    do you regret picking the career you picked? i'm very interested in neuroscience as a senior in highschool and i want to go into neuropsychology!! your videos are very helpful and i'd like to know if you regret going into this field or feel as if there is any downsides ?

      I don't regret my decision at all! It's a great field, but it aligns with my passions and interests. I would say some downsides is the length of education, cost of schooling, and determination to get through the finish line and hard work during grad school. But I believe the benefits of working as a psychologist/neuropsychologist outweigh the cons, especially if you enjoy working with people and investing in emotional and mental health.

    Hi! For those pursuing masters first, does the masters program have to be in neuropsychology before doing the PhD or PsyD in neuropsychology? Is there a restriction on the types of masters programs one can do or it is okay as long as it is in a psychology related field? Thank you🙏

      Great question. In the U.S. it really doesn't matter what type of masters. To be a neuropsychologist and practice independently in the U.S. you need a doctorate anyways. Many students will either get a masters in psychology, neuroscience, counseling, or clinical psychology before pursuing a Phd/PsyD. It matters more so what your future goals are when you become a neuropsychologist, so working backwards will help to decide on the specific masters. Reach out on my website philsarpong.com if you have more questions. best of luck!

    I've learned that the main role of a neuropsychologist is to investigate neurological disorders and give a diagnosis. However, I never read about how a neuropsychologist actually treats. Do they provide any therapy or do they just do the diagnosis and then refer them off to another professional for therapy?

      Yeah great question. Most neuropsychologists will just investigate a neurological disorder and give a diagnosis. Most won’t provide therapy and just refer to another clinician. But there are some that may split their time with therapy and assessment, it just depends what they want out of their career.

    What should i look into if i want to find a job the includes cognition and mental illness? Like how your brain reacts when you have a mental illness. Would that be neuropsychology or something else?

      Neuropsychology will certainly look into how your brain reacts when you have a mental illness. It also depends if you're more interested in the research/teaching side or the clinical treatment side? A neuroscientist may also study how the brain reacts with mental illness, they may do research and teach at doctoral level programs. A neuropsychologist will mainly diagnose the mental illness that is affecting the brain and provide clinical treatment options to the patient. So depending on which one you are more interested in could give you the best options for your career. I hope that helps!

    Hello. Can you suggest schools for PsyD in Clinical Neuropsychology. It's really difficult to find schools that offer PsyD programs.
    Also what is it you are doing ?

    • @philsguidetopsyd
      @philsguidetopsyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on your location and cost. You may have to ask teachers or professors or even neuropsychologists in your area to give you some recommendations on what schools to apply to. I’m in a clinical psychology program that is a Psyd program and offers different tracks for child and family or neuropsychology

    Can psychiatrists do research and teach as professors on the side?

    Can you explain the difference btn psychiatrist and neuropsychiatrist? Thank you!

    • @philsguidetopsyd
      @philsguidetopsyd  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! A neuropsychiatrist is a psychiatrist who has undergone additional training and specialization in the field of neuropsychiatry. Neuropsychiatry is a subspecialty that focuses on the interface between psychiatry and neurology, particularly the relationship between brain function and behavior. Neuropsychiatrists evaluate and treat individuals with mental health disorders that are associated with neurological conditions or brain injuries, such as traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Psychiatrists typically focus on more general mental health problems.

      Neuropsychology , neuro psychiatrist both are same are there is any differences in that

    • @philsguidetopsyd
      @philsguidetopsyd  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Neuropsychologists are trained psychologists and go to phd/psyd school to become a psychologist first, then specialize in neuropsychology. neuro psychiatry are medical doctors, going to medical school, then psychiatry residency for at least 4 years.

    What about md-phd programs

    • @philsguidetopsyd
      @philsguidetopsyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great thought! Most md-phd programs are for those who want to become medical doctors but have research and teaching roles in university and graduate/medical schools
