I'm glad Lionel made a battery-powered O gauge set! As it can run on the same track as Lionel's electric trains making it a good starting point for a kid getting into model trains! The Ready-To-Play stuff was not the same gauge as G scale so expansion is somewhat limited with those. This set also and having switches and a cross piece means you can build a variety of layouts from just this one set, which is something not many train sets can do these days. And to top it all off, it's only $75 making it something more affordable for children and their families. But a weird thing about this set is the cheap-looking accessories, which are the same ones you might find in no-name battery-powered train sets. Another is the voices are from the CGI Thomas and the Engine Roll Call has never played in All Engines Go.
Totally agree with the video here. It's nice to bring youngsters into the hobby for a cheaper price, and for the amount of track (Plastic, yes) and some simple accessories. It's almost like the most "train-like" AEG Toy/model out there. The traditional O Thomas line wasn't the easiest to get a hold of in all honesty. Perhaps the pricepoint for an electric train, or the American look on half the cars. Gotta say though, your couplers look a little droopy. Perhaps there's a little too much sagging on the shank, where it should be more rigid and not lift out of a couple. I feel Lionel's new step in "O Gauge Ready-To-Play" brings a few elements to the hobby for cheaper, and in the case of the modern take from Mattel, Thomas looks just like in the show. Sounds, smoke, and faceplates (all of which raise more questions) done in a full battery powered engine of this size. Nevertheless, it's impressive. Too bad we didn't get a fresh tooled up CG/Model Thomas like this prior.
I had no idea the Lionel brand even had plastic track. I'm a bit mixed because AEG has a young age target, but I see that age bracket having trouble with derailment. I'm not sure the middle ground works, I'd personally stick to Trackmaster/Plarail style track for a child gift.
I think the Trackmaster style would be less finicky and frustrating. There is no room for error. If you don’t throw the point it the right way it will derail whereas on normal o scale and Trackmaster - the train would just push through it
This model was a huge surprise I never expected to see! This is one of Lionels better models imo. It's rather disappointing that Annie and Clarabel are exactly the same though, they don't have names on the side in the show so that's understandable but I wish they had different faces at least
It doesn’t have the all engines go theme song and the all engines go voice it really sounds like Joseph May with the Thomas and friends theme song from the hit era/CGI era
This is kind of a nightmare, because I really don't like the new 2D animated Thomas and Friends. The old and original Thomas is better. I kind of can't believe that Lionel came up with the new 2D Thomas the tank Engine, however I really hope Lionel still makes the old original Thomas the tank Engine. So that way the old fans of Thomas can still get Thomas in his classic original design
How dare they have the classic music on this abomination, like some characters in the AEG are fine but they should not play the good music with this reboot
@@FreddyFazboy399 it would be hard to animate the rods as well. Plus Thomas has been a kid's show ever since it was literally born. But he's now a baby show. Get Over It.
@@MaxwellTheTrainFantrue! It's not like we are finna die tomorrow or later, Just appreciate the merch that looks so accurate and good Rather than the other CGI merchandisings or the old ones looking weird and creepy.
Great video as always but im not going to lie, that new thomas model looks awful! 😂 It looks like an old thomas model was caught in a fire and this is the remains! 😂 Great video though! 🤠
Lionel’s so lazy with their Thomas stuff that they didn’t even bother getting AEG voice lines and the AEG theme song on it, they just used the CGI voice lines they already had and the old theme song.
it's finicky because from your footage it seems like heavy-duty plastic instead of a healthy mix of light intricately moulded plastic and cast metal. not the best quality. the track looks even worse quality IMO. the saving grace is the amount of track and its got real puffing smoke
Annie has orange eyes and Clarabel has the grey eyes
Even though i dislike AEG, it's merch is really good and looks wonderful.
Cuz it’s cheap (no offence to anyone who likes AEG merch btw).
The cat behind Thomas is like what is this little thing 😂😂

I literally might buy this solely for the engine roll call music. It sounds really powerful here
Charlie's awesome. I love seeing him in your videos.
Thank you. He always seems very interested in the trains
I showed my puppy a few N scale trains back in March. I gotta see how he feels about them now.
Well it is odd the fact he has normal voice lines nice
Train star tested , Charlie approved.

The break van would look nice with the Hornby Santa train.
Ngl the puffing smoke was a good feature
You got All engines go nice I was thinking get all engines go Thomas train set for Christmas
That’s how they looked last time I watched a episode of AEG, Sad but it’s how it is now.

A break van is like a caboose
Looks like a lot of track for that set.
It is! But it’s cheap plastic track that’s not that great
British railways used 20 ton break vans example I think is the break van you opened up 0:39

@@TrainTsarFun no problemo :D aww thanks I always really like sharing my opinions as it's nice to have a discussion about stuff like this

Actually, it’s really Joseph May

My sons literally broke a couple days after Christmas
How does the smoke work?
It heats up the water and turns it to steam. Tiny heating element

Is the yellow thing the whistle?
I’m not sure

I am always partial to the original tv series models
The old Lionel version looked ugly anyway.
I mean at least it’s a train I guess
Why is clarabel backwards?
Because it don’t really matter I guess
So this is the new era of Thomas? Mattel must be trying to destroy the franchise. There can be no other explanation.
Is Mattel the ones behind the creative design of AEG? Or is it Hit? Because this model is made by Lionel
@@TrainTsarFun HiT is dead, which means it can only be Mattel.
