Hello Dennis - From your video we notice that you have not placed the small flat washer on top of the grounds spindle, it sits under the main inner burr. This would result in a coarser grind size and will most definitely be the cause. This washer would have definitely been included however can be easily misplaced during the cleaning process, please ensure to check this!
Should both thin washers be stacked together under the inner burr and above the spindle? Or one under the spindle and the other above the spindle (sandwiching the spindle)?
Same issue here. If you read through the comments on the alternative brewing channel there are some people talking about the stacked washer under the bottom burr and there seems to be some inconsistencies between some of the units. My unit was missing the spring washer and skates to slightly coarser setting when grinding. You should contact Varia customer support. They have responded and are sending me a replacement unit. They also said to look out for an assembly diagram on their website soon.
@@stephensmirke2146 Hello Stephen. The spring washer is in fact not missing from the assembly however it is an updated model that does not require this. In addition, we sent a replacement to you however the issue of the moving hopper is in fact due to a lack of grease on the threads on the hopper. In addition, there should be 1 x small thin washer under the grounds spindle and another on top of the grounds spindle but underneath the inner burr.
A few things I noticed. Thats not a varia vs3 version 2. Burrs on version 2 are not like that. On version 2 the spacer washer goes under the inner burr to make it closer to outer burr. Not sure if these were issues with version 1. The washer possibly is assembly error.
Flat washer should be under the centre burr, that will raise the burr to meet the fixed burr. But I would not really recommended setting to Zero as you are risking metal to metal on the burr set. Hope that helps👍😊

Have the same issue with the last version. Can’t get enough thinner for espresso. The manual says you don’t have to go under setting 1.
