiful. Now we all just have to prepare for next week's chaotic episode (if they release it).
I know the feeling about the emotional impact of Ep 9. The first time I watched it, my heart was going a mile a minute from before it even started. I must have seen it a good 9 or 10 times since then and my heart STILL goes on overdrive, but not as much. It'll get better.
Okay so, first off, YESSSS this World of Remnant was just so good! I loved the animation and art style and I loved your analysis. I think that you are correct about your assumption that Cinder jumped Amber on her way to Ozpin. I mean, it makes sense. That's assuming that, like we all think, Ozpin is indeed the old man. And, for the sake of this whole comment, Ozpin is the old man. However that has some implications: 1 - Cinder knows about the Maiden's general locations and habits (so she knew when and where to ambush Amber) 2 - Cinder knows that the old man is alive and kicking and either knows Ozpin's true identity OR at the very least knows that the old man is in Vale. I mean, she had to know where Amber was headed to to cut off her path, right? (Although, we don't know for sure she was headed to Vale, once again I'm assuming it's Ozpin she was going to visit) Now, about the promise the Maidens did. I think that it may be kind of an unconscious pull. Something like a feeling of "I should be here." that prods and beckons the Maidens towards Ozpin. I mean, it's kind of ludicrous to think that the new Maidens would know instinctively like "Oh I got powers now. Oh I should go visit this guy I never heard about before." Anyways, back to the promise. Like you said, Fall was supposed to be the last one arriving. Well then, let's go through the order, right? First comes Winter. Huh. Where did I hear this name before? Yes sir, I believe Ice Queen 2.0, our very own Winter Schnee is, indeed, the Winter Maiden. And... well, she HAS visited Ozpin, right? Even if briefly. Is it an obvious choice? Yes. But then again, she did visit Ozpin. I don't see another winter-themed character hanging out with Ozpin for any period of time. Next comes Spring. Spring is the hardest of the four sisters to really theorize about in my opinion. There are no names, no semblances, no nothing, that symbolize Spring, to my knowledge. (Unless you count Ren's symbol but, ya know, dudes can't be Maidens) However, I remembered a saying. The saying goes "hope springs eternal". And that made me think "Well, maybe there's hope for Penny." And suddenly "Wait a second! Spring is the season where all that was dead comes back to life and blooms once more!" What if Penny is a dormant Spring Maiden in training?! She said it herself, she was made so that one day she would save the world! That's the only reason why she came to the tournament in the first place! I realize that I am reaching far for this one. But my hope (lol) is that Penny will be rebuilt and her Spring Maiden's powers will be awakened. And then she can visit Ozpin. Summer... Summer is a touchy subject for me. It all depends on whether or not Summer Rose is actually dead. If she is alive and kicking and in hiding, Summer Rose is my number 1 candidate to be the Summer Maiden. (Maidens SHOULD be hidden away from the world after all) If not... well, we know of another young woman who has been in hiding for a long time. Raven Branwen Why Raven? Well... her portal back in Volume 2, episode 11. After she saved Yang. It kinda has the same visual effects as Cinder's flaming pillars when she fights Glynda aaaaaaaall that time ago in Volume 1, episode 1. That and all the hush hush, secret secret kinda deal with her, I mean, why did she disappear? (hint: if she's a Maiden, she had to go into hiding, just like I said Summer would do if she was alive) Which means we might see one of them in Beacon pretty soon. And finally, the Fall Maiden. With Amber on life support and half the Fall Maiden's powers and Pyrrha just about ready to decide whether or not to take them, and Cinder having the other half, it's anyone's guess, really. Who even knows if the powers will go to one of them? Maybe Amber dies and the power goes to someone random? It's unlikely but who knows? Either way, we simply don't have enough information to make a guess here. Will Cinder get the full powers and we'll have a 3 vs 1 Maiden Showdown? Will Pyrrha inherit the Fall Maiden's powers? We simply don't know. Wow. This was extensive. Sorry to make you read all that. :P I hope this has given you some food for thought. XD Can't wait for Episode 10! See you there! :D
New sub!!! Hey Murder! I recently got into rwby like 2 weeks ago?! Bingewatched the whole thing up to the recent episode! I'm absolute trash for this series! Best thing ive ever seen! I l love your videos and how you portray emotion! Hope your channel grows even more! PS: Oz is the wizard! I KNOW HE IS!
I love how the story is told entirely by one narrator who changes his inflection for all of the characters in said story, instead of giving each Maiden a voice actress. It makes it feel more like a bedtime story that's being read to a child by their parent. EDIT: I almost forgot! Ozpin is the TIIIME WIZARRRD! Now all we need is BAAABY DRAAAGON!
winter schnee looks just like winter from this wor. and she fits the qaulities a good fighter, winter like personality, ect. she could be the maiden or next in line.
+Megan Pinkerton It just seems too coincidental to me. I think Winter's importance in the story, at least for this volume, is over for the most part. She might come bringing Blue One (The three ships in Ironwood's fleet are Blue Two, Blue Three, and Blue Four. We have yet to see Blue One, which is probably his flagship) to help in the battle, but I think she'd just be the cavalry leader, like Eomer at the end of the Two Towers, or the Centaurs in the Deathly Hallows. The obvious next candidate would be Weiss, but it'd have to be someone important to the current Maiden.
I think that Ozpin could be the Wizard, which is why Oz is narrating the story and why everyone in the RWBY seems to look to Ozpin as the leader or the one person they all go to. Also what if, even after the sisters have long died and their powers go to another, the one who receives their power visits the Wizard every year.
I believe that Amber being the new Maiden and remembered a promise the original Fall Maiden made. Is most likely Memories of each Maiden is transfered to the new maiden but the memories of the new maiden are not lost. if you remember when Cinder mentioned the power hurts and starving. The Idea of the powers being drained but not all of Falls powers were not fully taken. Also the idea that the powers also have different side effects like for example: If you show kindness to others don't show revenge or anger the powers won't burn or feel like their starving but it you have Revenge anger and hate you will feel like it does burn and is starving.
I think the Maiden powers would be similar to the LoZ Links, it would be more circumstance rather than a bodily takeover. The successors know what the others knew, and as such can remember the promise.
+Brandon Lee (MonsterMasher) The thing is though, all the Links don't have any of the others' memories or anything, but have the potential to get all the same skills and knowledge, through the power of the Triforce of Courage and the blessing of the goddesses. I'd say it's more like the Avatar cycle, like Murder mentioned.
The first time watching this World of Remnant, though better animated, I thought it was meh....but watching your reaction to it made me like it so much more! Your excitement and feelings about it became mine! It is infectious. It is true. You DO give us life, Murder! Thank you.
I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT SO! Literally the episode we were introduced to the Story of the Seasons, I thought it was odd the way he said it was around when he was a boy. And if that old man isn't him, then he has to be the wizard's son, they even called him a wizard this time!
Man I'm so glad to see you back, i re-watched the whole volume with your reactions. And yeah Ozpin has to be this wizard, but something that has been bothering me it's that The wizard of Oz was a fraud... it's Ozpin sharing this with Oz? I'm sure they'll talk about this later. Keep it up buddy ;)
You bring up really interesting points about the maiden's promise to visit the wizard every year, and I too have questions about this concept. Like, for instance, when the power is stolen by someone evil, does that mean the original maiden's spirit tries to fight the host? I mean it looks like Cinder's doing all right so far, but as far as we know she is the only one who has managed to split the power from a maiden in this way (or I believe to split it at all?). I wonder if it is only the power (and not the maiden's spirit as well) that transfers from host to host, in which case Ozpin would literally have to find the next maiden every single time a maiden dies and tell the new one what's up. For all we know Ozpin could have told the same story he told to Pyrrha countless times before...
I think by visiting every year they are talking about the actual seasons witch come back every year. Its an fairy tale afterall. never think too far with fairy tales.
One thing that hit me just now is that I think debunks the the Idea that Oz is the Wizard is that Ozpin himself said that the maiden story since he was a "boy" meaning he can't be the "old man" the maidens didn't exist until then. Unless of course he was lying, or the old man still had a way to gain a new body via spirit transfer or Time Lord regeneration, but I feel it's just too easy for him and the old man to be one and the same. Also if you haven't by chance seen any of Swarley Underhill's rwby reviews videos, you should check em out. They're done with really awesome and insightful.
But for however long the Old man lived (im not convinced it's Ozpin) *he was* visited every year by Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring (the seasons not the Maidens) it is a story on the Origin of the seasons is it not? Unless your saying the actual Seasons existed before he gave the powers.... in which case it's awfully co-incidental they were named those seasons
Ok last one, it seems strange to talk about this now because it feels like we won't have this brought up until at least volume 4 but the Winter maiden, I feel she's the Schnee ancestor and the current one the Schnee mom (Who btw we have not heard a single thing about) and I think the whole Schnee family is dedicated to keeping the Winter maiden purely in their bloodline but because of recent troubles with the white fang it was too much of a risk having her in such danger and was probably told that she had to leave and go into hiding by the Maiden's Brotherhood. I could ramble on this for a long while so I'll just leave it there for now.
Ozpins eyes are too dark compared to the Wizards aren't they? When he was outside the wizards eyes kinda looked Silver to me although I should point out that "the dress" was white and gold to me so I probably got bad eyesight
+SleepingGiant His eyes DID look silver! Remember in episode 1 volume 1 when Ozpin took notice to Ruby's silver eyes out of nowhere? Possibly foreshadowing from episode 1? COULD THIS POSSIBLY MEAN RUBY'S A MAIDEN?????? But that's just a theory,a ga....shit nevermind.
+IM ON A HORSE Cool theories and all, but only thing I have to say is that maidens don't have silver eyes (unless they are just born with silver eyes and happen to become maidens).
Silver eyes clearly mean something They cannot be common or Ozpins first line means nothing, it's either Supernatural in Origin or it alludes to heritage (genetics) and yes none of the *Maidens* had silver eyes, but maybe just maybe someone descended from the Wizard would..
saying this as I'm watching the video but I'm calling it at the old man is the shopkeeper its funny thinking oz is doing the voices for the females when he's telling the story to people
I ended up watching this after the series proper and as soon as the Winter Maiden showed up I was immediate struck by how similar she looked to Salem. Now, I'm not confidently enough to come out and claim they're the same person but if that turns out to be the case, I really only have one question: What happened to her? What made her so hard and bitter that she feels the need to end all human life?
I feel that the Wizard is going to regret giving those gifts to the Maidens. And I am still not certain if the Wizard is Ozpin, maybe the Wizard is Ozpin's ancestor or a Master to him.
One crack/joke theory I created ever since the Maidens were mentioned in Episode 6 was the Shopkeeper being the Old Wizard. I'll just drop it off for you to enjoy. By the way, your videos are awesome and are a pleasure to watch. Keep it up. :) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "Recall the story Ozpin told Pyrrha with the old man and the four women. This man was capable of bestowing ultra-specific powerful magical properties to these four women. If so, who is he? Just how strong is this guy? The story said that the old man was a reclusive and quiet person. There's only one other old man in this entire show. And that is the Shopkeep. Let me explain how this theory can possibly work by examining the evidence. Firstly, the Shopkeep's capabilities. He is capable of superhuman strength and speed. When the Shopkeep flung Weiss's credit card onto the table, it made a large crack that could only happen through extreme amounts of force and pressure. When the Shopkeep created Blake's lunch almost instantly, that gave a demonstration of his superhuman speeds as well. Therefore, it is feasible that the Shopkeep is probably the strongest unimportant character in RWBY. Secondly, the Shopkeep is relatively mute and is a man of few words. The only attributable dialogue he has said was, "Please! J-Just take my Lien and leave!" Aside from that, the rest of his dialogue has been grunts or "Uh-Huh" or "Mhm". The old man in the story was also quiet and reclusive in nature, so it isn't too far-fetched to assume that he hasn't changed in a thousand or so years. It was confirmed in this World of Remnant that the old man himself said that he has lived for centuries. Thirdly, everything the Shopkeep did when confronted by Roman had to be a farce so as to not look suspicious. Wouldn't it be strange to see an old man be capable of taking down a gang of thugs? So, as to avoid suspicion of being the wizard he is, he cleverly hides that under a false identity. Fourthly, the Shopkeep has been shown to be running numerous businesses and seems to always be wherever the protagonists end up. That is to say, it isn't too far-fetched to assume that the Shopkeep is either wholly capable of using magic to teleport, or has used magic to make numerous clones of himself. It would also explain why he tends to show up wherever the protagonists are, as he is secretly a crucially important character and we never suspected it from the start. He could have also used magic to just stay old forever, which was demonstrated in point two. With magic, he could have simply kept his old appearance, only choosing to shave his beard and spike out his hair. Fifthly, the Shopkeep has run a total of three businesses. The "Dust Till Dawn Dust shop", "A Simple Wok", and the Noodle Stand at the fairgrounds. Three also equates to the number of assistants that Cinder has. Three plus one equals four, which is the same number that the Old Man in the story gave some magic powers to. However, Fall's power was split into two, so we can divide four by two, which gives us two. There are two characters we can speculate have the Seasons Powers aside from Cinder, who are Summer and Winter. That makes three people total who were/are potential candidates for the magic powers. A triangle has three sides, and the Illuminati are also a triangle. Therefore, the Shopkeep is Illuminati confirmed. Discuss."
I think Ozpin is the wizard also. He's probably based on the Wizard of Oz, along with Glinda Goodwitch, & Ironwood being the tin man. The Maiden's consciousness probably transfer like on Avatar the Last Airbender/Korra. The consciousness don't overtake their host, except in the avatar state. Yet the current avatar gets visions from past lives. So that's probably how the maidens know to go visit the wizard....that's probably where Amber was headed before being ambushed by Cinder's crew (aka team CMEN--Cinder, Mercury, Emerald & Neo).
Here's my theory. Okay, so remember how Weiss's sister was named WINTER. And how had her hair in the SAME STYLE (a bun around the back, with some going down). And remember how she can summon and how she was powerful in the fight with Qrow. I'm thinking that Winter Schnee might either be the Winter Maiden. She visited Ospin in the tournament, she was privy to the information about the other Maidens, etc... Maybe she is in line to be the next Winter Maiden. And also, maybe her sister will end up being a Winter Maiden. But I don't think it's a coincidence that they made all this hoopla about the Four Maidens, and beat us over the head about Fall, but would have only incidentally put a girl, who is in her prime, named WINTER, who happens to have Ice powers like her little sister Weiss. So I think we should look to that character development more. Also, do you think that maybe Cinder is already a Maiden? The Summer Maiden was mischeavous and playful and had powers to star fires - like Cinder. So to summarize my prediction. Winter Schnee is the Winter Maiden, and Cinder is the Summer Maiden, who wants to consolidate the powers of all the other maidens.
I think you're onto something with the transfer of consciousness/memories bit. It could be how they found out that the maidens' powers are transferred to the last girl they thought of before dying (I mean how do you figure out something like that to begin with). The RWBY team are also fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, so I wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from that too.
I feel like Amber was off to visit the old man when Emerald attacked her. Perhaps Qrow was protecting him, and she was near, but he managed to see the action from over the trees and bolted over
Amber is fall since she's the fall maiden but, since it is a fairy tail they change her name to fall. I'm sure it could be ozpin and the other maidens could be alive since amber was still living as the e.dest that means the others may still be alive.
My question is: If Oz indeed is the wizard, and he has some sort of power that stops him from aging or makes him age really slow, wouldn't normal people figure it out? I mean, we don't know how long he's been a headmaster. It could be decades or centuries. You think if people knew he was somewhat close to being immortal they wouldn't trust him as much?
Good review video Murder, but I got a few thoughts of my own. This WoR was such a great relief to watch after everything that happened in PvP. But, I have to talk about PvP and bring a few things up. Now, I'm not sure if this has been brought up before. What if Penny (who was a robot with an Aura) combined with Amber's aura (or what was left of it), therefore Penny's "soul" would transfer into "a real girl's body" and they would become one? Pinocchio anyone? This could be a possible solution to the situation that Pyrrah finds herself in. However, Pyrrah said she would already become the next Fall maiden, even tho we know she wasn't expecting it and wanted to be a huntress in the first place. But seeing now that she has destroyed Penny by accident, does she still want to be Fall maiden now? If Penny's Aura can be combined with Amber's, then Penny in some way shape or form would be essentially alive again. That would, I guess in some way also relieve the conscience of Pyrrah, Ruby and the emotional shock they got at the end of PvP. Another thought just occurred, hence the reason for this EDIT: So, you're all saying (well at least some of you are saying) that Ozpin is the wizard or connected to him in some way. If that is the case (which I feel is for me), then he now has another way to save Penny, Pyrrah and Amber. He could use his power to stabilize and maintain Penny's dying aura during a transfer process that would transfer her aura to Amber. Now, Amber is in a weakened state, a coma, she might be just too weak to survive this process with the wreck that Pyrrah is now. If Pyrrah's aura reflects her emotional state in any way, it might not revive Amber, and the idea of Pyrrah becoming the next Fall maiden would not work. Penny's aura, I believe is much stronger and was not as heavily emotionally burdened as Pyrrah's is now.
After the old man gave magic to the maidens, you can see the old mad holding on to a cane. Who else hold on to a cane..Ozpin. Similar hair, eye color, and color scheme.
I think the line "promise to visit every year" Is just the seasons itself. The seasons are visiting, not really the maidens visiting. It's kind of up in the air right now.
+ivana harris Nah they are planning to have around 9 volumes min. Does anybody know when the next season will start? I presume around late Summer, early Fall right?
Amber had all the power of all 4 maidens. That's why Cinder was after her. Which means Amber previously meet all 4 maidens and is why they are going through so much trouble to ensure Cinder doesn't recieve all that power.
Maybe the Maiden's... soul? Essence? Spirit? It's naturally _added_ to the new host, so that the new maidens have some memories that aren't theirs, but still blend with them, like they just learn many things overnight. I don't know, I'm just trying to make this passing on of powers a bit more friendly. Cinder didn't "inherit" any personality from Amber, as far as I can tell. She stays her nasty self. As for Ozpin, I think you may be right that he is the old wizard from the story, or when a wizard dies, his power moves to a new host like the Maidens' does. That would give both the Maidens and the Wizard a very long memory.
IRT Ozpin, well I have had a few suspicions about him for quite some time. Based off the Color Naming Rule put in place by Monty himself with a note that specifies that Ozpin didn't follow it. By that and Oz's speech during Vol 2 Chapter 8 about the aftermath of a war 80 years ago... at the very least I'm positive he's older then that war that has been mentioned numerous times in passing. His telling Ruby in V1C10 about making more mistakes then any man or woman as well Glenda's comment to Ironwood in V2C10 about Oz having more experience then anyone only lend credence to it IMO. After hearing Pyrrha's version of the tale I did entertain the idea of him being the wizard, not quite enough side evidence either way just yet for that end however, though with him likely being at least a century or older, it's not too much of a stretch. Also, has any one else noticed that the chapter 8s seem to be pivot points for the volumes so far? Vol 1 the teams form, Vol 2 they start on the ending 'quest' for the season and now in Vol 3 seems more a fracture point for the season then a 'pivot'.
I really don't think Ozpin is the old wizard. So far, he's never lied about anything, so i guess we can trust the guy when he says something. When Pyrrha and him were talking about the story of the four maidens, he said "Would you believe me if i told you that this one was around when "I" was a boy ?" hinting that he might indeed be very old ( add his "I've made more mistakes than any man, woman and child on this planet" in Vol1 to this theory) but the story seems to predate him by quite some time (enough for a story to become a tale). And we can cross the reincarnation theory since the old wizard is supposed to still be around even "now"
I know Ozpin being the wizard is the most obvious thing to do, but I really don't think that would make a tremendous amount of sense as a hypothesis. Its logic would depend on whether or not the wizard's magic was earned or innate. If it were earned through hard work, there's no reason he couldn't just regain the power he gave away, and if he did, he certainly would be more powerful than he seems to be. If it were innate, then giving it away wouldn't be an issue, but he would have died centuries ago, almost immediately after giving it away.
Personally, I don't think Ozpin is the Wizard, but I'm not ruling out a link between the two. You mention he's a Timelord as a joke, but my line of thinking is that he is, pretty much. What if Ozpin is a reincarnation of the Wizard, or a direct descendant, and is channeling the wizard, or hosting his soul/sembelence. He says the story of the maidens has been around since he was a boy, after all, and though it could be a lie, it could also be taken at face value. There's also the matter of his speech to the new students waaaaay back in episode 3 of volume one, where he is acting strangely, and Yang notes that it's like he 'wasn't all there'. What if he wasn't? What if there was a part of him that was absent, the Wizard part off somewhere else doing who knows what? Plus, there was that ending to one of the last volume's World of Remnant videos that implies Ozpin has become something more than human, not that he was more than human to start with. I don't know, it's just a theory, but I feel that Ozpin just straight up being the wizard is too simple.
I feel as if oz would be the wizard. I think with the maidens they will appear in the 11th or 12th episode because you have fall, but she came too early by this time it be spring and if I'm implying this right Winter just left lol
In regards to Ozpin, one of the other World of Remnant (perhaps Aura), says that expertise controlling aura and semblance can make you more than a man; with the camera looking at Ozpin. Could mean something, could be nothing.
I think Ozpin is the Wizzard and i also this if he his and grant the maidens this much power. This was one of the mistakes he was talking to Ruby? I dont think that he knews they get haunted and killed by people who wants the power of the Maides so he make a secrelty brotherhood to make sure he can protect the Maidens.
I gotta say, I'm surprised you haven't gone ahead and changed your name to MurderOfQrows yet
+ljaquos To be completely honest, I've been thinking about it. That's my username on League of Legends too. The only reason I haven't is because of my gamertags on PSN and Xbox.
MurderofBirds
Dude you should totally do it. I went through and changed all of my stuff to Legal Wrights now that I've started making Ace Attorney games on AAO. Gotta say, I feel better for having done it. xD
+ljaquos I also second this! - I changed my last username into *Lady Nevermore* and I haven't regret it since. ^-^
Plus, I gotta admit that *MurderofQrows* would be a pretty badass username to have! x)
Not qrow but crow
The emotions in Ozpin's voice when telling the story makes it sound like he was actually there and involved.
I'd be surprised if he wasn't the wizard.. Admittedly, I also wouldn't.
+KaiGamer I actually have an alternate theory. The wizard cast a spell on himself that allowed his memories to be passed on to a new host in the same way that the Maiden powers get passed down. When the original wizard died, his memories and experiences and knowledge went to a new holder (think Noah/Lutz/Rune from Phantasy Star). Ozpin is the current holder of this knowledge.
+Diamond Dog Good comparison, but just a slight correction: there were only 3 brothers in the story of the Deathly Hallows. :P
oooo damn a year later and this was so spot on
KaiGamer This comment aged well...
+MurderofBirds Gotta say, it kicks ass that we are finally getting some light-heartedness :D
Sam Marlieas indeed
+MurderofBirds No problem!
+MurderofBirds ahaha you called every line before Ozpin! Genius man!
Ozpin could be a descendant of the wizard.
+Logan Meggeson Or the powers and longevity of the Wizard could pass from person to person just like the maidens.
Both posable possibilities. Remnant is indeed a place of mystery and wonder but so are the people who inhabitant Remnant.
+Logan Meggeson Although I would like to believe he's a descendant of the wizard, how do you think the original wizard died?
Diamond Dog lmao tru
+Diamond Dog Wizard of Ozpin
Your reactions makes my day brighter! Keep with them! ^^
And im totally agree with Ozpin being the wizard theory!
Well we know Ozpin was born before the Great War ended since he does not have a color name
That wizard isn't going to be happy when he finds out one of them won't be visiting.
Or will she
+Hawkeye0725 Maybe he already knows...?
wink wink
8:05 When the Fall Maiden just turns and looks at you through the screen.
I'm so glad your channel is growing because your reactions are the best and super genuine.
+Hylia's Hero I actually really like that idea!
He is and the maidens are his children
Good to see you around. I found your channel very recently but I've come to see you're a pretty good reactor who loves RWBY. I look forward to more videos! Keep up the good work!
The promise to return is symbolic of how the seasons always return every year. Its a bittersweet sort of thing too since it also acknowledges the mortality of the maidens but the eternal life of the wizard who now (if Ozpin) works to protect his beloved maidens throughout the centuries
This theory is from MasochisticHero, he posted in roster theet site:
"But by default, i think team rwby will inherit all the maiden's powers. Their parallelism to the seasons are too recurring.
Well, on themes: team rwby
Ruby-spring
Yang-summer
Blake-fall
Weiss-winter
But...
Jaune's no comic relief."
I found it interesting, what do you think about it?
+Julio Ramirez The way I kinda view the powers of the maidens is that they have control elements of the season itself but can pull a bit from the previous and next season like the transitional months for ex fall can have bad storms and also has a history of getting freezing cold near the end of the month which are usually seen as traits from summer and winter respectively so as such the fall maiden can use lightning and freeze things. but thats just my thoughts on it
Spring is so cute😝😁😋
+Diamond Dog lmao... good luck getting that internet pusi b0ss.
+ivana harris She looks like joy from Inside Out tho.
Diamond Dog bullshit i'm ugly irl bruh
+ivana harris They all are. My favorite model is Summer.
+ivana harris sort of like a green ruby... yeah.... calling it now.
Winter-Atlas
Fall-Vale
Summer- Vacuo (Seems to be a hot place, where shirt and ties aren't common)
Spring- Mistral
If Cinder hails from Mistral, that seems to me that that's where her 'boss' is too.
+Nike Wall So I was thinking Cinder's "Boss" is actually like her older sister/mother or something.
Rever Zenith Huh, it could be. Clearly it's someone Cinder respects and they could still be a teacher at Haven.
Also Yay! Story time, with Ozpin
+Tonya Greenbane Powers Story time is the best time!!! :D
+MurderofBirds Ozpin story time is best Story time. Ozpin girl voice is worst girl voice.
+Sneaky Dexter The summer maiden looked almost *exactly* like Ruby. The same look, but with a color swap.
+Sneaky Dexter What if the Old dust noodle shop Man IS the old man, and what if he's... Ozpin's dad?
I know it's a crazy theory I thought I'd just throw in there.
+TheInspectorwho If random shop man was the wizard all along I'd lose my shit.
+Sneaky Dexter Spring seemed more like Ruby then Summer did.
Handtomouth 8991
Idk. Spring is a little bit too all friendly around. Plus the color scheme and the clothes don't fit. Neither do the flowers (symbolism-wise).
Of course we have to keep in mind this is all probably just very subtle hints if there even is something to take from that
Theory time for the end of the season:
I feel like the cliffhanger for this season is going to be something along the lines of Ozpin having to resign as headmaster due to whatever mayhem happens in the next three episodes and we will see him go home and it will be the same house in this WOR and the current maidens will be there
also paralleling the dumbledore-esque theme where he was forced to resign
probably not gonna happen but wow would that be a painful year long cliffhanger
I agree, with how it's kind of like in Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the episode The Storm, we learn that they determine who the new avatar is by placing the child in front of a thousand toys and having them choose 4. With the past lives influencing their subconscious thought, the child picks out the same for toys as the previous avatars did. I think it's like that, where the original maiden consciousness subtly tells the maiden to go visit the wizard. However after the first time, I think he would explain it, and she would just go their by herself without having to be told by her powers.
spring is Moe as fuck xD
Lol
Neo has three letters... HALF-LIFE 3 CONFORM
Also, did anyone else get a *_Harvest Moon_* vibe here ( _especially in regards to the music_ ) or was that just me? ...Either way it totally made me smile and it left me with a strong urge to play some *_Harvest Moon: Magical Melody_* lol :3
I also agree, and definitely think that Ozpin is the lone Wizard here, either that, or that he is a direct descendant of his.
But Anyways - Great Reaction as always, Arnold! :)
I would really love this story to be turned some kind of children’s book to read to kids ❤️ This makes such an amazing fairytale
They have Fairy Tales of Remnant now! Prayers answered!
It might be pure theory for the Oz being wizard.
...but I can't help but notice the cane he's holding in the last shot of him.
However that has some implications:
1 - Cinder knows about the Maiden's general locations and habits (so she knew when and where to ambush Amber)
2 - Cinder knows that the old man is alive and kicking and either knows Ozpin's true identity OR at the very least knows that the old man is in Vale. I mean, she had to know where Amber was headed to to cut off her path, right? (Although, we don't know for sure she was headed to Vale, once again I'm assuming it's Ozpin she was going to visit)
Now, about the promise the Maidens did. I think that it may be kind of an unconscious pull. Something like a feeling of "I should be here." that prods and beckons the Maidens towards Ozpin. I mean, it's kind of ludicrous to think that the new Maidens would know instinctively like "Oh I got powers now. Oh I should go visit this guy I never heard about before."
Anyways, back to the promise.
(Unless you count Ren's symbol but, ya know, dudes can't be Maidens)
However, I remembered a saying. The saying goes "hope springs eternal".
And that made me think "Well, maybe there's hope for Penny."
And suddenly "Wait a second! Spring is the season where all that was dead comes back to life and blooms once more!"
What if Penny is a dormant Spring Maiden in training?!
(Maidens SHOULD be hidden away from the world after all)
If not... well, we know of another young woman who has been in hiding for a long time.
Raven Branwen
Why Raven? Well... her portal back in Volume 2, episode 11. After she saved Yang. It kinda has the same visual effects as Cinder's flaming pillars when she fights Glynda aaaaaaaall that time ago in Volume 1, episode 1.
That and all the hush hush, secret secret kinda deal with her, I mean, why did she disappear?
(hint: if she's a Maiden, she had to go into hiding, just like I said Summer would do if she was alive)
Which means we might see one of them in Beacon pretty soon.
I hope this has given you some food for thought. XD
Can't wait for Episode 10!
+Megan Pinkerton Well, she'd have to be in the current Winter Maiden's last thoughts, and I don't think these things are pre-determined.
+CABRALFAN27 yea, good point. but she would be a perfect candidate.
+CABRALFAN27 definitely, I agree. and weiss seems a bit kinder than winter, which would be better for being a maiden.
Damn that was a good episode, I liking this theory you talk about, the more I think about it the more it make sense to be him.
Thank you.
Winter: Emo white chick
Fall: The stoner
Summer: The hippie
Spring: The Mexican
This is the tale of the four sl00ts.
But this is RWBY, where everyone is based off a character. Maybe they're more literal here.
Your right about fall... she was even moving leaves like Amber.
But for however long the Old man lived (im not convinced it's Ozpin)
*he was* visited every year by Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring (the seasons not the Maidens)
it is a story on the Origin of the seasons is it not?
When he was outside the wizards eyes kinda looked Silver to me
although I should point out that "the dress" was white and gold to me so I probably got bad eyesight
+SleepingGiant Perhaps the color of his eyes changed slightly after giving up his magic? Idk, could just be a crapshot.
+IM ON A HORSE i see where you were going with that lol
+IM ON A HORSE Cool theories and all, but only thing I have to say is that maidens don't have silver eyes (unless they are just born with silver eyes and happen to become maidens).
Silver eyes clearly mean something
They cannot be common or Ozpins first line means nothing, it's either Supernatural in Origin or it alludes to heritage (genetics) and yes none of the *Maidens* had silver eyes, but maybe just maybe someone descended from the Wizard would..
one more thing dose anyone else feel like Raven is going to show up again
saying this as I'm watching the video but I'm calling it at the old man is the shopkeeper its funny thinking oz is doing the voices for the females when he's telling the story to people
I ended up watching this after the series proper and as soon as the Winter Maiden showed up I was immediate struck by how similar she looked to Salem.
It actually had never occured to me that ozpin could be the old wizard. You got me thinking
The only issue I really have with the "Ozpin is the wizard" theory is the eye color. The wizard's eyes seem more of a grey or silver color.
ozpin has the best story time voice
One crack/joke theory I created ever since the Maidens were mentioned in Episode 6 was the Shopkeeper being the Old Wizard. I'll just drop it off for you to enjoy.
By the way, your videos are awesome and are a pleasure to watch. Keep it up. :)

"Recall the story Ozpin told Pyrrha with the old man and the four women.
Discuss."
My favorite tale is Gift Of The Magi by O'Henry. Are you familiar with it?
Winter Schnee is the Winter Maiden, and Cinder is the Summer Maiden, who wants to consolidate the
powers of all the other maidens.
Perhaps Qrow was protecting him, and she was near, but he managed to see the action from over the trees and bolted over
+Tonya Greenbane Powers I actually mentioned that in my post reaction thoughts!
Spring looks like joy from inside out
Good review video Murder, but I got a few thoughts of my own.
Another thought just occurred, hence the reason for this EDIT:
So, you're all saying (well at least some of you are saying) that Ozpin is the wizard or connected to him in some way.
I feel you man.. Episode 9 was insane
+Josiah Myers My feels still hurt :/
+MurderofBirds same :/ and im pretty sad that rwbys ending soon its a hate love kinda thing going on haha
+Josiah Myers mabey the season, but not the show (hopefully)
+ivana harris Nah they are planning to have around 9 volumes min.
Does anybody know when the next season will start? I presume around late Summer, early Fall right?
2:24 yeah i think he is the old man as well
Amber had all the power of all 4 maidens.
Ozpin didn't change his voice when he voiced the Wizard like how he did with the Maidens. Suspicious...
+Ken Reyes Probably because the Wizard is male, but whatever.
trust me dude it only gets crazier from here on end
And we can cross the reincarnation theory since the old wizard is supposed to still be around even "now"
Ozpin "....story has been around since I was a boy." That story is centuries old..............golden point +MurderofBirds
Nice one
0:24 I couldn't do it either . . . just a bit to scared because I might cry again, and my family will judge me again :~:
4:10 better question winter sat there through the whole winter????????
9:36 maybe amber was trying 2 get 2 beacon when she got atked
I feel as if oz would be the wizard. I think with the maidens they will appear in the 11th or 12th episode because you have fall, but she came too early by this time it be spring and if I'm implying this right Winter just left lol
Hey +murderofbirds do you think Adam and Raven are connected somehow? Like I meen there mask are very similar and the marking to.
In regards to Ozpin, one of the other World of Remnant (perhaps Aura), says that expertise controlling aura and semblance can make you more than a man; with the camera looking at Ozpin.
Could mean something, could be nothing.
7:59 y were u not moving when u said that
I think Ozpin is the Wizzard and i also this if he his and grant the maidens this much power.
This was one of the mistakes he was talking to Ruby?
I dont think that he knews they get haunted and killed by people who wants the power of the Maides so he make a secrelty brotherhood to make sure he can protect the Maidens.
0:28 yeah it was rough on me 2 since ruby and penny were my first ever otp also i like the new profile pic
Amber was going somewhere... Was it to visit the wizard?
I would tell this story to my children, who else would?
