Great to see some love for the Tony Martin era from you, Pat. Tony is an incredibly underrated musician. I hadn’t listened to many Black Sabbath songs outside of the hits before I watched this video, and I did what you said to try for the title track Black Sabbath and it legit gave me chills. Now I’m listening to a lot more of their music 😭 great video!
Great video and great ranking Pat. I respect those choices-need to check out Headless Cross a bit more. I have a soft spot for NSD but I get why people didn't dig it at the time
Thanks my bro! Headless Cross is awesome! Tony Martin is SUPER underrated as a vocalist and he KILLS on that record! I get it might not be as SABBATH as a lot of their other stuff but I try to look at it as if it were a completely different band (which it pretty much was, considering Iommi was the only founding member standing). Something's just off with NSD for me for some reason...
Great to see Tony Martin getting more recognition these days. The Shining is a dead set classic. Devil and Daughter, Anno Mundi, it’s all great stuff 🤘🏽
Thank you so much for this video Pat, I am so glad you finally got to do this! It was a long wait but it was worth it. If there is one band I can never get tired of, a band that is the beginning and the end for me, a band that has always remained great and interesting throughout every era, it’s definitely Black Sabbath. I highly agree that the bottom 4 albums are really forgettable and aren’t as great as they should be, but they are definitely not bad albums by any means. As for my number one choice, I would still have to go with Heaven and Hell because it’s still one of my personal 10/10 albums. I think we can all agree that despite the numerous lineup changes, Black Sabbath has remained one of the greatest bands of all time, probably the only band that rocks with so many different vocalists. Cheers bro 🔥
Thank you my dude! I know you were waiting for this video for a long time.... Honestly, it was just too hard to record lol. I'm still not 100% sure on this ranking haha! But that's the beauty of Black Sabbath, every album as different as they are, is awesome on it's own way! I don't think there's a more consistent band out there that has changed members as much and lasted as long as Black Sabbath... Thanks for watching and commenting brother!
Although I'd have to disagree that the debut is more influential to metal than Paranoid, this is a pretty goddamned good ranking you've got here. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks boss!! I can’t discredit Paranoid’s contribution! It was the album that changed it all! I just think the impact that diminished fifth had on metal is also undeniable and single-handedly spawned metal as we know it! Glad you enjoyed the list and disagreeing and debating is what this is all about! As long as we keep it civil I will always appreciate opposing views and opinions! Thanks for watching and commenting 😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
My most recent ranking: This fluctuates a bit from time to time. But my 1 has been there for a while now. 20. Headless Cross(those awful 80's synths kill it for me. Also, for a supposedly'dark' record, I feel a happy vibe from a couple of the tunes. Subtract those two tracks and dim those synths....I'd feel totally different). 19. Seventh Star(it's not bad, it just feels the least like sabbath). 18. Forbidden(not their best, but not nearly as bad as its reputation) 17. Cross Purposes(having Geezer present makes a difference) 16. The Devil You Know(didn't grab me immediately, it's a grower that kept getting better with each listen) 15. Never Say Die(NOT heavy, nor metal, but it's adventurous, 'outta the box' Sab.) 14. TYR(Annu Mundi 🔥; releasing Feels Good to Me as a single felt like a huge mistake to me. It's not representative of the vibe or quality of this album at all. I give this album a solid B, but do not care for that lead single whatsoever) 13. 13(h I view this as a 16 song project, rather than just the 8-10). 12. The Eternal Idol(very good album, overlooked) 11. Heaven & Hell(The title track is my favorite DioSab tune). 10. Born Again(Ian and Tony sound phenomenal together) 9. Mob Rules 8. TekEx (being lesser than 1-6 doesn't mean it sucks) 7. Dehumanizer(my fav DioSab) 6. Sabotage 5. SBS -5&6 neck and neck, a hair less than 1-4 4. Black Sabbath 3. MoR 2. Paranoid 1. Vol4
Another great video. I am not well versed in Black Sabbath. I am more familiar with their older stuff. However, I will be making it a point to check out some of the other albums.
Forbidden I would put at the absolute bottom. Gypsy is like the only song I like from Technical Ecstacy lol! I would have put The Eternal Idol on top of all the Tony Martin albums, because it is the only one of them that I feel has that Sabbath creepy doomy feeling to it. I would have traded places between Mob Rules and Headless Cross.
Haha yeah Forbidden is pretty meh… and Gypsy… well, it’s just not my cup of tea! Hahaha. I do agree with Eternal Idol having that heavy doomy vibe we all know and love!! It is definitely a killer album 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Mystifying to me that the debut gets the top spot while MoR is much lower. It does have N.I.B which is a great track. The title track is legendary and the story behind it is cool but it's not a song I would go out of my way to actually listen to... Heaven And Hell has my all-time fav BS song, Die Young, but only four tracks on that album stand out, the other half is pretty forgettable. Mob Rules is much much better as an entire album! Also, just drop Paranoid towards the very bottom and I wouldn't complain one bit, never liked it apart from the title track and THAT is a hot take, my friend! 🙃 I do love Headless Cross, very nice to see it so high up! For a Gen Xer like me it evokes those awesome years of the late 80s to a tee.
