Chipotle worker here! Management has recently gotten so strict on portion sizes😭 it’s even harder when customers don’t understand how it’s not our fault… so thank you for recognizing that!
I believe you! I also work food service and in general, if a customer goes somewhere and gets a smaller portion from one worker and a larger portion from another, 99.9%of the time the smaller portion is what they're SUPPOSED to give you. The larger portion, you got hooked tf up.

Worker from chipotle here! When you come in to get chipotle workers actually over portion your food most of the time to skip the part where the customer asks for more. This allows us to get customers in and out. Online orders are made with the real portions the chipotle training wants us to use!!
They really need portioned scoops like 1cup,1/2cup, and 1/4 cup it would clear up any confusion and make it so much easier on the workers. No over the top scoops just flat out even portioning and it would also help the managers who order the food supplies. If other fast food can do it so can chipotle.

I love how we started this Shane adventure more than 10 years ago with just him and his alter egos and now he has his brother, sister in law, his babies, his husband, his husband's bestie, and two besties / coworkers/ friends Spencer and Chris all along for these crazy shenanigans. Don't get me wrong I didn't mind the Jeffree stage but this wholesome family and close friend circle is everything. Ex chipotle employee here! I remember being taught the portion sizes of every food item and if u did go according to the specific portion sizes it is a very small meal. (I’m talking a 4oz scoop of rice which doesn’t even cover the bottom of the bowl, and when have u ever seen the rice NOT cover the bottom of the bowl at least??) But when a customer is in front of you and they ask for more u always give more, so naturally u start giving out bigger than standard portion sizes to stop hearing “can I have more can I have more” to everything. Managers are always up ur butt about portion sizes so for the online orders u can make smaller bowls/burritos to make up for how much extra ur using (or wasting) on the in person orders. That’s at least how I saw it.
So I don’t understand why you aren’t charging extra for more when the customer asks for more? Every restaurant charges extra for extra food so why doesn’t chipotle?
@@blueberymufn11 what she's doing is intermittent fasting which has a ton of health benefits. Only giving yourself a 2-3 hour time window to eat is great, so like 18 hours fasting and only 6 to eat. People have lost tons of weight this way. And the one meal a day thing is becoming pretty normal these days, I follow a ton of tik tokers that have lost hundreds of lbs just eating once a day after fasting for 20 hours or so. Doesn't work for everyones life and schedule but if you can stick to it theres lots of benefits.

I’ve been working for chipotle for 3 years and honestly when I work on the front line, customers get really upset when we give them the real portion sizes or rice and meat which is only supposed to be 4oz. So, yes, we give them more otherwise they will complain and because we have to please the customers. Online order though, we can give them the actual portion size without being pressured to give them double scoop of rice, extra cheese, and more than the meat portion that we are TRAINED to be serving. Chipotle is supposed to be a healthy restaurant but people want their bowls to be spilling off the sides and for burritos to be impossible to be wrapped before they pay $11.
I live in England and honestly would be shocked to receive that amount of food. I wouldn’t even be able to eat half that amount and I’d feel bad wasting it. I’d be more than happy with the standard amount. We generally don’t get huge portions here.

it’s actually really nice that chipotle has 2 separate lines. otherwise people would be complaining their orders aren’t ready and it wouldn’t be so chaotic doing online and in person orders. so it does make sense. it’s hard to understand how a restaurant works without even working there.
as a former chipotle worker , they trained me to scoop a big scoop infront of the customer but knock more than half of that scoop off but do it really fast so the customer doesn’t notice lol. and as of onlines , yes. absolutely they skimp u on purpose bc the customer isn’t watching you do it. there’s a separate area for onlines which they call the “expo” line. i was ordered to give less food on expo and if i didn’t it would “come out of my check” knowing that not how it works lol so i always hooked pekole up regardless
Ex chipotle person here. We are supposed to give the same portions for everyone. But those portions are usually way smaller than what people expect. But the employees who are the strongest in terms of portioning and speed will always go to the second line because management can't hover and they are usually alone. Also the second line is just for throughput. If we made all the orders on one line it would have been chaos.
We also water down our Queso. As a former employee, the portioning is true for the most part. We are told by management to give less with online orders so we can move quicker and focus on inside orders. However, the customers can also ask for extra stuff, whereas with online orders no one is there to ask for anything extra.
This is what I was thinking, I used to work there too and it’s not that we would do less than the portion amount for online orders, it’s just in person we’d get yelled at by customers to add more and not expect to be charged so we just inherently started beefing up line orders lol

I’m a nursing student and IN my recent Medsurg book it says to AVOID eating at places “like Chipotle” *they dropped that name specifically* because it’s one of the leading causes of GI upset/disturbances/ food poisoning Just throwing that out there for everyone 😳
As someone who works in fast food, my theory is when you put your menu online usually whoever you’re ordering from (just eat, Uber eat etc.) charge 30% from the money you make so my theory is they give you 30% less food. Where I work we just put our prices up 30%.
Hey Shane, I used to work at Chipotle and I can also confirm with online orders we have to use the portions we’re supposed to or less. It depends how much stuff they get. The reasoning is bc they don’t see us making their food how the people inside do , so they wouldn’t be able to say they want more of something. I asked management why and they said it will help us not run out so quick and be able to finish the orders faster instead of worrying about struggling to close the bowl or roll the burritos how we do in the line (with the in person customers)

it’s actually really nice that chipotle has 2 separate lines. otherwise people would be complaining their orders aren’t ready and it wouldn’t be so chaotic doing online and in person orders. so it does make sense. it’s hard to understand how a restaurant works without even working there.
as a former chipotle worker , they trained me to scoop a big scoop infront of the customer but knock more than half of that scoop off but do it really fast so the customer doesn’t notice lol. and as of onlines , yes. absolutely they skimp u on purpose bc the customer isn’t watching you do it. there’s a separate area for onlines which they call the “expo” line. i was ordered to give less food on expo and if i didn’t it would “come out of my check” knowing that not how it works lol so i always hooked pekole up regardless
Ex chipotle person here. We are supposed to give the same portions for everyone. But those portions are usually way smaller than what people expect. But the employees who are the strongest in terms of portioning and speed will always go to the second line because management can't hover and they are usually alone. Also the second line is just for throughput. If we made all the orders on one line it would have been chaos.

We also water down our Queso. As a former employee, the portioning is true for the most part. We are told by management to give less with online orders so we can move quicker and focus on inside orders. However, the customers can also ask for extra stuff, whereas with online orders no one is there to ask for anything extra.
This is what I was thinking, I used to work there too and it’s not that we would do less than the portion amount for online orders, it’s just in person we’d get yelled at by customers to add more and not expect to be charged so we just inherently started beefing up line orders lol

As someone who works in fast food, my theory is when you put your menu online usually whoever you’re ordering from (just eat, Uber eat etc.) charge 30% from the money you make so my theory is they give you 30% less food. Where I work we just put our prices up 30%.
Hey Shane, I used to work at Chipotle and I can also confirm with online orders we have to use the portions we’re supposed to or less. It depends how much stuff they get. The reasoning is bc they don’t see us making their food how the people inside do , so they wouldn’t be able to say they want more of something. I asked management why and they said it will help us not run out so quick and be able to finish the orders faster instead of worrying about struggling to close the bowl or roll the burritos how we do in the line (with the in person customers)
