Hamburg Backpackers, Eastern Cape

"There is no burg like Hamburg" is what you read on most of the locals T-shirts in this serene part of the world. Hamburg is a very small town / village 90km south of East London.
You would never know what was there unless someone told you or you happened to turn left on the R72 where a small sign points you in the direction of Hamburg.
Having been there years back, I wanted to show someone a little bit of the coast line and we headed out to Doregos, the local restaurant where everybody knows your name. We met the most open, genuine people at Doregos, that we were without a doubt heading back the following weekend for some new founded activities that we did not know one could do in Hamburg.

Allan offers canoeing adventures on the Hamburg River, where one will find a great variety of bird species. If you have a motorbike and feel like taking an adventurous ride over the mountain, you will be sure to stumble upon a valley that is so peaceful and so calm, you will wonder what worries anyone could have in life.
We thoroughly enjoyed the canoeing and biking, we just never took the go pro when we ventured on the bikes to the valley. What a pity....
If you feel like some fun in the Wild Eastern Cape, I highly recommend adding Hamburg to your travel plans. The relaxation of this place makes you staylonger, the roaming cows make you crave the same freedom for your own life, and hosts like Allan and Mandy... well..... I was blessed to meet such good people. Hamburg Backpackers is a place where you will have friends for life.
