This makes an old man really sad. Willie was my favorite player of all-time. Growing up in the 60s baseball was all we had and collecting baseball cards (5 cents a pack with 5 cards and a hard stick of gum) was how we'd while away the summer days. Rest in peace, Say Hey Kid!
Your thumbnail and one of the pics of the the man in the fielding position with the New York Giants road jersey is of Monte Irvin not Willie Mays just a FYI
Willie Mays was and always has been baseball to me. I was born in 1947, in San Francisco, California, and raised in San Jose. The South Bay. At the age of 10 I began listening to the SF Giants on my crystal radio. The technology of the day for a kid interested in electronics. To me the Giants was Willie Mays. I remember imagining his home runs and amazing left field catches. He defined baseball for me. A definition that has never changed for me. As time marched on baseball became a business as it has for all other professional sports. It sadly lost its Willie Mays luster. Willie Mays will be missed in so very many ways. Goodbye Willie we loved you then, and love your memory now..
RIP to the greatest. No one ever did it better
