I recently visited Auschwitz and Birkenau camps. It is hard to take in what was done there when you see the shoes, suitcases, children's clothes and a pile of human hair that fills half a room...when you walk past the common gallows and the death wall and then into a gas chamber and the adjoining crematorium there is an echo of the horrors. To this day i cannot fathom how any man or woman could do these despicable, inhuman acts and after the war go back to being an ordinary person living an ordinary life seemingly without a care. I looked at Hoss's gallows and wondered if the ghosts of all the souls he killed watched him perish
I was watching the Nuremberg trial today for the first time, and he struck me as particularly evil, there's a dark poetry in his life ending in the same camp he haunted as it's commandant.
Typical of monsters like this . He is not sorry for anything he did . He relished it . He is only sorry he was caught and has to pay the consequences. Horrible evil man he was .
Hi, this is debatable. There are photographs taken at the time (not in this video) showing Höss having gone through some sort of trapdoor, and fallen through the structure. The method you're referring to was used a lot inside of Polish Prisons for other war criminals, such as Maria Mandl. Thanks for your comment!
Based on the photos here it does appear that some sort of stage was constructed but it doesn't seem that high and so maybe unlikely to have broken his neck even if a trapdoor was installed.
There was a trapdoor, this is viewable from google maps and the stool was placed on it. The subsequent pictures taken after the execution, also show this. Also it is possible that there was a pit dug under the trapdoor to give extra depth.
They are fanatics. They never thought for a second they would lose. Same with the Japanese. There was a Japanese soldier who was still fighting until the 70s.
His daughter Brigitte Hoess was drop dead gorgeous and modeled for Balenciaga having to hide who her father was. She had to hide who she was since her boss was Jewish. She died in the US in 2023. Is this same person referenced in the movie about Nuremburg. Where they get him in to testify about the camp and he says how he was displeased by the process and how he increased "output" and made it more efficient. As an add on he wished to make it clear that his guards did not torture, they were there for a job and if they stepped out of line they would be punished? I think it was the fella who said in the movie, is it wrong for a rat catcher to catch rats. If this is the same guy, awful human, cold in anyway, it's clear from this video that from even secondary school aye he was not phased, orders are orders, a job to be done.
Videos like this infuriate me yet makes me glad that I was not one of the liberators of the camps, I don't think I could control myself and would have committed war crimes against anyone wearing a nazi uniform. Never forget!
Was hoping someone would mention that. Far too many of these less than scholarly "historical videos" are on TH-cam with their very questionable subjective assertions going unchallenged.
The bad part about it all so many escaped justice after committing some of the most horrific crimes. Many concentration camps guards were not held accountable, especially those from other nations like Ukraine. Some of the worst guards with a lot of blood on their hands got away at the end of the second world war, and many lived long lives.
His words of sorrow and shame said he became repentant person, he also added that he expects the death penalty and these crime's not be repeated by others, more than what Field Marshall Luftwaffe Erhardt Milch said and he was non-rependant

The last name is properly pronounced "Hoyss". It is spelled Hoss, with an umlaut accent over the O. In german, that makes the "o" properly pronounced as "eu". Just a small point of clarification.
Utterly reprehensible how this beast disconnected himself from the horrors he perpetrated on others. Then when caught, reels out a litany of predictable excuses in an attempt to absolve himself. Being sent to the gallows was a "punishment" too kind.
They all survived. His wife died in 1989 in the US. She was tried for war crimes but I doubt if she did much time in prison. Most of the families of the leading Nazis who weren’t actually killed in the war survived.
I disliked the movie Zone of Interest. I found it irrelevant and disrespectful. Who cares about his domestic life with his family outside the camp, while barely alluding the heinous crimes he was committing on a daily basis.
Simple-minded fool. The fact that incredibly evil men like Hoss had relatively ordinary family lives aside from being mass murderers is what makes this all the more disturbing. I bet you also disliked Downfall (der Untergang) because it shows Hitler as a human being as well as a deranged dictator. It is the double lives that the Nazi leaders and executioners lived that makes movies like these so important. These were human beings who did unspeakable things to other human beings.
I'm a 55-year-old American white guy. Growing up in the 1970s, I remember my dad making me watch WW2 Nazi documentaries on TV. And back then, they showed everything on TV. Unfortunatly God didnt touch his soul while he killed all those innocent children and parents of children and other human beings. God did absolutely nothing to avoid this or to change his mind..
