I’ve watched this video an unhealthy amount of time. Studied in UP my entire life. My dad and I supported Shell in the PBA back then because of Paras, Magsanoc, Altamirano, and Guanio. I started watching the UAAP back in 1995 when I was studying in UPIS and Paolo Mendoza was my boyhood UP basketball idol. I felt bad when Ateneo took Joe Lipa as their coach as I felt like he should just be associated with UP forever. When the commentators mentioned their names, all the memories came flooding back lol. Thank you, UP MBT! Our hearts are full. Atin na!
Also went to UP and supported Shell in the PBA! All the feels! I wish they mentioned our last Final Four team members as well prior to this new wave of talent - the late Brian Gahol, Ogie Gumatay et. al.
@@benjespina The 1997 team was stacked! Mendoza, Gahol (rip), Gumatay, Jenkins Mesina, Jomalesa, Serrano, Rocha, Madarang, Victoria. Too bad Gahol got injured and they weren’t the same team against FEU in the Final Four. Well if they won it all, they won’t be able to lift coach Nic Jorge anyway lol.
I'm a solid fan also for Shell because of Benjie and Ronnie, I always watched their games even in provincial in Pampanga face to face with Benjie and Ronnie, fast forward Kobe Paras hoping nuon sya maka duplicate sa history ng Dabby nya.

5:48 - 6:25 When the announcer started talking about the "dark ages" and started naming the "fallen soldiers", that made me emotional. We got so used to seeing the Maroons losing season after season, now I can say there is indeed light in the end of it all.
Made me remember Brian Gahol as well. The last leader we had to lead us to the Final Four before this era of new talents.

Poetic justice. Its like watching Shohoku beat Kainan at last. Got this sense of satisfaction to see how the perrenial pushovers topple the perrenial favorites, the mighty Ateneo Blue Eagles. For years, we have been the talk of ridicule and much criticism, now we stand as Champions.

Huling beses na naging fan ako ng UAAP palaging di kasali UP sa usapang playoffs. Naglalaban pa nun UP at Adamson kung sino magkakaroon ng 1 win sa record nila. Hanggang sa paunti unting gumaganda sistema ng laro nila , naging contender, nag playoffs, nag finals, at ngayon champion. Mahabang biyahe pero worth it. Congrats UP !

Maganda rin yung last attempt ni Dave I para sa Ateneo kaso di pumasok. Tira niya talaga yun. One of the best finals series ever. Matindi yung game 3. Di mo talaga alam mananalo hanggang dulo.

Wow I'm a Spurs fan and that was a great series and great comparison! Powerhouse nga #1 and #2 defensive teams as well as last 2 nba champions. Medyo lopsided for both teams yung game 1-4 pero yung game 5-7 parang ganito nga! Yung overtime game 5 heroics ni Robert Horry parang ginawa ni JD nitong OT game 3!
That step back shot from Cagulangan will always be remembered by the UP community or even the whole UAAP community. Cagulangan just made history. It was a team effort nevertheless Cagulangan was the man for UP. Congratulations, UP. Historic indeed.

Cansino's game tying shot at the 4Q is the destiny of UP 🥲 pinasok sya ni coach and he delivered. Taas ng pressure kasi lamang Ateneo and nasa kanila talaga momentum nun if not for the team's stellar defense going into overtime. And that OT will go down in history as Cagulangan's high IQ moments 😍 I'll probably watch PBA to see these kids again. Congrats UP Champs!!!

Yung nakikipag-away pa ako dati para lang hindi ilipat sa ibang channel habang binubuyo ako na matatalo lang din naman UP. Tapos nag-enroll ako sa Cheerleading PE Class para makapanuod ng live games and also forgetting to get the tickets signed kaya na-5 ako. Hahahaha. Tapos nanunuod ng games noong professional na para marelieve ang stress from work. To frequently meeting with college friends to watch as many games as possible, in anticipation of a good season, and losing the games but never losing the belief that one day UP will win the championship. How could we not cry over this game?

The same pick and roll play by cagulangan and diouf in the last 2 possessions was brilliant! First Diouf rolled and left Kouame for the open slam dunk. With this on his mind, he chooses to keep Diouf again in check leaving a wide open 3 for cagulangan for the Championship!

I am a UP graduate who was a transferee from UE Manila. Back when I was in UE, they always take pride in always entering final four of UAAP. This was in 2009. UP, on the other hand, took pride in academics. Even making a joke out of being always in last place at UAAP Men's basketball.
Now, UP was a crowd favorite entering UAAP season 84 in Men's basketball. They had a twice-to-beat advantage at one point. UE on the other hand occupied the space UP left. 14 losses and no wins. UE lost everything.
I have mixed emotions on this game.
