Converting Firewood Shelter into Tiny Cabin to Survive Winter - Walls 2.0┃EP11┃Alone Off Grid Alaska

  • In this episode I take on the challenge of converting my short lived firewood shelter into a tiny cabin so I can survive the Alaskan winter! I run into major setbacks and have to tear down my walls because I installed them incorrectly. What could go wrong?
    Logo designed by: www.joepanella...
    If you're new here, my name is Sean Paul!
    I sold everything I owned and drove to Alaska. I came with my dog, my cat, and a dream to create an off grid sanctuary on 5 acres of Alaskan wilderness! The challenge is, I have zero experience and I’m just a dreamer with a TH-cam subscription! I can only imagine the journey ahead...I hope you stick around, and welcome, to Gettin' Off Grid!

      Yes I agree we want to see you succeed. I think we were coming from the angle that eventually this is going to be your woodshed it's gonna be partially open to the elements anyway we just wanted you to get in before winter, into something that's gonna keep you dry and warm and safe. This is not going to be your permanent home. You'll build that later once you have all this experience under your belt and we'll be right there with you.

      Here’s a question to interact with: how do you decide when do you decide to use nails or screws?

    • @Pukie916
      @Pukie916 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@CitizenspressIf you are building a large project, nails are usually the way to go as it can be done cheaply and quickly using a nail gun. Nails are cheaper than screws.
      Screws offer the ability to take things apart more easily and have superior tensile strength however screws offer no shear strength (two pieces sliding against each other) In this case, nails always need to be used.

    Massive TWY fan too. Just makes me love the channel even more. On Wednesday it was a year since my daughter passed away. The channel has been helping me through what's been a big greif-y pit of depression. In April I got a memorial tattoo for her. We took prints of her hands and feet as she was passing, which I got tattooed on my left forearm. Surrounding her hands and feet are the lyrics from Cigarettes and Saints. "I'll bury your memories in the garden. I'll watch them grow with the flowers in spring. I'll keep you with me". Some of her ashes were worked into the ink, so I'll keep her with me always. Thanks for being a shining light during the dark days for me man. Keep doing what you're doing.

    You're learning, honey. I'm an old lady of 72 and 25 years ago, my nine family friends and I built10 houses. It took 22 months to complete all of them. We were all rookies, too. You'll be ok.

    I'm sure it was frustrating to have to redo the walls, but you'll be happy you did! Just a bit more and you'll be 'dried in' and can start the interior and be ready for winter!

    Wow!!! That was freaking awesome. What a joy to see how happy that made you, and I think all of us. The one thing I noticed, was you might want to see if you can put your solar panels where you get more sun. I seen that they were in the shade, and there was sunlight still coming down. Thank you again. That was just amazing to see you accomplish that.

    That was pure genius Sean Paul, you listened to the advice and found your own solution. Loved seeing you and Gracie having a bit of an adventure (beautiful scenery). Hope that's given you the motivation to crack on and get your cabin finished. Looking forward to seeing how far you've got this next week.

    I am one of those people who talked about your walls. It wasn't meant to be critical. It was just an FYI. You had made it very clear that you didn't know what you were doing, and I think people really just want to help when we can.
    Lol, I saw how many nails you put in that floorboard. I'm amazed that you got it up so easily. Hahaha. But I'm glad you did it. You'll be much happier.
