    Klemperer was wonderful in the music of so many different Composers. Great Orchestra. I heard him conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1962 at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. His program was Bach Brandenburg Concerto #1, Mozart Symphony #41 and Beethoven Symphony #7. Great Concert.

    How many of you know that OK was in the balcony of Studio 8H on July 19, 1942, sitting next to Samuel Barber, listening to Toscanini conduct the Shostakovich 7th? Life magazine took a picture of them together.

      It was as outtake published by Google Life images roughly ten years ago -- I don't know if it is still up, but go to Google images for Life magazine under the heading Shostakovich Symphony. It might still be there.

      Yair Gill Because it is simply a gorgeous classic symphony written by a musical genius in days when musicality was so refined and intense and emotionally charged.....that is why .

    Having listened to all the obvious masters, I like this recording. Reminds me of Don Giovanni overture;
    never underestimate Klemperer.

    Quando si parla di direttori come Klemperer, Furtwangler... non bisogna sempre per forza dire che ogni esecuzione sia un capolavoro. Questo è un buon Mozart certo vista l'epoca in cui fu registrato, ma con troppo suono. Esecuzioni di Maag o Bruggen rimangono esemplari in ogni senso.

      ....I remember him already being in bad health however in full control of that huge orchestra. They were all very much aware to depend on this masterminded musician.
      RIP Meastro Klemperer

    Majestätische und zugleich saubere Interpretation dieser fein komponierten Sinfonie mit perfekt kontrollierten Töne aller Instrumene. Der geniale Dirigent leitet das ganze Orchester im relativ schnellen Tempo mit klarer Dynamik. Wunderbar!

    Un (raro) esempio di come possa essere considerato "grande" Otto Klemperer. Se la mattina si svegliava di buon umore e prendeva un buon caffè, riusciva ad interpretare bene persino Mozart. Ma c'erano quelle due (rare) condizioni che dovevano verificarsi.

    Klemperer draws a sound which is jolly fine to my untrained ear. Thanks for posting Incontrario. Wonder which is your favourite interpretation?

      nofactzone I really like this first Klemperer recording. I also like very much the Harnoncourt recording with Amsterdam, even though it is somehow authoritative.

      Reassured by yours on Harnoncourt. Curious at the negative comments. Horses for courses; I loved it. Hearing Sir Roger Norrington's version on the radio drove me to TH-cam. Choice can cause amateurs some confusion! Finding the individual 'fit' is key imo.

    Riguardo all'"ordine" che mostra l'orchestra, al suono, all'agogica, ecc., sarà un caso ma proprio in quegli anni la Philharmonia era stata sotto la guida di un certo Herbert von Karajan, quindi non deve stupire l'ORO che d'un tratto Klemperer si è trovato per le mani.

    Klemperer had a habit of conducting everything as though it were Beethoven. This interpretation (especially in the opening section) is a bit too creepy, as though we were moldering with Florestan in his cell. I miss the ebullience, the exuberance. And yet it's also distinctive and very clean. I've always had the highest respect for Klemperer.

    • @alger3041
      @alger3041 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's a big-boned reading, it is true; but quite unlike many recordings Klemperer made later on, this one is not slow and ponderous, but does really move as it should. The tempos, at least to me, seem totally appropriate.
      And I would much sooner listen to this than to the recent readings by the likes of Harnoncourt, Marriner, and others of that ilk. This reading for me pretty much gives me that I for one seek in this work. I hear this work as fully equal to the
      last three that Mozart composed in this form.

      @antonioverbenas2041 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +GoldinDr I completely agree with your comment. It really sounds like Beethoven, or even Brahms, and the sparkling side of Mozart is somehow missed. But it is undoubtly a great performance, a real monument of romantic approach to the score. In front of the orchestra there is first order musical mind. An excelent choice for the work is Böhm's, with its golden sound, humanity and deep understanding of the score.

    I don't like how Klemperer interpreted Beethoven, it's too dry and ceremonial, you need to evoke the thrill, the conflict in the music. But this reading of Mozart is very interesting, there are more repeats or monotony in development, so this style works well. The same applies to Karl Bohm, his Beethoven is too slow, but it works for Mozart's music.

    Played and conducted with incomparable power and clarity. Too often Mozart is played in a lightweight and staccato way, like a perfect 18th century dummy.

    la trovo troppo lenta...diretto così Mozart perde di espressività...viene meno la sua effervescenza, la sua briosa, ma mai banale, forza...ed inoltre non acquista nemmeno molto in drammaticità, ma anzi mi sembra senza nerbo, fiacca e addirittura noiosa...

    フィルハルモニアの演奏能力は凄いが、クレンペラーのリズム感が、ベートーベンやバッハと異なり、モーツアルトにイマイチ相応しくない。「蝶のように舞い、蜂のように刺す」分けにはいかないようだ。
