Today's vlog covers a discussion of permaculture sun sectors and how I'm pruning for more sun now that it's winter here in tropical Puerto Rico. Understanding the path the sun takes through the sky, also called the sun sector in permaculture design, really helps make both initial design decisions and maintenance decisions once you get your site established.
In the tropics, there is usually less change in sun angles and elevation during winter because of the low latitude of the tropical climates (compared to HUGE swings between winter and summer sun in the temperate climate closer to the poles), but there is still a change from summer to winter sun angles. Understanding that change can help time pruning events on your homestead or in your home garden (huerto casero). Once the sun starts to dip lower in the sky, I like to prune out a lot of the excess growth to open up more sunlight. This allows more sun for a winter crop in tropical climates.
Enjoy the quick vlog, and feel free to leave questions about sun sectors below. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for your videos. I am about to work in a tropical garden in Thailand for the first time and these insights are great! Cheers man
I Was waiting for you to upload.👍 like the content very informative
We are super busy here too. Sending you guys our best wishes of success! It looks beautiful!
Good luck. I really want to know, what is going to happen to those papaya trees that you topped? Or do you not know?
Why you stop uploading videos?
My place is in the city, south of the equator. 😅The sun is hot as heck in dry season, cloudy and wet in wet seasons. It's cramped, on right front yards, there's big guava tree that pruned at the bottom 3 mtr. It's difficult to plant fruiting veggie under the guava tree. How do we prune guava tree the right way? The left side front yard is too exposed to sun and heat from aspalt road, no tree planted there. How do we protect the veggies with so much exposure? I miss planting veggies in my childhood, the weather is perfect for gardening. Hope you have more success in this year also..
Where are you from?? of you don't mind telling me😅
@@arijitpal166 Hi! I am Indonesian. Gardening in lowland tropics is not easy. Highland tropics is much easier.
@@terachuu4077 I am from Kolkata ,West Bengal ,India gardening is not easy for me as well😅😅...your situation is a lot similar with my situation..we both can share our gardening experiences and plant choices,so we both can learn from our experiences😊😊😊
