The green hair in the Justin Bailey code is the result of Samus starting with the Varia suit. With the basic Power suit, her hair is brown like in the ending. (Also, the Justin Bailey code wasn't deliberately coded into the game. It's just a coincidence. The way you're normally supposed to unlock suitless Samus is by beating the game fast enough to get the ending where she appears in a leotard, then starting a new game.)
I love this series, but not this game. It’s the same issues you mentioned: no map and all the areas looking the same. I felt so lost, like I was going around in circles If you want to play this game, play Zero Mission on the Gameboy Advance. It fixes these issues completely, and gives the game a makeover in the graphics department. Definitely my favorite Metroid game Great review! Looking forward to the rest of the month!
Hey man, I really enjoyed your recent Metroid “did you know gaming” episode. Wayne is boss huh? Glad your so humble. ;) Anyhow , I came over and subscribed to your channel. I look forward to checking out some of your other episodes. Great job on the DYKG!
the fact that the story in the manual still broadly holds up with the rest of the franchise is incredible for an nes game, it definitely puts it above mega man 1 in that category. also, your videos are so good and it is a travesty that you only get views in the triple digits
Yeah I grew up with this game even though I like the Super Nintendo version I would still play the first Metroid you shouldn't tell people not to play specially the people who never played Metroid cuz it's still a good game
I've never seen the art from that booklet before, I think it's funny that the Power Suit has visible gear(s) in it. I'm no engineer but like what would that even do?
Fake Kraid freaked me out as a little kid, because there was no logical explanation for him. Maybe it’s like how there’s fake Bowsers in Mario 2? I had this game growing up and my “job” was grinding for energy refills when restarting the game, and writing down passwords for my older brothers, as well as keeping track where they were on the map. QOL improvements which were programmed into future installments. I was 5.
Imagine people in the 80s taking a gasp at the ending? Lol Great video , I really dig the style of the first game but I actually beat the remake before the original lol
I love to think of how crazy that was to people back in the day lol And yeah while I do like this game, I'd reccomend Zero Mission over the NES original any day
Wayneisboss and if you still want to play the original after zero mission, you can unlock it in zero mission after beating the game once so that’s cool.
My brothers and their friends would grind and grind playing the game over and over to try to get the good ending they heard rumored about. I remember making up an efficient route to get the quickest ending. It was a playground rumor type thing, except the rumor was true.
I was a kid but you know what's crazy my brother beat it this game all on his own I used to watch him I don't know if he want to the library and print out papers but I never saw him with any papers he could have just looked at it because back then in the 90s internet was not affordable like it is now
The code is “Just In Bailey” not “Justin Bailey,” regarding her bailey suit that she is wearing. It just looks like that because the way the code is separated.
I did some research into the topic back when I was writing the script for this review and based on my findings there's really not much to support that claim. It makes some logical sense, of course but regardless it's not how the code is most easily recognized or remembered, "Justin Bailey" is. Based on further research it seems the code was not even created with a specific purpose, it simply manifested as a cosmic coincidence of letters and numbers coming together to result in playing as Samus in a swimsuit. It's worth mentioning that this is not the only code in the game that results in this outcome. So while it makes sense and may even be true, the distinction that it's actually "Just in Bailey" is simply irrelevant.
@@Wayneisboss I doubt that, I’m sure if you pick up some upgrades with the code and die you’ll get a new code and she’ll still be in her bailey suit. So that’s the reason for other codes that result in her still in a swimsuit. I think you’re just overthinking it haha
I had heard that before myself about "just in bailey," but it turns out there is no real meaning behind Justin Bailey, it wasn't programmed into the game as mentioned by @Wayneisboss. It's just a coincidence, likely discovered originally by someone with the name "Justin Bailey", and made famous by Nintendo Power. It just happens to fit the algorithm and pass the checks. There is in fact one and only one code that IS hardcoded into the game though: NARPAS SWORD, likely meant to be NAR Password, that was probably used for debugging and makes samus invincible.

Good review. I do disagree about one thing though, because I think that the original Metroid game is still VERY MUCH worth trying for any new Metroid fan. Especially because you can look at maps on the internet now. It's still a lot of fun. And it's not without it's sense of nostalgia due to the era this game belongs to. I'd say, at least give it a try. Matter of fact. I'd recommend this one long before recommending the original version of Metroid 2. Better to just play AM2R, or, the 3ds remake if you have a 3ds.
‘nobody knows why the justin bailey code is called this’ yes we do. somebody made a indepth analysis of the password system in this game. long story short it’s a coincidence and there’s wayy more suitless samus passwords aswell that’s just 1 that caught on cause it’s easy to remember. and you can get it by beating the game fast and starting a new game aswell
I've tried to get into this game several times, I just can't. Exploration with no map would be fine if everything wasn't the same copy pasted section...
Spoiler alert! That thing on the internet you've see a thousand times? It came from here. Plot twists stop being spoilers when your main character becomes a key figure for gender roles in video games.
He hadn't have some kind of help because he beat it this all on his own I'm not saying that he didn't do it without any help but I know I didn't see no papers in his hand he could have just went into the library read something online and just remembered everything
At some point you're probably gonna have to look at other M and I don't wanna scare you, but I don't think I've ever heard someone say something good about it
Yeah I truly honestly think that this game it ushered in women in lead roles in video games I could be wrong with that's what I think if I'm wrong anybody please enlighten me but I think I'm right
THAT FADE IN EFFECT IS SO COOL
Haha thank you! It was actually a really simple effect to pull off but I thought it would be fun to throw in there
"My Parents are also watching this!"
*Samus in bikini*
...Well this is awkward. XD
No joke, I really want a game like a 'God of War' to have a 'Kratos in a thong' secret ending for 100%ing it.
It's only fair
Dante from DMC would be my preference.
Thanks for the spoiler alert, some people really don’t know yet that Samus is a...
Half-bird person
I'm still trying to figure out when to bring that up lol
I’m so thankful that metroid month and dread release are in the same month of my birthday!
the SNATCHER music is a jam, love hearing that in the back
I can definitely thank Steak Bently for introducing me to that soundtrack. His video on MGS 4 is beefy, but it's one of my favorites on the platform
Nice review! Looking forward for the rest of metroid month!
Thank you! I'm really excited to keep this going!
The quality of your videos never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks so much, I do my best! T-T
Loved the bit about your parents being the only ones watching who don’t know the reveal at the end.
This is my first time watching your channel. I am looking forward to the rest of Metroid Month.
Thank Suris for a new subscriber!

Hello “Laid Back Scott the Woz”, this is an AMAZING REVIEW! Looking forward to more!
As per usual, your editing is on point and the video was entertaining =)
I also passed the link to a friend who is into retro games and such so thank you :)
6:10 I want that replica so much right now.

where did you get your metroid video/gif/moving wallpapers?
Imagine if they just put little room numbers or alien writing around places, or next to doors.
The baby...
I though bailey was a term for the bathing suit like Just In a bailey.
Justin Bailey means "just in bailey" as Bailey is Australian slang for bikini 👙
What’s the song at 7:45
It's the song from Final Fantasy 3 that plays in the Town of Kazus th-cam.com/video/rofqdU89D84/w-d-xo.html

Could never quite beat Mother Brain. Stupid fire rings.
At some point you're probably gonna have to look at other M and I don't wanna scare you, but I don't think I've ever heard someone say something good about it
...stay tuned for my Halloween video.
To be fair to Metroid, it was the 80's. That totally could've been a dude (up until she sported the leotard for clearing under 3 hours)
