  • Some clips of Ecopista do Dão. Just 50km between Santa Comba Dão and Viseu. Very easy to ride, I highly highly recommend.
    We ended up riding back on the same day but spending a weekend would be better.
    Thank you André for the awesome day!

    the best biking routes are (where) train routes
    ( in comfort i mean, they don't go up very steep or down. just flat)

      That's true, is a railway guy I can tell you that most standard gauge rails, in Europe at least, do not exceed elevation greater than 30‰ which is 100 times less than a 3% grade, so it is quite flat.

    Wow! such a beautiful ride through the countryside, without cars! Thank you for taking us along. Kudos to those who decided to convert this abandoned rail line to a trail for bikes and pedestrians. Wonderful!

    another great video. I am convinced now that I should not have moved to Lisbon where the traffic is a constant. These smaller rural towns are where I need to be...when my Portuguese progresses infant level and I can string some sentences together you will see me riding a bike on these tracks. Thanks for another great video

    Bin there 2 years ago, 3 days / 2 nights exploring also the surroundings. A) we had to reserve the 2 bike places in the train, no extra cost though B) there's a nice restaurant in Tonda (not Tondela) called 3 pipos which we used for lunches C) There was an unattended beautiful river campsite with shower and grilling place next to a river in Ferreirós do Dão. For B and C you need leave the trail and thus need to climb up a steep hillside but I can recommend!
    Really nice video, Miguel !

    In Croatia there are many dismantled railway tracks and some abandoned tracks. From city Bjelovar to city Garešnica there were tracks (about 50km long) that were taken out in 1968 and few years ago some volonteur cyclist wanted to create a bike path and brought the idea to the city of Bjelovar. But unfortunately the city hasn't still approved the project as of 2021. The city doesn't have interest in something that will not bring money straight into their pocket. I'm so dissapointed as a cyclist.

      Cycling tourists don't have money, they don't rent hotel rooms, and don't buy anything (they all carry 100kg backpacks), so it's logical.
      Sarcasm...because it's illegal to kill stupid politicians.

    In the US, these are called Rail to Trail. There are many miles of them in nearly every state. I ride one, in my city, that extends for over 100 miles connecting different cities.

    • @truedarklander
      @truedarklander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is pretty unique is Portugal considering this rail got taken out because it was a very slow narrow gauge railway that didn't serve a major way (Viseu is a relatively big city but the railway connected Viseu with very small villages)

    A beautiful area of Portugal. I like the idea of re-inventing disused train tracks as cycle paths, there may be many more through the Alentejo and elsewhere. There is also the Linha do Douro from Pocinho to Barca d'Alva that could become an awesome cycle route, but "The Brave Ones" (see their channel for details) might have something to say about that! Good to revisit Viseu though, thanks Miguel.
